    English *crossoff* NOOOOOOOOOO

My english teacher is the same one that I got kicked out of her class for having all sorts of yelling matches with. So when I saw it was her teaching the class, I turned around and walked away from the class. Didn't even go in. I am not dealing with that... thing... unless it's life-or-death. And this is school. So I'm gonna drop english, pick up something else (Maybe art. :D) and life will continue with this being a mere speed bump in my existance. finire.

    Ok , this is creepy!

This is a demo of Vocaloid , Yamaha's singing synthetizer!

It's basically the same as a normal voice synthesizer but the design of course is centered around music.

It,s not perfect yet .. but imagine in a few years!

First time I heard the voice it creeped me out!

    I'm gonna strangle my sister!

Her overdownloading got our last internet usage report up to 34 GB for the month of July!!!

    WTF?!

We had to pay 7 dollars extra on the bill because of that .. it's stupid :(

And it almost fell on me because I'm often on my pc .. but most of what I do is read blogs and look up updates on art sites..

    Chargers and cable organization

A /. post asked how to organize their charging devices. Amidst the drek that /.'ers usually post (including jokes, jabs, complaints, and very complex instructions for technical solutions) someone posted a link to CallPod. They have several cool looking products, but the Chargepod is a great idea. Priced at 79.95USD, it is a six-device charge base sattion. It comes with six attachments (the website gives details and other connectors are also available under the title of "accessories") as well as a US power adapter and a car charger. They have a riddiculiously long list of compatible objects. While most of us just have a power strip (or two) with all the chargers attached, there are other ways to organize things. And some of them seem pretty self contained. But they all use a power bar or surge suppressor. Some are gaydar, but they only hold a few items.

I keep meaning to buy a few pieces of peg board and tie wrap not only the obsequious do-dads that little my desk (USB hub, various power bars, chargers, wireless hub, router, etc) to the board and then drop it down below the desk. I want to buy cable chaseways, but they're expensive; and I need to buy some more velcro tie wraps (reusable and easy to adjust unlike the plastic ones) to gather up the long cables in my office and hide them somewhere. I tried a lot of different things, but I'm starting to believe the best way to organize cables is to loop them up and put the loop on a hook screwed into the back of your desk. That way, if you need more cable, you can just unhook the loop, undo the velcro tie wrap, take out more cable, redo and rehook.

Figuring out how to get all the different sized plugs to fit neatly onto one power bar strip is beyond me.

    Tagged as recipes

Simply Recipes put up a Sloppy Joes recipe today. I use to love Sloppy Joes and this one looks so nice and thick. I'd have to replace the ketchup with tomato paste though (reduces the sugar), and I'd serve it on toast instead of hamburger buns; but it would make a great fall meal along with some white vinegar coleslaw (1/4 cup vinegar of choice, 2 tablespoons olive oil, pinch of salt, pinch of sugar).

    Death race is gay?

i09 pointed me to . I think the author is putting too much on a school-yard joke. And the shirts -- hey, one's sexuality is not always determinable by one's taste (or lack there of) in clothing. Besides, I saw the shirts more as symbolic of the place Machine Gun Joe wanted to be, rather than his sexuality. Still, AfterElton has it right - the movie is called Death Race, not happy puppies frolicking. The movie tag line is: Get ready for a killer ride.

    My short review:
An action-packed video game with movie lead-ins successfully turned into a
movie with slightly more dialog and less fowl-ups.

    That's it.
Up until six or so years ago, my weight was 150 lbs - on the dot, unchanging, day or night.

Then I had an accident while dancing (no other way), hurt my foot, healed slowly, hurt my other foot (not while dancing), healed slowly, cracked the bone on the big toe of my first foot (while dancing), healed very slowly.

Two years later, I was at 160 lbs, prety much constant.

For the last month, I've been up near 170 lbs.

ALL of it is in abdominal, visceral fat. Looking at it sideways unclothed (don't worry, only my doc will see the pics), it's frighteningly round and bulging forward. When putting on pants, the fat pushes forward - not quite loose enough to start falling in front of the waistband, but five more pounds will do that.

I'm not sleeping as well, I'm more tired all the time (more than usual), grouchy, listless, battling mild depression, and hoping this isn't a mid-life crisis on top of it.

This has to change. I already know I need the right proportion of cardiovascular (steady-state and interval) and resistance (free weights) exercices for my goal of losing fat while preserving muscle tone (as opposed to building muscle while minimising fat gain), but I would need a professional to establish that proportion, find a combination of exercices coupled with dietary checks, and monitor the whole over the year or so I'll need to start making a dent (go back to 160 lbs).

The big question of course is... where?? Any "weight loss" place is usually fraudulent and laughable, plus they're looking for much bigger weight losses - and any place selling their own dietary supplements or powders is suspect. I know I only need access to good exercice equipment and follow-up on dietary changes, but there's far too many choices of chaff to find any wheat to choose from.

