benefit show space?

I wonder if anyone can help me with this...

Does anyone know of a small, intimate performance space where I could organize a benefit show on short notice? Preferably somewhere that wouldn't charge us more than a cut at the door.

A friend is coming to town and wanted to do a benefit show for the organization I work with. It would be for weekend after next, so it's pretty soon. I was thinking of approaching a cafe that does the occasional live show.. Somewhere with cool owners, who wouldn't mind packing their space with people on a Sunday or Monday evening.

Thanks in advance!

Royal Canadian Legions & charity events

Hi folks,

Some friends and I are kicking around the idea of hosting a charity ball for the Royal Canadian Legion, and we're looking for a Legion hall that's large enough to hold such an event. I've already a list of halls in Montreal, but not much information as to how large they are, whether they have bars, etcetera. Can anyone recommend one that's large enough to hold 100-150 people, is equipped with a bar, and preferably has wood floors and a stage?

Special edition of Coco Cafe on Sunday

Canada's longest-running spoken word night is back in 2008 after a short break. Returning from its hiatus a month early, this benefit is being held to raise awareness about the bone marrow registry and specifically target the African Caribbean community's need to get registered!

My brother has been diagnosed with leukemia and we have yet to find match. Moreover, I discovered that we are under-represented in the Bone Marrow Registry.

This month's theme: CONTRIBUTIONS

Suggested Donation: 10$

With host the ever dashing Jason ‘Steel’ Joseph

Scheduled to perform so far:

Jason “Steel” Joseph
Bertrand Blu Klein
The Narcysist
Inobe & Karlito NotarGiovanni
Sista Rae
Vanessa Dorvily
Jason Milan Ghikadis
JD Hobbes
Dorothy Clarke
Valerie Khayat
Selene Isles

With musical interludes by:

DJ DELEON
DJ B’UGO
DJ FRANKY SELECTOR

To be added to the registry you must sign a consent form (to be added only, not to consent to donating marrow) and have a blood test or swab test. That's it.

SO CAN WE ALL SIGN UP & REGISTER?

The McGill Savoy Society Presents "Life Goes On"

Hey everyone!

I'm co-directing a fundraiser for the McGill Savoy Society and I'd like to invite you all to attend. It's called the Life Goes On and it is a collection of vignettes reflecting aspects of living paired with contemporary musical theatre. Once again, we've been working really hard to break away from the stuffy Gilbert and Sullivan tradition, so we've created an event featuring a full bar and a good old fashioned bake sale. It's all happening at the Sala Rossa (4848 Boulevard St. Laurent at Villeneuve) on Sunday, November 26th. Doors are at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm. Tickets go for a $10, and that covers a night with songs by Jason Robert Brown, Jonathan Larson, Stephen Sondheim and others. Life Goes On promises to be an evocative evening rife with poignant moments.

Reserve your tickets today at mcgillsavoy.ca!

Okay honestly...who would be up for a listening party of the new Switchfoot record before it comes out?

I'm getting an early copy and am trying to set something up where people would donate canned food, toys, money, etc and we'd give that out to Montrealers in need. I just want to see if there'd be enough of a demand for it...
