UTIs, antibiotics, herbal remedies...

hello beautiful Montrealers,

i guess i come here searching for two things, both very much related.

first, anyone who has experienced extremely reoccurring urinary tract infections and/or problems with their bladder, kidneys. this is me, and i have spent a great deal of time and money and bodily harm on being on antibiotics. although i have (finally) seen a urologist in the city, it looks as though my life will more or less consist of continued antibiotic use, or else i can take the path of becoming asexual (as this appears to be one of the several sources of my problem).   eugh.  i guess i'm just looking to connect with someone, anyone, who may unfortunately have the same fate as I to see thier coping mechanisms.

second, a place where i can purchase different types of herbal antiseptics, astringents which help prevent and help deal with the urinary tract. specifically, im looking for

a) calendula flower (!!!!) an herbal antibiotic...
b) Joe-Pye weed,
c) holly hock... etc

thank you in advance

acupuncture/migraines

Hello,

For years I've been treating my chronic migraines quite unsuccessfully with medications prescribed by a neurologist and vitamin supplements, and I'm ready to try something more "alternative." I'm thinking acupuncture might work.

So I'm trying to find an acupuncturist in Montreal. Has anyone found a good one? I hesitate to just walk into any old clinic, so any recommendations would be much appreciated. Has anyone reading this used acupuncture to treat migraines? What might one expect from a visit to an acupuncturist, besides how they apparently look at your tongue the first time you go in? And what is the typical price range? I'd obviously prefer to pay as little as possible, but I can hopefully get my insurance to cover a bit.

Oh, and if you happen to have any other magic cures for the big M, do tell...

Thanks!

Psychics, Spiritual/Holistic Healers

Does anyone know of any very good and relatively inexpensive psychics and/or spiritual healers in this city?

I want a repeat episode of the good ones I've had in other places, the kind of person that sees you and immediately reads your life as though the whole thing is projected through your eyes, blows your mind just a little bit, provides rock-solid advice, and genuinely cares about how the whole healing process works for individuals.

I'm down for anything: astrologers, acupuncturists, counselors, masseuses, reiki practitioners, etc. Basically someone who is evidently connected to.. something, out there and naturally provides others with access to that doorway.

In Pain

Anyone have any recommendations for massage therapists, osteopaths, and physiotherapists in the Plateau or Mile End or Downtown who are certified (and thus covered by workplace insurance)? Ones who work evenings and weekends are especially appreciated.
Thank you.

Anyone ever tried the flotation baths at the Ovarium?

Has anyone ever tried the flotation baths at the Ovarium? How did you like it? I'm going for my first appointment tomorrow and have absolutely no idea what to expect (aside from a bit of claustrophobia)? :)

hello,

has anyone been to weight watchers meetings in montreal? i have been debating joining but i'm not a huge fan of the 15$ a week price!

for those of you who went, can you let me know what you thought? were to staff helpful? were you able to loose weight? did most people who go have a relatively small amount to lose or were there people there of all sizes? do you recommend the meeting you went to? (and if so please tell me which that is.

any help or opinions would be helpful. i'm torn at the moment.

Hi,

I'm moving to Montreal this January and I was wondering a couple of things.

1) Can anyone recommend a good chiropractor? I'm looking for someone who does the Torque-Release Techinique but more importantly, someone who knows what they are doing torque release or not. downtown or in the vicinity prefereable but not over effectiveness of treatment

2) I want to go to the doctors office when I get there (knee problems and such). Is it as impossible as it is in Manitoba to find a general practitioner in Montreal? If that's the case, can anyone recommend a good walk in clinic downtown or within the vicinity?

Suggestions? Comments?

Caffeine Time!

Hey there MTLers!

I was wondering if any of you knew where I could find a shop that sold caffeinated products (e.g. caffeinated gum or candies)

I tried getting my stuff off of Thinkgeek, but the 25$ shipping cost to Canada is sorta a major turn-off.

Thanks in advance!

PS: A friend recommended Sucre Bleu but I haven't scoped them out yet.

---------------------

Hello again!
I checked the memories and tags and nothing proved very useful..

My boyfriend is in need of a good and affordable chiropractor (am I even spelling it right?!). I know some of you out there may think a chiropractor is simply a quick fix etc but he is insistent that he would like to see one and I'm helping with the search.

Something easily accessible by public transportation would be great and it would need to be affordable as well. An address or a phone number as well as a personal experience if you have one would be great! Any help would be much appreciated :)
Thank you!

Hi,

Are there any yoga studios that people out there recommend?

I live in the West Island and ideally would like to find somewhere in the area, but I study downtown (Concordia student) and if anyone can recommend somewhere exceptionally great, I'd love to hear about it.

Where I previously lived the studio I would use would be drop in optional and you could rent your own mats. It was a lovely, clean, professional and friendly place and I'd love to find something similar.

On a different note, I've recently been diagnosed with a TMJ disorder and from what I'm encountering it seems to be surprisingly common. Mine is especially painful and the specialists I've been seeing are charging me $200 a pop just to tell me what I already know.

Anyone ever deal with this and have any solutions? (The yoga is apparently one of the solutions!)

Osteopaths

Hi all,

I've searched the memories, but see nothing pertinent. I'm looking for recommendations for osteopaths in the centre of town/plateau area, or at the very least near good public transport.

Thanks,

D.

The Essential Laws of Health with Mary Swaine
Tuesday, October 3rd. at 7:30pm

Is there an easy and concise way of understanding what affects health on four different levels: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual?   What is required to attain satisfaction and pleasure in all these levels?  For example, how do we attune ourselves to the laws of rest and nutrition?

Mary Swaine, a psychotherapist and doctor of Naturopathy, has long studied those questions and she has developed answers that are simple and practical.

Come with a friend to this Padua Dialogue to hear Mary and bring your own experience with the challenge of health on its many levels.

Alternative therapies

Hello again all :)

Is there anyone out there who can recommend a good accupuncturist? I've found a few but would like a recommendation as sometimes these alternative medicial places can be kinda sketchy.

I'd also love recommendations for any other kind of natural health specialist whom you think would be able to assist with gastro issues/mood disorders.

And finally, I'm looking for a good gastroenterology specialist in the city, the one I've been refferred to is on vacation.

Thanks again!

Acupuncture

So I'm living in the West Island. I had a car wreck some while ago and due to stress and another accident and what not my arm is starting to seize up on me again. Acupncture worked wonders last time. I already found a masseuse here but I need to find someone that you would recommend for acupuncture. Someone you or a friend have personally been to and can give positive feedback about. I know there are lots around but I want to make sure the person knows what they are doing :)
I'd go to my normal place but I moved to Montreal for the summer and my guy is in Calgary
