Outside Alcohol
I don't mean to cause any trouble, of course, I'm just cheap and curious on what authority these places could fine people for brining their own drinks.

Hey, I'm visiting Montreal for the weekend for the first time ever (I'm from NY).
Can anyone recommend good dive bars? And preferably ones that play 80s punk rock? Especially ones with an awesome jukebox that offers said punk rock?
I checked the tags, and after two years of "bars" posts, I figured I'd ask here. Sorry if this is obnoxiously repetitive (I'm a member of the New Yorkers livejournal group, I have seen people eaten alive because of that). Thanks a lot!
I'm embarking on my Montreal summer jaunt tomorrow, making the trip across the pond to see you.
Over the past few weeks I have managed to meet several Canadians whwith experience of living in Montreal who have been very lovely to me and given me some bits of advice. However, some of their advice has been a bit conflicting re: the jobhunt: while some ex-Montreal-ers insist I'll have a very tough time finding a job with a very basic level of French, others insist that they've known people to live and work in Montreal for years and years without knowing any French - what is your experience?
I imagine it would be difficult in some areas, but would probably be ok if I kept my search to the English speaking areas I've been told about; (Mile End, Verdun, St Henri, Rosemont, Little Italy, Plateau, McGill....any advances?)
I had a little look on Craigslist just there and see there are several ads placed in English, although I was a little perturbed by this one: http://montreal.en.craigslist.ca/fbh/733
Also, being an out of towner would I have less chance of getting a bar-job in Montreal if I don't have any 'clientele'? I'm a good worker, I just don't think my bar 'regulars' would fancy the cab-fare to and from Glasgow...This all sounds very sleazy, really!
And this is going to sound a bit embarassing, but seeing as I know literally NOBODY in Montreal, what's the dating scene like?
I imagine I'll meet girls in my hostel seeing as I'm in an all girls' dorm, but what are the men like in Canada?
My only experience of North America was being Cat-called in NYC. I'd like a compromise that lies somewhere between sexual harassment and British coyness please - like, for example, would a guy be likely to come up and start ca conversation while in a café or in the street? That's more or less unheard of in Scotland, unless alcohol is involved. it would be nice to meet somebody to show me around.
I also want to know more about an apparently amazing bar a travelling fellow told me about in my bar the other week: it's called something like Casa De Pappalo and it's somewhere near St Laurent and St Cath, but his makeshift map didn't map my Lonely Planet guide so I don't know if he was making it up to get a free drink from me...
Hopefully I'll be able to see some answers before I fly off, I'm really just doing this to avoid packing my things...
See you soon, Montreal!

I just turned 18 and have never gone clubbing.
I moved to montreal to go to concordia and was invited to go to saints show bar
I was wondering
-winter coats, what do I do with them after i get into the club? Do I just carry the down jacket around?
-are the drinks expensive and watered down?
-is the club good? I don't even know what a bad club is but would like some opinions.
any pictures of the club?
I just moved to the neighbourhood and while i know about a couple of places that are good to go to in the evening, i'm sure there's lots i don't know about. Where can i go to
1) find a cafe (other than Cagibi and Arts Cafe) that has music most nights of the week with inexpensive cover charges?
2) find a bar that has a dj that plays rock/indie/etc during the week with an inexpensive or free cover charge?
