Looking for Silver Chains

Hello Montreal

I am looking for some reasonably priced silver chains

If any one can direct me to a jeweler, or jeweler supplier, or a jewelry store that is accessible by metro - I would greatly appreciate it.

cheap beer

a friend of mine is here from Calgary and wants to know where to find "shitty bars with cheap beer"

he's here tonight, monday night and tuesday night, so any places you know of that have cheaper nights for any of those three would be great, or anywhere cheap in general.

location wise, downtown or around Saint Laurent would be most convenient.

thanks so much!

Looking for space to book

Hello Beautiful Montreal,

I've taken it upon myself to organize a pumpkin carving social event for the organization I volunteer for in the month of October. It is to host 10-15 adults for a period of 2-3 hours. There will be quiet music, some finger food/snacks and potentially some booze. Since this is a volunteer-run organization with a limited budget I'm looking for something cheap/free. I'm hoping to have it on Thursday October 29th (pretty much anytime after work hours) but the date isn't set in stone yet.

I'm open to all suggestion: shared space, renting out the hall room in someone's apartment building, a cafe/bar/restaurant, someone's studio or loft space... etc would be great.

Please help!!!!!

About the Organization:
CAEO (The Canadian Association for Education and Outreach) is a volunteer-run organization that works to minimize the stigma associated with sexual minority groups through education and outreach initiatives. We operate a help line and hold interactive educational workshops in schools and other educational institutions.

Wine glasses, bar glasses, etc

Hey everyone!

I have to buy about 40 wine glasses for something I'm running and I need them to be cheap. My boss wants me to get wine glasses that maybe could also be used for regular bartending or something like that...
They can be plastic, although not like those disposable ones you can buy at most stores. The person who needs them said that they specifically don't want them from the dollar store, and since I need so many, places like Winners is out of the question as well. Also, I'm not allowed to buy anything for work from Wal-Mart (it's in the constitution of my work), so I can't go there either.
Anyone know where I could go to buy some, maybe that sells to restaurants/hotels but is also open to the public? I need to pick them up by early Thursday afternoon so ordering them from somewhere else is out of the question as well.

Thanks in advance for the help!

hello,

so i am looking for highly resistant plastic bags, and a lot of them, for really cheap. so i thought about exploring dumpsters of companies that deal with shipping/receiving. they sometimes use the kind of bag i am looking for...

so it would really help me if someone here knew of a place where it would be likely for me to find some. i've explored dumpsters close to where i live (guy/william) and haven't found what i was looking for.

maybe someone here works for that kind of company, or knows in what area i should look for it?
anyways, thanks for any help you could offer in my mission. :)

Summer WILL be here eventually, and I'm going to need some t-shirts.  Do you guys have some suggestions as to where to buy cheap t-shirts for skinny folks?  The regular "bargain-style" stores like Winners sell for around 15$ usually, but I was wondering if anyone knows of any alternatives.  Any style from plain, solid colours to retro and weird designs will do.  Just looking for stuff that fits.

places to stay?

Hi all,

I'll be in Montreal this Friday and Saturday, and I'm looking for a place to stay that won't be too expensive. I'll be in the Pointe-Claire area, and getting around using whatever public transportation there is (metro, bus, taxi). Can anyone recommend a hostel, a hotel, or even a B&B? Preferably something under 100$ a night?

glasses prescriptions at Costco

Has anyone ever filled a prescription for eyewear at Costco? More specifically at the Costco on the West Island?  If so, is it really much cheaper than most other places?  I saw some signs that said prices start at 30$ for basic and 90$ for progressive, but I have a very strong and complicated prescription that will probably not fall within that range.  How long will I have to wait for them to have my glasses ready? Before I go and spend money there, I'd like to make sure that they will do a good job.  Any insight would be much appreciated.

Get your Vitamin C on!

I don't know if advertising per say is permitted but I just wanted to share the info. Given the fact that I am not employed with Provigo near Parc and Sherbrooke and I have no affiliation with Oasis juices, there's no way I could be seen as trying to push the 100% (not from concentrate) orange juice on you for $1.44 in the 1.75 litre format with ulterior motives.
Or could I? Don't know when the sale ends but I tell you, it feels like summer trickling down your throat.

CHEAP catering in MTL

Hello!

