People think I'm a soulless douchebag when I say it, but it's really no worse than most factory farming (I actually think it's better because not only do the animals die quickly but they also get to live a normal existance before the slaughter), and babies aren't hunted (legally) anymore. I can see that you're a vegan, so I respect your opinion more because of that, but seriously, all you're doing is raging against one of the few form of income that many, many mariners living far below the poverty line have. Not to mention that it's a traditional form of substenance for the Natives, and honestly, I think we have no right to judge them. We're living on their land.

When I see meat-eating people protest the seal hunt, it kind of reminds me of all the Americans who get immensely indignant when they hear that dogs are still occasionally eaten in Korea, all the while chewing on their double bacon cheeseburgers.

My only real problem with it is that in modern seal hunting most of the animal is discarded and only the fur is kept.

Okay, so after reading up on it it appears that I was wrong...even if white seals aren't hunted much anymore, the ones that are killed are still generally pups. My bad.

I'd like to clarify that I find the whole thing immensely distasteful, but not as distasteful as, say, veal. Or intensive pig farming.

Why is this less distasteful than veal or pig farming? I am vegan, which means I am against all of it. Veal and pigs are eaten. Seals are skinned for fashion, primarily. It's the fur that sells for the most money.

Why does it have to be made fun of when a cause is protested for? As soon as someone protests a cause, people like those who have posted here enjoy making a farce and saying there are better causes, or we only protest for cute animals. I protest for all animals and humans too.

Duh! If the animal is below the threshold level of cuteness (below 5.0 centikawaii), it is obviously fair game. ;D

Margaret Fuller, I think that I could turn and live with the animals. . . Not one of them is demented with the mania of owning things.

This is irrelevant because I am vegan and so were most of the people protesting. We protest for all animals, not just cute ones. Seals are only white like that for a few weeks, they are a lot less cute afterward.

It is relevant to me and my group of friends because we all eat meat. I was not reffering to you, hence my comment being a reply to another commenter, and not to you/this post.

As in respond with clarity, since most people get shy when a camera is shoved in their face.

The usual stuff to do with talking to the media- memorizing facts and statistics.
