Movers

Hi Everyone,

I guess many of you moved (or will be moving) this month. Can anyone refer me to decently priced reliable movers? I just need a few hours and a truck and don't want to pay a fortune.

(I checked the tags and the numbers were all outdated)

also, if anyone wants to share their experience with any companies (good or bad) i'd love to hear

thanks!

Coiffure recommendations

Hi everyone. I'm looking to cut my hair very short after having long hair for over five years and I would like to get some recommendations for excellent hair dressers. My girlfriend is moving away for a year and I'd really like to surprise her with the best possible cut I can get.

Is there anyone or any place you think is particularly good?

The downtown area would be ideal but I'm willing to travel further. I'm also willing to pay more than usual for a really great cut.

Thanks a lot!
House.

Hello there

My brother's girlfriend is moving from Ottawa here in like 2 days. She does not speak French at all. Maybe just a few words but not enough to hold up a conversation in a retail situation. So, she needs a job and obviously its going to be at a call centre until she learns some French buut the thing is they are moving to the West Island (near fairview) So I heard that there are call centres (more like customer servicey ones rather than trying to sell stuff) but we searched high and low and can't find the names and adresses and numbers of them.
So can any of you lovely people help?

And while I'm at it, I have an obsession with cool belts/belt buckles, any cheaper places that sell really cool belt buckles (my taste varies from super big peace signs to revolvers to stars...)?

Thankssss.

Recycling

Does anyone know what day/time the recycling trucks pass by in the Plateau? I'm cat-sitting for my sister-in-law and she didn't mention.
She's on Parc near Mount-Royal, to narrow it down.

payment in cash for jobs

Hey everyone, I just found this community after moving to Montreal from the UK two weeks ago.

I've been looking for a job for about a week now, and today I was offered a job in a coffee shop on the plateau. The place seems really nice, the hours are flexible and apparently the tips are good. However, the manager wants to pay me in cash. I have a working visa, a SIN and a bank account so its not like he couldn't pay it into my bank/pay me properly.

Being paid in cash seems a bit dodgy to me, and I'm not sure if its even allowed here. I know that being paid cash 'under the table' if someone doesn't have a working visa is illegal, but as I have a visa is it ok? or could I get into trouble for not paying taxes?

I did find this http://www.cnt.gouv.qc.ca/en/wages-pay-and-work/pay/index.html which says employees can be paid in cash in a sealed envelope, but I think he was just planning to pay me at the end of each shift. And I doubt that he'd give me a pay sheet.

Sorry about the stupid questions and general confusion, but I'm just not sure what to do!

Any help/advice would be appreciated!

Hairdresser & esthetician

A friend of mine is finally well after having been very ill. She would like to go to a salon this week and get her hair cut & coloured. She would also like a facial scrub, manicure, and have facial hair tidied up. She really wants this all to happen in one trip. She said she isn't really interested in a spa.

Any suggestions - not too expensive?

Flights?

This is not really Montreal related but I figured some of you could help me..

I am trying to book a flight from Toronto to Montreal and i've found a Dutch website (I am Dutch) and they have Air Canada flights starting at 300 dollars. When I look at Canadian websites I find flights starting at 130 dollar (same date, different airlines but Air Canada as well). The problem is I don't have a creditcard so I can't book a flight anywhere but at the Dutch website.

Does any of you have a great idea how to book the cheap flights without a creditcard?
Thanks :)

Edit: my creditcard came in by mail this morning, but thanks!! :)

where can i buy a small balcony table?

Do you guys know where i could buy a *small* circular exterior table for my balcony that isn't too expensive? You know the type with 2 chairs. Ideally i'd pay less than $100 :)

(And not Ikea.)

Thanks!

Cat Groomer / hair trimmer ??

Can anyone suggest a decent an affordable place that shaves/trims pet (cat) hair?
I'm in Verdun, but work on the plateau so anywhere in between would be great.

*please no hate emails - I'm doing this because i love my kitty, he's shedding like and I'm allergic to his fuzz. he gets more cuddles with less hair! :P
