Ok. Montreal, I need your help again.

I've been looking to get a new tv. Mainly either a LCD, Plasma or ACL(think it's called). I want nothing smaller than a 42 inch though.
My problem is this. I want a really good deal, and need a place that lets you pay monthly. Like The Brick, Brault & Martinault..ect.

Does anyone know of any great deals going on? Or other stores that does this? Other than Rent to Own please.

Thanks

Washer-dryer for sale

Hi everyone

I'm moving in 2 weeks and I still have a Kenmore washer-dryer set for sale. They were bought in 2006 at ML. Both work perfectly fine, the washer is missing the knob but it doesn't affect manoeuvrability and performance only esthetic.

I'm moving out in two weeks and I am ready to negociate a fair price; I was asking for 200$ for the set but I willing to let them go for around 160ish$ Let me know what you're willing to pay.

Please call me 514-977-0460 or email me at gab.devries@gmail.com

I can't seem to upload a picture from my pc here so check out the add on kiji:

Used appliance stores on Papineau?

Oh Montreal community, you rarely fail us.

I recall there being a few used appliance stores on Papineau. Are they worth the time? I'm most likely moving in a few weeks to a place without any appliances, and I would need a fridge & stove, and hopefully a washer and dryer if the budget permits it. Are these appliances guaranteed to work, or is it Buyer Beware? Should I just go with the liquidation stuff at Brault et Martineau instead?

the number on the page says it is unassigned.

does anyone by chance know a phone number for them, or other reputable companies that would be able to deal in english for someone who needs a timer replaced on her washer?

thanks so much!!

Washer and dryer hook-ups.

Hi guys,

We just moved into our appartment and are first time washer and dryer owners (second hand). We have hooked up the washer to hot and cold and the draining pipe, but can't figure out how to avoid the leaking to the ground of the water when we turn the water on. It mostly goes down the hose... any idea how to fix it? I am thinking duct tape because that makes sense to me, but any suggestions would be great,

looking for a mini fridge...

Okay, so, any of you have (or know where one could find) a little mini fridge that they want to get rid of? My Mom needs one to hold students' medication (& her own lunches too), but the budget just isn't there, so she's hoping to find one FREE. I'm already keeping my eye out on freecycle, but thought I'd try asking here.
If you've got one (or can get one), please comment here, or email me at misskitty . 79 @ gmail . com

GREAT service.

Our fridge died and I had to go shopping for a new one.  Luckily I went to Corbeil (the one on Newman in Lasalle) because they had some of the best service I've ever experienced.  For one thing, even though I showed up about 20 minutes before the store closed the salesman (Claude) was very patient and kept looking up fridge after fridge because the one I wanted wasn't in stock.  At no point did I feel like he was in a hurry to close or just hanging around to make a sale.

Also, for about $45 (incl. tax) they'll make a same day emergency delivery (before 10pm) if you buy your fridge before 3pm.  In fact, I called yesterday because it was obvious our fridge was dead not dying and the nice lady there arranged to have it delivered a day early.  In the end the truck broke down (she was *so* apologetic when she called to tell me) so I was back to having it delivered today but she was able to put a rush on it and I had the new fridge by 8:30 this morning.

The delivery guys were pros and it took all of ten minutes to get the new fridge in and the old one out.  We're on the second floor with a tight turn but that didn't seem to phase them.  My only issue is that there was nothing protecting the finish on the fridge but they didn't scratch it so all's well.

To sum up: good prices, excellent service, great delivery and one very happy customer.

edit: I thought it would be nice to see a post about a store that does things right for a change. :)

Wanted: Unwanted Televisions

As part of a personal project I am looking to collect small to medium-small television sets. Working or not, in fact all the better if they’re not because I plan to dismantle them. The funkier looking the better.

If you have any older television sets sitting around your house waiting to be thrown out or to find a better home I would greatly appreciate the donation to my project.

I live in the West Island and would be willing to pick anything up in the area, heck you could even leave it at the end of your driveway and just tell me when and where.

If it’s small enough to carry I’d be happy to pick something up downtown, too.

You can post here or send me an email at: laura fin at g mail dot com (take out the spaces, etc.)

Thanks!

Apartments with gas stoves

July saw me move into an apartment with a gas stove, a thing totally foreign and unfamiliar to me (or any of my immediate family, for that matter). Most people I know have visions of explosions and stories of people they know having rather unforuntate accidents with their stoves. So far, I have not blown myself up, and don't particularly expect to. It's been a bit hit and miss figuring out what is what, given that none of the dials have any labels worth talking about, and when I asked the janitor in the building if he had some idea as to what was what for the oven dial, he seemed shocked that I would actually care what temperature things were set at. "Oh ... you cook like that? I don't know then." Perhaps North Americans are too picky about having explicit directions?