At least I'm fairly certain that I can pay for this by eliminating most of my eating-out budget. Which is in itself very sad, and a contributing factor to the problem. (Though I'm glad pub food is very low on the list, most is Timmies and other sandwich places [rarely Subway] or soups - but pizza is far too high too often to my taste.)

If I eat a regular meal while a little tired and the digestion process 45 minutes later zonks me out to the point I have to sit in bed and sleep it off, it's a problem - it's not normal. It means I have too little available energy, or my regular energy output is near-zero and digestion accaparates it all with no overhead.

Suggestions, if only on where intelligent choices can be found, would be welcome. I'll also talk to my doctor Tuesday and this time try to impress on him that no, it's not "no big concern" anymore. We do have gym access at work for a very nice fee ($21/month) though they only have one each of the main machines, free weights and a few cardio cycle/elliptical/treadmill machines (which do little for me - I'll go on my actual bicycle or up and down real hills, thank you); if I can couple that with an intelligent and medically/scientifically sound health trainer (the gym only has fitness trainers), that may be all I need.

    America's Best vs. America's Future
Last night, I stayed up til almost 1am watching James Blake defeat Donald young in one of the greatest matches of the year, despite the fact that it was only in the first round of the U.S. Open.

After the first set, which Blake won 6-1, it looked like he would just steamroll over his opponent in straight sets. However, Blake got lazy in the second set, Young gained some confidence and he started playing more aggressively, winning the set 6-3. This was a wake-up call for Blake, who came back to win the third set, 6-1, though it was much closer than the score indicates.

As a big fan of James Blake ever since his epic match with Andre Agassi three years ago at this same tournament, I wanted to see him do well in this tournament since it is historically his best grand slam tournament. However, I couldn't help but be impressed by Donald Young, who is a former world #1 junior player. Coached by his father, the lefty turned pro at the age of 15, winning the Junior Championships at the Australian Open in 2005, the youngest male to ever do so. Two years later, Young won the Junior Championships at Wimbledon. Then, in last year's US Open, Donald Young advanced all the way to the third round, winning his first Grand Slam match at the age of 18, and improving his game since.

As the clock struck midnight, Blake and Young were exchanging blow for blow, Young chasing down shots he had no business getting to, Blake placing shots in the smallest of openings. Late in the fourth set, with Young up 5-4 and Blake serving, the announcers, the crowd, and myself came to the realiziation of "what if?" Could this 19-year-old knock out another top pro like he did to Tommy Haas earlier in the month? It became very clear that he possibly could as he won the fourth set and turned this first round match into his first 5-set match ever.

James Blake is the best athlete you have never heard of. The best African-American tennis player since his role model, Arthur Ashe, James' story is nothing short of inspirating. Early in his career, he tallied wins against many greats including Tommy Haas and Andre Agassi. However, during a practice in 2004, Blake suffered a broken neck. Later that year, he lost his father to cancer, and when he finally returned in 2005, his play has dropped considerably. Never giving up though, Blake fought his way through the Challengers circuit, re-entered the ATP tour, then put on the show of his career at that year's US Open, defeating the current world #1 Rafael Nadal, then Tommy Robredo, to face Andre Agassi in the quarterfinals in what many call the match of the century.

The two Americans kept the fifth set as close as possible, the server winning each of the first 8 games, bringing it to a 4-4 tie in the fifth set. Though finally, Blake was able to break Young, taking advantage of the youngster's fatigue and lack of experience in five-set matches, pumping his fists to the roaring crowd in Flushing, New York, home of his beloved New York Mets. Blake served his way to three straight points, the last one we won on a challenge, then finally securing the victory in his second match point, ending the nearly 3-hour marathon between the best tennis player in America and the 19-year-old gentleman who eventually will be.

    I hate when this happens!
So I've been on a transit forum for 3 years now and at the beginning it was fun because you could talk of stuff with people who were interested
in the same things as you and you could exchange your discoveries and everything.

But since the begining of the year there was an increase in the number of people working at the STM (The Montreal transportation commission)
on the forum and ti's not fun anymore. As SOON as you criticize in any way something that the employees do or that the STm does ,
IN COMES THE STM NAZIS telling you to shut up and basically trolling you till you stop posting.

A lot of the people I liked on the forum don't post anymore and it's becoming very annoying!

It would be like Uncle Kage trolling everything lj post that criticises the way AC is run sometimes.

Or Bush sending spam mail to anyone not voting for him.. it's stupid!

Instead of reacting like that to criticism they should learn from it .. no?

