(no subject)

I'm in search of a area in Montreal that has activities for children today. I wanted to go to Lachine Canal on 45th but apparently, nothing is happening there this year.

SO, please Montrealers, spam me with areas that I can take my kids (age 2 to 9) for fun stuff and fireworks tonight. (Not LaRonde)

No Old Port Fireworks this year!

So after half an hour of googling my heart out to try and find the Old Port Canada Day fireworks start time, I finally found a phone number of the Old Port tourism office.

I was informed that there will be no Canada Day fireworks in the Old Port this year!!

What the hell is up with that? Why are we breaking with tradition?
I know the Old Port is federally owned so there is no way that this has anything to do with Quebec politics. Anyone know what the deal is?
Hey baby won't you please stay.

Video camera rentals

Does anyone know where I can rent a good-quality video camera for two or three weeks, preferably somewhere with decent pricing? I'm going on tour with a friend and I'd like to get some footage of her first US tour, you know, for the vaults :) Or if anyone's looking to sell one for cheap, let me know. Thanks for any suggestions!

PS. One can still get into the US by land with just a birth certificate and ID, right? I've been trying to find the date when passports will become mandatory and I think it was 2009 but I haven't found any info.

hotels downtown

Hi, I'm visiting the lovely city of Montreal at the beginning of August, and my boyfriend is convinced that the Hotel Inter-Continental in Old Montreal is the best way to go. I am skeptical because it seems overpriced for what it is...does anyone have any first-hand experience with this hotel or any others in the area? Which would you recommend? Thanks for any and all suggestions! Merci!

Edit to Add: We are staying in a hostel for a couple days to save money, but want the last two nights to be extra-nice! So that's why he was sorta looking at a pricier hotel. I still think we should try to save money though. ;-)
