    DragonCon survived
I still haven't caught up on all the sleep I skipped at con, because I returned home to extended work shifts. As soon as I get rest, though, I've got some amazing stories to blog about. My all-time favorite artist declared me an "Elmore girl." The Firefly cast awarded me some awesome memorabilia. At the ConSluts party, there was whipped cream and boobies, and I won porn and vibrators. I got a modeling job offer and may star in a comic book... Don't pinch me; I don't want to wake up from this dream.

I have 60 pics to clean up and post. I just hope I can post them before Hurricane Ike hits. Ike's a Cat 4 already, and if he has his way he'll hit southern Florida as a major hurricane. It's still too early to tell if he'll hit the eastern, southern, or southwestern coast, though, or suddenly turn north and miss us altogether. I'll try to keep you all updated.

In Memoriam: New York City, 9/11/01 – FILM

Former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani narrates the experience of September 11, 2001, in this documentary created for HBO in 2002, drawing upon eyewitness interviews, extraordinary photography and video footage, and unprecedented access to City Hall. Footage collected for In Memoriam was donated to the Museum of the City of New York 9/11 Archive, with generous support from AOL/Time Warner.

My photos from 9/11 appear in this documentary.

    Hong Kong, SAR
So after eight years away from these green hills ... when I started this LJ account at an internet cafe on Central/ Downtown HK, I am back and will be here through my bday at the end of the week.

A story about my original trip here from 2000, forthcoming.

And the story of how I ended up here this time around - which for those familiar with the original story, will find familiar echos in the tale.

    Until then ...

P.S. - [info]kenshi, I need your mailing addy, since I missed your epic birthday bash in the Emerald City and need to send you your belated kudos.

Trailer to the Tortoise in Tokyo Movie
And whoever said I sucked at titles? Haha! Proof!

I spent a good half hour trying to choose the right blog to post this in (I have like, 4 journals, different audience, all regularly updated). I spent several minutes more trying to collect my thoughts... in vain.

I didn't go to work today because my colds are that bad. All day I downed juice and water and had Lagundi cough syrup. I had lots and lots of bed rest. I couldn't taste my food properly. (temporary anosmia due to stuffy nose? LOL! But it does happen.) It even hurts when I breathe.

I lay in bed, hoping that I would be well when I wake up tomorrow, well enough to go to work, well enough to jog this weekend. I remembered that we weren't able to jog last Saturday because I was sick, and so I wasn't able to ask him for updates about his application to Japan. He once told me of his backup plan in case he doesn't make it. It didn't sound pretty good. So I silently wished that he'd make it to Tokyo University. I know he'll be really happy when that happens.

Almost instantly after that wish, my phone beeped. And I received a message from him. He said that he actually PASSED! He got admitted to Todai! It's freakin' TODAI!

It was like, whut, personal record for fastest wish every granted.

It took a while for that to sink in. It means that he'll really be leaving this April. He'll be fulfilling his dream. I'm sure he'll do fine. He's one of those people who can entertain himself (by graphing in his mind the relationships of things around him. Geek), so maybe he'd have less trouble with loneliness. Besides, I remember Mombushu scholars are allowed to bring family members. I think he's planning on having his mom come visit.

I also remember food being real expensive in Japan. There are no Ellens' or LB Square or *insertrandomelbitapsilogplacehere* there. And he can't cook! I hate to think that he'll be living the cup noodles diet all his 3 years there (or maybe the 7-11/Lawson Bento diet, but even that's quite expensive). I hope he doesn't leave the gas leaking or something. So whose gonna smell for him there?

I also wish he learns the language fast. Otherwise, he'll probably turn Hikkikomori real quickly. Hehe. Maybe there are Filipinos there too. Maybe they can cook for him, invite him to dinner so he can have some protein and some people to interact with.

I have to teach him to use Y!M. Yes, the poor dude doesn't bother with it, not because he's technologically-inept but because... he just doesn't bother with it. Or maybe I'll send him some tuna from here. Hehe, I know, it's not tunay na pagkain. Dugsh. Hee~ I wonder if he's bringing the shark pillow Pirry gave him. It might come in handy.

Maybe he'll go to one of AKFG/L'arc/insertrandomband's live. Maybe he'll be able to watch un-subbed anime when he comes back. Maybe his hair will grow back thicker in Japan. Maybe he'll meet a nice Japanese girl and they'll fall in love and live happily ever after.

    Maybe not.

Maybe I'll miss him. I just might.

    There is a secret message.
Dig in the tombs and you might find it.
Hidden here inside these words are worlds.
Be not fraught or contested because not finding is not without absence.
We by seeking engage in a world without immediate external value.
Dig in the secret in these words.
Engage in the words hidden here.

    It is necessary.
Not moving or making the choice always impedes ones movement more than choosing and moving.
Move and choose move and choose and live.

    Good Deed
I was just shaking out some rugs on the back porch when I saw a moving truck cream a parked car, exactly like ours got creamed back in the spring. So I calmly walked into our house, grabbed a pen and a couple of pieces of paper and went out and wrote down the company and license plate number. Then I told the couple that hit it that we'd been through a similar hit this spring but the driver had fled the scene without leaving us any way to contact him. I told them that I expected them to do the right thing and leave a note for the owner of that car (or I would), then I handed them a pen and another piece of paper. Apparently I'm turning into the patron saint of parked cars.

I will be a good person, even if no one else will. I will be a good person, even in those instances where it would be easier to look the other way and pretend you didn't see anything. I will be, I swear it.

We never did catch the perpetrator of our second hit and run and now have to eat the damages ourselves, so if I can spare anyone else that kind of stress and financial hardship, it is well worth it.

Plus, like I said, people really need to be responsible for their actions.

Хорошесть лета я меряю платьями, которые удалось надеть. Это лето было определенно хорошее. Но может следующее будет еще лучше? Пока, лето, ты исполнило все мои мечты и даже чуть больше, чем я загадывала.

Dehumanized to be forced to serve.
Only when we dehumanize another person or segregate them will we be extremely cruel
    to another human.
Only when the other person is considered diminutive or different.
Our differences are not so great that we should act in either of these veins.
Freedom is more than a word it is an expression a movement.
Roaming questioning questing working to an end that provides equality.
Everyday with a little work we get closer to a moving target.
Everyday we run faster just to be in the same place and if we move faster than that we move forward..