    Monday Morning Speed Linking
Things that make you go Oh Wonderful...
This morning, The Content Wrangler featured article titled U.S. Federal Government Silences Typo Spotters; Forces Them To Stop Encouraging Others. It's a story of woe, pitting the do-gooder (TEAL - the Typo Eradication Advancement League) against the nation-state. Naturally, the nation-state won. In the resulting decision, TEAL had to take down their website and stop their insidious hunt of typos across America. The nation deemed what they were doing was vandalism through defacement of public property. What the rest of us would define it as would be "correcting" public property. The source documents to this article (provided in the above-linked Content wrangler's story) caused much head shaking this morning. Hopefully, this is the kind of thing that would get thrown out of court in Canada, but you can never be too sure.

    You are a Firebender!

    Firebender

The first firebenders were taught by Dragons. To the Fire Nation, fire represented destruction and anger was central to firebending. True firebending involves balance, emotional stability and inner calm, as fire truly represents life. Firebending draws its power from the sun and is stronger during the day, strongest during Sozin’s comet which arrives every hundred years. Firebending is not possible during a solar eclipse.

Danny Michel is a talented artist who often sings and plays bits of music on his piano between discussions. I always think its cool when artists release things for free; I know you can't live on free (I've tried, it doesn't work). Still, everyone likes to receive presents.
BTW - I've used this statement alot "Free as in beer vs Free as in speech", but I never knew where it came from. Thanks to Wikipedia, now I do http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gratis_versus_Libre Free as in beer (gratis) vs Free as in speech (libertad, libre). Since the English language doesn't distinguish between the concepts of gratis and libertad - the statement is used to show the difference. Free software. Does that mean you don't have to pay for it (gratis), or that it's non-proprietary and you can muck with it as you please (libertad). It's starting to make more sense now; at least for me. :)

    A tiny blue ball
At work last week, I was meeting with 2 people from CEN (North Studies Center) and was asked to be their guide on the mining site.
I soon discover they are 2 biology professors from the university where I studied in biology as well. However, they weren't teaching back then because they are still young (35-37 years old). So it was very interesting to talk and find out about what's going on at Laval University and people working there.
Out of the blue, I ask them if they know a friend of mine who does his doctorate in part at Laval University. Indeed, one of them is actually his mentor for his thesis. So I tell him I helped my friend with his thesis by doing fieldwork with him in Zimbabwe for 1 month in 2007. That's when we find out we've been at the same place, helping out for the same project at Jwapi Lodge (a researcher's lodge) near Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe. He was there in may 2007 and I was there in june.
This planet really is tiny for me to host someone in the canadian arctic because of my job and find out we've been working with the same person in a remote region of Africa at a few weeks interval 18 months before.
I don't need to say it was great to meet him. We were also very fortunate to be "working" outside doing caribou habitat studies while a huge heatwave was going through the canadian arctic.

After meeting with this guy, I can't help but wonder... There's a lot of old friends, job and study partners I haven't seen in ages. Will there be a day when I come across their path once more on this tiny planet we walk upon ? :)

    Updated Bio
And just because I talk in the third-person in this bio does not make me egocentric. Thinking I'm the best poker player in the fandom does.

Exile Huscoon, aka Samuel H., was born on December 17, 1981 in St. Marys, Ohio. He grew up in Celina, Ohio, with his mother, a teacher, and his father, a Vietnam War veteran. Samuel was a middle child growing up with one younger brother and one older sister. While in school, Samuel was considered, year-in and year-out, to be one of the best math students in the region, winning district-wide awards in Math Ciphering, Math League, and regional awards in Math Counts. Samuel constantly finished in the top 1% nationally in the mathematics sections of standardized tests.

Throughout his youth, Samuel took part in many extra-cirricular activities including soccer, football, and Spanish club. At the age of 12, he started playing dartball, a version of darts that is scored like baseball, for his church. He quickly became the team captain, helping the team win two Tournament championships and a South Division championship. His favorite pasttime was baseball, a sport he played through his junior year of high school.

At the age of 14, he got his first job as a little league umpire for the local recreation department. Later that fall, he started officiating youth soccer as well.

In June 2000, Samuel graduated from Celina High School. In February 2001, he attended and graduated from Harry Wendelstedt School for Umpires and became certified to officiate professional baseball. In October 2004, Samuel attended and graduated from Vantage Career Center Truck Driving School, earning his Class A Commercial Driver License. After which, he worked as a contracted recreational vehicle transporter for Hoosier Transit for over 4 years.

Samuel is currently enrolled as a student at The Ohio State University, Lima, planning on majoring in Mathematics. He also works seasonal jobs as a football official for youth, junior high, and high school levels and a baseball umpire with 8 years of high school experience, having umpired at the college level as well as many high school-level tournaments.

Samuel has never been married and has no children. His family has an Airedale Terrier named Reagan and a long-haired Persian named Kate.
