Hey everyone, I just found this community after moving to Montreal from the UK two weeks ago.
I've been looking for a job for about a week now, and today I was offered a job in a coffee shop on the plateau. The place seems really nice, the hours are flexible and apparently the tips are good. However, the manager wants to pay me in cash. I have a working visa, a SIN and a bank account so its not like he couldn't pay it into my bank/pay me properly.
Being paid in cash seems a bit dodgy to me, and I'm not sure if its even allowed here. I know that being paid cash 'under the table' if someone doesn't have a working visa is illegal, but as I have a visa is it ok? or could I get into trouble for not paying taxes?
I did find this
http://www.cnt.gouv.qc.ca/en/wages-pay-and-work/pay/index.html which says employees can be paid in cash in a sealed envelope, but I think he was just planning to pay me at the end of each shift. And I doubt that he'd give me a pay sheet.
Sorry about the stupid questions and general confusion, but I'm just not sure what to do!
Any help/advice would be appreciated!
