Hey everyone,
I'm an undergrad student in Boston and I am currently considering moving to Montreal post-grad [because it's beautiful, cheap, hip, not the States, etc.] I'm an interdisciplinary major specializing in photography, art history, and arts administration. Ideally I'd like to work at one of the city's many cultural museums or other institutions. I've been to the Musée des Beaux-Arts, but beyond that I'm fairly unfamiliar with other public studios, galleries, and museums in the city.
Can anyone recommend some good places to check out to possibly apply to for internships (paid or not) or entry-level employment? I've e-mailed the Musee des Beaux-Arts (they didn't have any employement/internship information listed on their website) but I'd like to broaden my search. I'm not terribly picky as long as it's something interesting and relevant.
Also, I do study and speak French decently - I don't expect that to be an obstacle. I'm going to Paris to study next spring and I expect to be near-fluent by the time I graduate.
Also, how difficult is it for Americans to work in Montreal? I imagine it's not terribly difficult to get work permits, but if any one has any personal experience, I'd appreciate it. I'm worried there might be obstacles with employers preferring native French-Canadians, or French speakers in general, but I'm hoping that's not the case. Please let me know!
Thanks!
