Looking for space to book

Hello Beautiful Montreal,

I've taken it upon myself to organize a pumpkin carving social event for the organization I volunteer for in the month of October. It is to host 10-15 adults for a period of 2-3 hours. There will be quiet music, some finger food/snacks and potentially some booze. Since this is a volunteer-run organization with a limited budget I'm looking for something cheap/free. I'm hoping to have it on Thursday October 29th (pretty much anytime after work hours) but the date isn't set in stone yet.

I'm open to all suggestion: shared space, renting out the hall room in someone's apartment building, a cafe/bar/restaurant, someone's studio or loft space... etc would be great.

Please help!!!!!

About the Organization:
CAEO (The Canadian Association for Education and Outreach) is a volunteer-run organization that works to minimize the stigma associated with sexual minority groups through education and outreach initiatives. We operate a help line and hold interactive educational workshops in schools and other educational institutions.

Charities that collect beer bottles?

I've heard of charities that go door to door, collecting beer bottles, cans, etc. I have a ridiculous amount of beer bottles that I want to get rid of, but I would prefer to give them to a charitable institution. Does anyone have any info on charities that I can call to collect them? Thanks so much!

If anyone's interested.. here's the craigslist posting .. http://montreal.en.craigslist.ca/zip/928507423.html

V-Day McGill's Annual Benefit Concert - Calling all bands and musicians!

V-Day McGill is looking for musical performers to take part in a benefit concert at Le Cagibi on September 25 at 7pm.

All proceeds from the concert will go to carefully selected Montreal charities aiming to end gender-based violence.

If you are interested, please e-mail us back by September 17 and we will get a schedule a week after the application deadline.

This is a great opportunity to get exposure to the McGill crowd as well as others from the Montreal community.

There will be opportunities to advertise upcoming shows and the possibility to sell merchandise at the event.

Royal Canadian Legions & charity events

Hi folks,

Some friends and I are kicking around the idea of hosting a charity ball for the Royal Canadian Legion, and we're looking for a Legion hall that's large enough to hold such an event. I've already a list of halls in Montreal, but not much information as to how large they are, whether they have bars, etcetera. Can anyone recommend one that's large enough to hold 100-150 people, is equipped with a bar, and preferably has wood floors and a stage?

Old Desktop Computer to give to a Charity

I have an old desktop computer which I need to get rid of. Before I bring it to the recycling centre here...

Are there any charities in Montreal that collect/use/somehow profit from old computers?

It's four years old but was a good computer in it's day (it was made by a friend from various name brand parts). It works okay for day-to-day use (nothing too resource intensive though) and actually had extra RAM installed a year ago and a DVD-RW drive installed one year ago. It should probably be wiped clean by said charity.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated! We'd like to get rid of it by Friday - if not, it's going to the computer recycling drop-off then. Thanks!

Another moving related post

Hi all,

I searched through the archives and didn't find any (current) info on this - let me know if I missed something!

I'm leaving in a week and have accumulated a large amt of clothes, etc - most of them are perfectly nice, just don't fit anymore or whatever. I was planning to take them down to the salvation army or some place like that - I was wondering where the closest Salvation army/thrift store place to McGill is (I live in the ghetto area), or whether there's a drop box or something near McGill. Also, do you guys have any recommendations about what to do with old clothes/books/etc?

Thanks!
Noelle

Where to donate clothes in Montreal

Hi All,

My wife and I just did a bit of a closet cleaning and we've got a few pieces of clothes we'd like to donate to a good cause. Most of the clothes are hoodies and shirts, along with a jacket and a few pairs of jeans. All of the clothes are in really good shape and could provide someone with some much needed warmth this winter.

Back in BC I would usually just call Big Brothers as they pick donations up from your doorstep if you leave them bagged up for them, but being new to Montreal I'm not sure if there is anything similar here. A charity that actually picks the clothes up would be nice, but I'm certainly willing to drop them off anywhere near a metro station as well.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

UPDATE: I also have a full-sized Couch and matching Chair I need to get rid of. Are there any services in Montreal that you can donate a couch and chair to that will pick them up?

Hundreds of Empty Glass Bottles

Hello.

I work in a warehouse district just outside of Mile-end in Outremont. There is no recycling pickup nearby and I am made to leave hundreds of glass bottles per month just laying in the street.

Does anyone know of any charities who will come and pick up very clean and neatly ordered glass bottles?

Hey, all. Are there any clothing drop-off boxes in the downtown area? I'd rather donate my old wardrobe than consign it.

Does anyone know of any not-for-profits in Montreal that give bursaries for kids to take music lessons, or have some kind of instrument library set up? Thanks so much for any info.

Donating a bed?

I have a mattress and boxspring that I would like to donate to charity, preferrably a shelter for women and children. Does anyone know of a charity that takes this type of donation and can pick it up?
Location is close to Parc Lafontaine, if that helps.

Thanks

Spring Cleaning!

Does anyone know of a place where I can sell my second hand clothing?
I keep seeing commercials on TV for it but it's only for the States.
I was wondering if we had a place like that of our own.

Or maybe a place I can donate my clothes to?
I know Village des Valeurs takes in donations but they re-sell the clothes and make 100% profit.
I mean an actual place that accepts donations and sends it to the poor.

Thanks in advance for the help!
