Auto body shop (carrosserie) recommendation

Hi!

I'm looking for a good auto body shop to get some work (minor rust in strange places) done on my car. I'm not looking for the cheap and dirty fix, but someone who does good work that will last.

West Island, Decarie area, or NDG areas are preferred.

Thanks!

New Car Prices

I'm thinking of buying a new car, but before I head out to a dealer I wanted to know whether prices were negotiable. Thanks for your help!

And if anyone has an opinion about the Toyota Yaris Hatchback or the Smart (or any other small car for that matter), please feel free to share.

Congratulations and if you had something for sale, where would you go??

First of all, to comm admins, Well Done last week!! I hope you survived the "onslaught" intact and still passionate about this community!!

Secondly, again to the comm admins: I can't seem to tag this message.... I am not even sure what tag I should use. I guess Miscellaneous?

Finally, to the Montreal Community at LARGE!! My mother is trying to sell a car... Is there anywhere anyone can think of that isn't Craig's List, Kijiji, Auto Hebdo or the McGill Classifieds sight?

Who knows what happened there?

Heya!

Does anyone know any details about an accident happened around 6pm on Sherbrooke and Papineau?
I didn't saw second car... so what i think is that guy just lose control of the car...

I didn't saw ambulance or firemen, so looks like everyone is alive.

Buying a used car

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a used car dealership in Montreal (or on the South Shore I guess) they've bought from and had a pleasant experience with? Is it really better to buy from a private owner than from say a Toyota dealership that sells used Toyotas?

I was wondering too, how to get a used car inspected by your own mechanic if you buy it from a dealership. Is it normal to do this? If so, do they let you take it off the lot to get it done?

Auto garages - suggestions?

I have a car that I want inspected for safety to travel long distances. Does anyone have a garage they trust and recommend?

I think I may get a CAA membership for roadside assistance, but their inspection centres charge $128 - $170.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Anyone know a place for a cheap, quick (ie no waiting usually) oil change in montreal, preferably west of downtown?

Regie for auto-garages?

Can anyone tell me what government body in Quebec oversees car mechanics and garages?
I intend to file a complaint about one of them, which failed to give me an estimate for the repairs, and forced to pay only when the work had been done, threatening to "undo" everything in case I don't pay. I'm pretty sure it's totally illegal (I mean, they have to tell you how much it's going to cost BEFORE, not AFTER) - and I told them that, but the guy said "I run this shop for 29 years, no one complained before"... So I think he needs a precedent, and I'll be happy to give him one.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Car Vacuum?

I'm looking for one of those gas stations where you can go and vacuum your car.

The one I used to know (an ultramar on papineau) seems to have removed their vacuum *sigh*. I went by three self serve car washes today and strangely, none had vacuums.

I'm relatively certain there's some over by atwater market, but I'm looking more in the plateau/parc-ex villeray area.

My google-fu is normally pretty good but I am coming up loser on this one!

Alternately, anyone have recommendations for a *quality* high powered hand held I could purchase? This is getting annoying enough I might just go do that!

DIY car repair in Montreal?

Greetings,

I remember once picking up a business card for a Do-It-Yourself garage, where you can go and fix your car and the owner is around to give you some tips.

Unfortunately I've misplaced that business card, and was wondering whether someone knows which place I'm talking about.

Regards,

Driver wanted

Hello again, my business partner has an appointment in a hotel for a massage this Saturday at around 5.

Normally one of her friends drives her to these clients but their car is completely dead.

She cannot take public transportation as she has knee injury that prevents her from walking too long and the stairs in the metro would kill her.

So we are looking for someone serious, reliable and sane to take her from Taschereau boulevard in St-Hubert to the Chablis on Sherbrooke in Montreal.

She would either call you back after her appointment, or you would time it yourself and be back a the Chablis around the time her appointment would end, which would be about 3 hours later, so you would have time to go home and chill out then you would drive her back to our salon on Taschereau.

We would of course pay for gas as well as a supplementary fee for your time; for a total of 50$

The appointment will be dependent on the weather so in the even of rain the appointment may be canceled.

Email me at daakuryu(at)gmail(dot)com with your name and phone number and I will pass it along to my partner and she will call you if it does not rain and the appointment is confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there!
I was wondering if anyone could refer me to a company that would pick up a car for me, one that no longer works.
I live in ile-bizard so the company would have to come here to get it.
I just need it out of our driveway, its been here over a year :/
thanks for any advice!

(relatively) eco-friendly carwash?

I don't use my car much (many weeks, even months can go by), but it occurs to me I should get it washed more regularly (prevent salt corrosion etc.), esp. since it's old.

I've heard of carwashes (in California?) that use biodegradable soaps and natural waxes; anything like that here on the island?

I park on the street, no access to hoses, etc. so I can't do it myself as I would if I lived in the country.

Winter Driving in Montreal

From a non-driver to you drivers out there who habitually scare pedestrians by slding past them and into other stationary objects upon the sidewalk ...

Lesson #1 (especially for those without antilock brakes): If your front wheels are locked up tight, guess what? The lack of stopping power aside, you really cannot steer!

I know this is terribly counter-intuitive and requires a conscious effort, but you might just avoid those parked cars, that pedestrian, and that telephone pole, if you take your foot off the brake when trying to swerve away from your nemesis. At the very last, you stand a chance that you wouldn't otherwise have.

There are at least two people out my window who might learn something from this piece of advice. Thankfully, I wasn't (quite) in their way.

I really didn't make this up, you know.

Handicapped parking?

Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a temporary handicapped parking permit? And, if so, where would I get one? I sprained my ankle and I'm walking with a cane (doctor's orders). I really resent having to walk from the far end of parking lots, when there are empty spaces for handicapped parking. This sort of thing must happen all the time - that someone is temporarily handicapped.

selling my old scrappy car

Hello all,

I am about to get a new car, and I'd like to get a couple hundreds dollars from my old one. Any idea where to go? Within the city/close north or south shore? Let me explain:

It is a total mess.

It's a 15 years old car (corolla '92), it's damaged, a little rusty, and the front doors don't open from the inside. But, the battery is almost new, I have 4 new winter tires, 3 out of 4 new summer tires, and loads of bits were replaced -with new parts- in the past year. The seats, transmission, other doors' rods are good, so on and so forth... I've bought used parts in the past, so I know it is possible to sell them to a garage, scrap yard, something, and I know how much those parts are worth, but I have no idea where to go as a potential "seller."

Any idea?

Quelqu'un connaît une bonne "cour à scrap" ?