I’m looking for a CHEAP, but decent caterer in Montréal. This is for an all day event. We would probably be about 30 - 40 people. I’d like to have

Breakfast + coffee (enough to have a little food left over for the break)
Lunch (I was thinking maybe sandwiches, salad and veggies and dip)
Desert
Drinks

I was thinking of maybe asking the cooking school but thought I’d post here in case anyone had recommendations

Juste Pour Rire

Bonjour, you lovely bi-linguists!
This summer I was hoping to come to Montreal for the Just For Laughs festival before I go off to university. The only problem is, I'm a Brit, so most of my meagre savings would have to go on plane tickets.
On the JFL website they mentioned volunteering, but I can't find any other information about it - has anyone here tried it? Do you have to be Canadian? Anyone know if you actually get to see any of the shows? Or (be still my beating heart) they provide any accommodation?
Sorry if I'm bombarding you with questions - just I've wanted to do this for years : )
Equally, if you have any advice on staying/eating cheaply in Montreal that would be fantastic.
Thanks for any help!

Quiet on a Saturday night.

Although I doubt this particular question has been posted before, things do change. We've had to change places twice in the past year.

We're a group that meets monthly and we are desperate for a new, quiet hang out spot on Saturday nights. We started at Brutopia, moved to McLean's but the jocks chased us back to Brutopia. Now we're finding it a bit loud for what we need.

What we DO need?
Downtown, easy to access by metro.
Cheap and/or good beer.
No loud music, we want to hear eachother.
No loud people watching sports.
Food is a bonus.

I'm thinking somewhere along Bishop perhaps? I'd appreciate suggestions!

Free / VERY cheap activities and places (secret places)

Hello Everyone!
I'm trying to find some free or very cheap activities or places around Montreal. Do you know of a free open access area where one can sit and enjoy the city? What about a place that has cheap coffee/tea, and a decent environment for a talk with a friend (or free refills?) Do you know of any secret places to relax and read?

Preferences are downtown and Mile End/the plateau area, but anything will be considered! (If only it weren't so cold outside!)

Thank you very much.

Free eye exam? / Examen de la vue gratuit?

Hi! I desperately need an eye exam but I don't know where to turn because I'm on a very tight budget and every place I called charged at least 30$. I swear I've heard/seen ads for free eye exams in the past but I can't remember what company it was and I have no clue if they're still doing it. Any recommendations where I should be going for a free or cheap cost exam?

Thanks!

-----------------

Bonjour!

Merci!

Wedding accessories.

In Montreal, I'm looking for cheap, nice looking wedding bands (his and hers). It's for a photo shoot so we're not looking to pay a ton (around 50?ish) but still want something that looks decent. Also looking for somewhere to buy inexpensive flowers (his and hers) to pin onto a suit and for holding. And potentially a veil. If possible.

Any suggestions?

(I suppose I could goto Value Village but it's quite a long ride out there and if I can avoid that, I'd like to.)

Alternative spots to see Int'l Fireworks Fest

I've seen the fireworks from the bridge before but what other spots are well-positioned for this (aside from actually being at La Ronde).

I've heard of bar terraces overlooking the river and Saint Helen's Island that make good spots -- where do I find them?

Also, I think someone here mentioned seeing the fireworks from the Olympic Stadium tower.

However, ideally, I'd like a place where I can simply relax, have a few, and easily see the light show.

Hooray for summer!

CHEAP hotels

the cheapest hotel i can find online is econolodge at $80 a night. anything cheaper? i don't care if it's a hotel or a B&B or what, just somewhere to sleep for a couple of nights. preferably downtown-ish so i'm not hauling luggage all over town on the metro again.

last time i was in montreal i stayed at the royal auberge near radisson metro, which i highly recommend if you don't mind the metro ride. it's very clean with spacious rooms and free wifi, and there are restaurants, a metro, loblaws, zellers, etc right in front of the building. $105 with taxes.

on a random note, how unpleasant is dragging luggage between bonaventure metro and the train? i think they did that on purpose.

all the tagged hotels/accomodations entries were not looking for cheaper places, alas... thanks for any suggestions!

Does anyone know where I can get a (preferably used) dressmaker's dummy/model/form? (Image taken from here because it was the best example I could find!) The ideal would be just a plain one (it doesn't even have to be clean or in perfect condition, haha) with one of those knobs at the top and a wooden stand, but I could go either way.

Also, does anyone have a sewing machine that they would be willing to part with at a reasonable price? My mom and I used to share one but she "borrowed" it for her boyfriend's house and I don't think I'm going to get it back, and with summer approaching, I really feel like practicing my sewing again.

Lastly, any suggestions for places that sell fabric, patterns and the like? I know a couple, but I could always go for some new spots to check out.

Computer stores

Hello Montrealers,

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a store that sells very cheap computer parts.  I know there's a whole bunch of discount/bargain stores in Montreal where you can get computer parts from 2/3 years ago for very cheap.  Which ones would you recommend?

I normally order online (tigerdirect.ca, ncix.com, and even futureshop.ca) when I buy parts, but, for example, where would I go if I want a 10 gig hard drive that just works, for no more than $30?  Or an old video card?

Thanks!
