Okay, I upgraded. But. We need a steady stream of donations or we will make it a paying site.
And I don't want to make it a paying site because the point of this place was that it be a free place to the public.

I just discovered that the database is down. How long has it been down?
At this point, I am not sure how long it will be before it is back up.
This is the deal. We are squeezing through on barely enough power to run the site in order to afford the host.
I've looked into a ton of different hosts and they all require $250 + to run the place sufficiently. We currently pay $150/mo
The more people viewing the site at once, the more often this will occur unless we get more donations. If I upgrade the site to run faster and allow more people on, it will cost $100 additional a month. Right now I am paying $150/mo (except last month they charged me $595 so that took out a chunk of donations we already had).

We have too many lurkers at the moment. The number of hits we get is seriously large. And I am closing the forum to lurkers at the moment.
And if you have not signed into the forum in the last 365 days, I deleted your account. I also deleted everyone who was in limbo (who had not verified their account and couldn't sign in anyway)
There will probably be some changes coming soon.
And does anyone know anything about how to run/build databases in ORACLE? It's a database similar to MySQL.

As you can see, we had a problem with the database last night. I'm working to see what we can do to fix it since we are now on a new server and things just don't work like they did before, so no easy fix that I can see.
But I would like to know what time it went down if anyone can give me an approximate, that would be appreciated.

Sometime tomorrow, www.modelhommes.com will go directly to the forum. I will be changing it to a new domain (or the old one if I can get it back) at some point and putting up a new, slightly redesigned main page in the next month or so.
I removed the trojan and fixed some glitches. So that means:
no. more. virus.
Now I'm gonna go to sleep.

It's working.
Adam said that the site doesn't have a virus. It's sort of like a remnant of the big bang. You can still see it but it's not functional.
There is a defunct trojan script that is on the site, JS/Wonka. Well, it's is not the actual virus. It is the script which tries to redirect you to the site with the virus. Since it's missing all the components but the basic script, which is embedded deeply within a (currently) unknown vb file, it's just going to take some time to get rid of it.
I'm working on deleting that. But there is nothing on the site now that will infect you. And it's been secured.

I'm turning the site off. Please don't use it. I have messed something up.
I was so excited last night and I was too tired and I screwed something up.
I'm sorry. This is just driving me insane. I feel like a bloody moron. This is just really difficult for me because of the pressure to get this site up. You guys aren't pressuring me, I'm pressuring myself. This is important to me. And I'm frustrated that someone could do something like this after all the years we've put into it.
But I can't see posts now.
I almost feel like starting from scratch I'm so upset with stuff going wrong.

O MY HOLY COW! 
Okay, this guy, ADAM at VERIO just did the whole site for me in ONE HOUR and he was just a regular old tech dude! I swear to God. The site is up and running.
Just doesn't have a domain name but sometime in the next day it will be able to be temporarily accessed by simply going to modelhommes.com
I'm having it temporarily sent there.
So, what I need to do is have people go to: http://199.238.178.174/ till the modelhommes.com dns gets pointed in the right direction.
THE POSTS AREN"T SHOWING UP. SORRY.
And if you see ANY virus at all, tell me. I'll close the place down and search for it. We'll get rid of it. Adam thinks it could possibly have been stuck on the old server. We'll see.

The site will not be up for a while. The people I went with told me it would take 7 hours to migrate it. The original server people told me it would only take an hour. So I'm not sure what the hell is up with this.
Whatever. That is $150 an hour for seven hours. That would cost us $1050.00 I think not.
So I will be doing the thing myself. And I have to work all next weekend. So I can't guarantee it will be up for a while. I'm sorry.

Okay. I've got a little more news. I've just paid my new host and additional $450 to move the site and do a virus check, etc, etc. unforunately, it is more than I can put into my bank account so I have to pay for it until October 1.
WE STILL NEED DONATIONS.
But once this is done, we are going to see if we can make it on a $150/mo server! So YAY!!!! That is over $100 less a month than the old host.
We obviously still have a virus there. The virus that tries to download automatically is one called js/wonka. I found this today when I accessed the site via it's IP address.
I think the site might be up this weekend or monday.

I will keep you updated, obviously. I've changed hosts. It will cost $450 and we have about $500 in our account.

If you want to donate and cannot do it using paypal (this is absolute best and can be set up in conjunction with your bank account) then please email me at the same email address and we can see what options we can work out.
I will be getting a separate bank account for modelhommes sometime this month so we can do bank transfers (if they do not threat security)
We can move hosts as much as we want but we need to pay for the following months, which at this point look like the monthly charges will be less than they were before.

The registrar has locked the domain name and I think we still have it. Lets hope all is okay and I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything.
Regarding the site itself. I am going to be moving hosts. I want to go with a good, reputable company as both registrar and host.
This will cost a bit, initially, so any donations are welcome. But after that the monthly payments might be less. Depends on what we need done.
But we will get the site back.

The bastard has hacked into the dnsnameservers and rerouted the site from us. I'm working on it with the registrar but if that is the case, we might lose everything if they can't get it back. I can, however, guarantee that if someone did this over at GQ, that they would get it back :)
(lets not ponder that this would never have happened at GQ *bag*)

I know I said the forum was back up. But people are saying they still see some virus related issues when they are there. As far as I can tell, it's not infecting computers.
But I'm going to go through all the files and see what I can find and while I'm at it, I'm going to upgrade the entire forum. That should take care of everything. Hopefully.
BUT DO NOT OPEN THE EMAIL THAT SAYS "For security!" and is from admin@modelhommes.com
I apologize for all this but there was a security breach on our server end and a hacker implanted a virus.

They took over the domain name now.
This is a problem that was propagated through the server. Their other customer, http://fwooshnet.com also had this happen to them.
I'm not sure what we can do about this. I asked them to save the database. I couldn't back it all last night because kept shutting me down (it would freeze everything).

The tech people took pity on me and are pulling an emergency night shift XD That or my rant about the 24/7/365 service being non existent made some leeway.
So we are working on it. I'm into cpanel. They are erasing the hackers accounts.
Good news is we have the database intact! Bad news is it still doesn't work. BUT that is all I care about. Our lovely lovely forum is still there. Somewhere. We may lose a little or a lot. Still not sure. Might be awhile before I can get in to get all the security stuff done and before we are up and running but we'll be up and running again.

First of all, don't download ANY .exe programs under ANY circumstances. Don't go to the site, either, I hear people are having problems with that as well.
I've heard from the server folks. They can't do anything until tomorrow. I will be gone from 10am to 4pm tomorrow.
Thing is that I don't know if we'll get it back. Worst case scenario is that we will lose about six months of work. Lets hope for the best, though XD
