Cook on "high"
This recipe calls for some unusual ingredients.

If you don't want to follow the link, here is the list of ingredients for Rachel Ray's Tomato and Basil Pizza, as found on Yahoo!:

1 (15 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for coating
1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
1 pound supermarket's refrigerator or freezer section, divided into 4-ounce pieces
2 cups shredded Mozzarella
1 bunch basil

Not surprisingly, I'm not the only one to have noticed this, as evidenced by the comments section.

Those freezer sections are kinda tough to chew.

yeah you're right. You're better off with those 4 ounce pieces of refrigerator sections. Don't mind the freon.

Hooray for lazy stupid people who copy and paste recipes and miss key words. Also hooray for yahoo who encourages it. For those of you curious, the real recipe can be found here: Grilled Tomato-Basil Pizza. The correct ingredient?

1 pound pizza dough from your favorite pizza shop or supermarket's refrigerator or freezer section, divided into 4 equal pieces

At least the second change was still correct, 1lb = 16oz, so 4 equal pieces of 1lb = 4oz. each.

Just make sure it's fresh. You're already eating freezer parts, then you don't want to be eating old freezer parts.

So... do I strain the motor oil off the back, or is that part of the seasoning? Also, if I wanted to remove the copper wiring to sell for scrap, would that detract from the overall bouquet of the pizza?

I don't understand why recipes like this exist in the first place. Recipes for pizzas and sandwiches and things like that. If it had some special crust I could understand, but it just says use whatever crust you want? That's not a recipe!

Why doesn't it just say "Make a pizza, but put some crushed tomatoes and basil on it!" "Make a turkey sandwich with focaccia instead of white bread and sliced avocados." I see so many recipes that could be rewritten in a sentence. Do people actually need recipes for sandwiches?

The pizza one makes some sense- if you're not making pizza often, you might not know how much of the toppings to buy, the cooking temperature, or even what's the best way to layer whatever it is that's on the pizza.

And the sandwich one could be justified, if it was for making lots of sandwiches- "This is how much turkey you will need. These are how many avocados."- or maybe if it had some special technique- like the ones where you hollow out a French loaf and fill it with meat and the like.

But mostly, pizza and sandwiches don't need recipes.

Why is everybody resorting to store-bought freezer sections. I prefer the homemade variety. It's much healthier and isn't treated with pesticides.

I saw something similar on the BBC website some time ago. The recipe was clearly a modified copy+paste, but hadn't been modified enough. It told you to turn the oven on, but none of the method called for use of the oven. So it was telling you to turn the oven on just for fun, it seemed.

My mum is American and wanted to show British people what devilled ham is.
So she got out her trusty Betty Crocker cookbook, only to find the 'recipe' began "Take one can devilled ham"...

I bought my own BC some years back but it's not nearly as good as my mum's 1950s one - almost all the recipes call for pre-packaged goods of some kind.
Sorry Betty, you lose to Delia.

That's also why I collect old cookbooks.

[*To devil ham, you grind or chop it finefinefine and mix with not too much butter, some onion (also ground or grated fine), a dab of mustard, and enough black pepper. (I add some smoked paprika, which while not in the original recipe does give it a bit of a kick.)]

These recipes always have just one thing that you'd never get in your local grocer or have around the house! Like a pinch of saffron, some galangal, a spoonful of vanilla sugar, okra, or a pound of freezer section.