This aside, we have one burner which, I assume, requires adjusting. Although there is no visible smoke, it is producing a rather annoying quantity of black soot/ash which is, in turn, clogging itself up. The other burners have not exhibited this behaviour, so I can only blame the burner.

Yet, the janitor turns it on and concludes that all is fine because there is fire. I haven't yet figured out how to describe my concern in other terms which might be more readily understood, though ...

I am no expert, and the information I've found online on these things has been a bit sketchy, but is this not a potential problem? My guess is that a carbon monoxide detector would have a field day with this, if what I'm reading is accurate.

And if it is, whose responsibility is it to, well, fix it? Me, or the landlord? I would be inclined to say the latter, but given that they've concluded non-functioning wall plugs are not a priority if it doesn't make living impossible, and a month later I still have a constantly-running toilet, I want to make sure of this before I start getting more... "insistent" about these issues.

Proper dryer hookup

Can anyone tell me who I might call to have a dryer vent hooked up properly?  My new washer and dryer were delivered today, and after I had taped up the vent hose with duct tape, I read in the instructions that one should never use duct tape to hook up a dryer vent hose.  Whoops.

Anyway, I don't even know what kind of technician/repairman would do that type of thing.  Inform me, please!

Thanks!!!

Appliances for sale - Bargain!

I have four appliances I am selling. They are all in good working condition and clean.

The fridge and stove - photo taken this past March - Sorry the pic is not very good.

There is a Beaumark washer and dryer available, as well. Both in very good condition.

I am asking $120 each, or $400 for all four.

Please contact me at my email: protennoia@gmail.com

Does anyone know where I can get a (preferably used) dressmaker's dummy/model/form? (Image taken from here because it was the best example I could find!) The ideal would be just a plain one (it doesn't even have to be clean or in perfect condition, haha) with one of those knobs at the top and a wooden stand, but I could go either way.

Also, does anyone have a sewing machine that they would be willing to part with at a reasonable price? My mom and I used to share one but she "borrowed" it for her boyfriend's house and I don't think I'm going to get it back, and with summer approaching, I really feel like practicing my sewing again.

Lastly, any suggestions for places that sell fabric, patterns and the like? I know a couple, but I could always go for some new spots to check out.

Camera Mishap

Hey, Kids...

Seems, I did a bad-bad thing. Or, something strange anyway;

I'd been using my MP3 player as a mass-storage device to get my documents from my old computer, to my new computer, for lack of a USB key.
Today, I had to move the last of the stuff over, and needed a bit more space to play with, so rather than using my MP3 Player, I decided to use my el-cheapo digital camera instead, seeing as I'd used it to this effect to take files to school in the past, and had no problems.
I cut my files from my old computer, and pasted them into my camera. most of the files transfered, but hit upon a video clip that it told me was too big for the camera, and did I want to retry, or cancel? I hit cancel, with the intention of deleting that file and continuing as I was. When I did so, it told me the mass storage device (my camera) was not formatted, and did I want to do that.

Someone once told me that if I formatted this camera, it would never take pictures again. So, I hit no.

If I disconnect the camera from both computers, it wants to format itself.

Now, here's the thing... The files that *did* get transfered onto the camera are incredibly important (10 years worth of writing.) and I really need them. They're not on my old computer anymore, 'cause I hit "cut" rather than "copy" -- Can I save them? Un-cut them? Can I get them off my camera? Should I format it? What do I do!

Oh, Help me, Livejournal land... Please help!

Moving appliances

I need to move a couple appliances within Montreal. Anybody know a good company or couple people with a van? I'd like to hear if anyone had a good experience or could tell me someone to avoid. I would like to do it for as cheap as possible (obviously) but I also don't want a headache (obviously).

I called Ameublement Elvis today (you know, the one on Papineau) about buying my old appliances. The woman I spoke with took my address and said someone would call me later to arrange a time. A few hours later, two men arrived in the Elvis truck. I showed them around back, they checked to see that the washing machine functioned. As they fiddled with it, I went back to the front door to hurriedly continue loading up the moving truck (paying by the hour of course). A little while later, I went back to the back door of the apartment, and the guys and the washer were gone.

Do you have any experience like this? Do you have any idea of the typical protocol? Although the washer was in decent condition, I can appreciate taking it back to the shop to further assess it (as opposed to handing me cash), but they left without a word! So do I wait around a day or two to hear back from them? Or do I angrily march over there in a sumo wrestler outfit with an intimidatingly large sized wrench?
