Ok. Montreal, I need your help again.

I've been looking to get a new tv. Mainly either a LCD, Plasma or ACL(think it's called). I want nothing smaller than a 42 inch though.
My problem is this. I want a really good deal, and need a place that lets you pay monthly. Like The Brick, Brault & Martinault..ect.

Does anyone know of any great deals going on? Or other stores that does this? Other than Rent to Own please.

Thanks

Best (re: cheapest!) way of getting to the airport?

Hullo, all!  I'm trying to get to Trudeau airport from downtown. My beau suggested taking a cab, since they apparently have flat rates, but that will add $35 to my already sadly low budget for this trip.

The STM website is not terribly helpful, and I really don't know much about this city (outside of the downtown area). How close could I expect to get to the airport on an STM bus?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Language classes and driving

I'm interested in starting up my Japanese lessons again, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend some places? In 2003 I took Japanese at Vanier, but they have since canceled the program, and no other cegeps or universities offer it outside of full-time-student registration.

My primary objective is to learn spoken Japanese in order to communicate as fluently as possible, but written Japanese would be a great bonus. I've seen private tutors and the like listed on places like Craigslist, but I'm not too keen on going to a stranger's home or having them over to mine. A group/classroom environment (4 or more students, ideally) would be best.

Also, on an unrelated note....

I visited the SAAQ website but could only find information in French, which isn't easy for me to read. I want to garner some information about receiving a driver's license. So far I've been told many different things by different people, and I just want some facts so I can make an informed decision.

What I need to know is:
- Can I take the permit test without having been to lessons/school?
- I am 22; will I need to wait 12 months to acquire my license once obtaining the permit? (my 17 year old cousin got her full license in 8 or 9 months, so I'm wondering...)
- What are some good driving schools in the West Island area?

Thank you in advance for your assistance &heart;

Looking for a specific jewelry stand

Hi Montreal,

While perusing the St. Laurent sidewalk sales a few weeks ago I saw this jewelry stand, run by a single female merchant, which featured resin(?)-pressed leaves and flower petals of various sizes, in earrings as well as necklaces. I didn't have cash at the time, but the next time I went back, she was gone. Does anyone know where her regular stand is, or if she's still selling them?

Thanks!

It'll be a fun time! You should all come! There will also be a performance at 7PM.

We will be there from noon until 11PM so come whenever you can!

Free fantasia movies?

I distinctly remember walking into movies for free at the Fantasia festival...in that ground-floor cinema in the Hall building. Was that just me walking into something without paying (I tend to do that, it's an accidental, spaced-out gift), or are there actually free films?

I will also take recommendations for other places that show free movies :)

Btw, I just submitted a post selling some stuff. Took me a while to write descriptions and upload pix. Unfortunately, I do see it anywhere..........Can anyone tell me what happened? What should I do to make it re-appear?

I know people occasionally post about movies being filmed in the city and it may interest someone out there..

There is a movie being filmed in downtown Montreal tomorrow called 'Beastly'. The two main actresses are Vanessa Hudgens (from High School Musical) and Mary Kate Olsen.

I work for a company that rents out apartments one of the streets where they'll be filming so they had to give us all the info in order to have permission from us to use our buildings in the shoot. I grabbed a copy of the flyer with the information we were supposed to put up in our buildings in case anyone is curious:

July 8th, 2009
From 7am to 6am
On St. Marc between St. Catherine and Rene Levesque, Tupper between Du Fort and St. Mathieu, and St. Catherine between Du Fort and St. Mathieu.

downtown groceries

hey guys :)

I am moving to Montreal, I'll be living on Lincoln by Guy-Concordia metro. I'm just wondering if there are any good but cheap grocery stores in that area, or should I expect to have to travel a bit to find something like that? I will be a student living  on a budget and without a car, so any recommendations would be really appreciated, so I don't end up spending/travelling more than I need to.

I would also prefer to get everything at one store rather than have to make several trips, but if there is anywhere that is particularly good for certain things, I'd love to know.

If anyone has any other secrets about this location that they'd like to share that might be helpful for a girl living on her own in Montreal for the first time, please do!

thanks a lot.

Hello there,

This might seem like a slightly odd question, but I'm going to be spending some time in Montreal and was wondering if anyone could direct me towards finding Human Research Trials, clinical trials, psychological research studies, etc. that I could participate in. Does anyone know where to look for this sort of thing?

Thanks!

Warped Tour! And Me Being a Total Tourist!

Hey, so I'm going to the Warped Tour at the Parc-Jean Drapeau (?) in Montreal. And my friend and I are staying at a hostel nearby, I'm told it's 'right in the center of Old Montreal.' The show is this Saturday (the 11th), but we'll be up there the whole weekend.

I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for places to go during the day and at night? We're both over eighteen, so an obligatory night of bar-hopping will ensue, I'm sure. But I want to actually SEE the city before we head back to the states.
Any help you can comment with is greatly encouraged!

And is it mostly a French-speaking area, or English?

Thanks so much!
-Jo

Pedicures in the South West

Where in the South West (St. Henri, Westmount, and surrounding) is the best and cheapest place for pedicures? I've seen the websites of some of the more posh places around the area and in the old port. I'm not really looking to spend more than $35 so I'm trying to track down those little hole-in-the-wall places that everyone might not know about.

Any leads are appreciated!
