Issues with my metro

Hey Montreal,

I'd like to share certain issues I have with our metro system. In fact, I don't know if there are any organisms or groups at work regarding these, so if you've heard of something, please point me in the right direction:

1) Recycling vs garbage. I just returned from New-Brunswick and P-EI and I can't believe I was gullible enough to think Montreal was truly concerned with recycling. It seems nowadays that everywhere I go outside of Montreal and Quebec, everyone has the common sense of putting recycling bins and ashtrays right next to the garbage bins. In Moncton, you have trash, paper, plastic, metals and glass, all neatly lined up in the same spot. Obvious!
Does anyone knows why Montreal, and in particular the STM, with its ever-present campaign for us to pick ourselves up in the Metro, hasn't got the genius to realize this? Is anyone at work on that?

2) MP3 Cellphones, and the idiots using the crappy loudspeaker (such at it is) in public. That's not a pet peeve, it's downright disrespectful. But I did witness one thing tonight while waiting for my connection at Jean-Talon: if someone yells at the person with enough conviction and strength, other people can join in and protest too for the person to turn it off.
Are there any penalties or something like that for people who turn up their music publicly, just like that? Those cops who patrol in the Metro, do they address this issue? Could it be considered a public disturbance/nuisance?

3) Okay, nobody can really do anything about it, so just a FYI to those metro zombies who walk in front of the wagon's doors as it stops: two diametrically opposed and equal forces cannot overcome each other. Simple physics. So can you please wait until people get off the metro before swarming in? Because when I walk out and I bump into you and you get hurt or you fall to the floor or I slam my gym bag inadvertedly in your face, it's in reality not my fault you rushed me and kept me from exiting as I should.

---
Any thoughts on those issues?

What's with this community lately.. I don't know why but seem to me more idiots are around..
Usually those idiots will reply something totally inappropriate to what the person ask.. and it won't be relevant at all or itll be just pure trolling..

I never seen so many of it until lately, and, I've been on LJ and I think this community since you need a code to join LJ..

Someone will ask something, a real question, and people will either tell them to look it up online or some other answer that is either mean, rude or simply stupid.

Aren't we a community here to help people? Seriously, if you don't wanna help, don't reply..
And, I'm not a mod or anything, just someone sick of seeing replies that are in no way nice or usefull to a question,
I like this community because we all help each others, but lately we make it sound like Montreal is a city who don't care about these people, and it's bad..

Mod: Please feel free to remove my post if you think it's innapropriate, I just feel like expressing myself on something I seen way too much lately.

An open letter:

Dear Montreal pedestrians and drivers,

When I yell "HEY!" or "WATCH OUT!" at you as I am riding down the de Maisonneuve bike path, it is not because I want to fight you. It is because I don't want either of us to get injured, and while off in your own world you have stepped off of the sidewalk into the bike lane, or are ignoring the traffic signs which clearly state that I have the right of way.

Please pay attention!

Thanks,
The bike patrol

(And while I'm at it -- my fellow cyclists, please do not bike on the sidewalk! It is crazy, dangerous, frustrating, inconsiderate, and illegal. Much thanks.)

Community Bands

Does anyone know of a friendly drop-in community band on the island looking for alto saxes? I used to be really into music in high school and I'd love to pick up it back up in a fun, laid back environment. So far all I have found were a couple pretty serious groups (Lakeshore being one of them). I'm looking for a group that meets once or twice a week and will not be too upset if a person misses a practice here and there.

Thanks for the help!

Does anyone know how long the construction on Cote-Vertu i for?
Leaving my house 45-30 mins early just because I don't know when the bus is gonna pass or how long the bus ride is gonna be is ridiculous. Why didn't they just finish it all last year?s

Montreal - Boston without greyhound

I want to go to Boston the weekend of July 26th to visit a friend of mine, but the bus return schedules don't really work for me.

Amtrak doesn't run to Boston and the only way to get there is to go to New York first, which is kind of pointless.

Does anyone know of any other cheap methods for getting there? I've tried posting an ad on Craig's List (no response), but I'm most interested if there are any alternative bus lines to Boston, similar to the Hasid bus to New York. I could have SWORN there was one a long time ago, but I could be making shit up.

help!

Also, why is Boston so hard to access from Montreal? With the number of students here AND there, I would have thought there'd be more service.

I'm about to throw my hands up and go to new york instead.

Orange Julep

I'm going on a blind date tomorrow and the guy suggested we go to Orange Julep. Is this a good date spot? I'm a bit nervous because it's not the most public of places and I'm not wanting to be alone with the guy when I haven't even met him. Also, is there booze there because I'm not going to lie, if it's a bad date, I'm going to need some. to calm my nerves. Advice? Better place to go that's west of downtown preferably on the orange line?
