I was wondering who the guests for 2009 were gonna be?  

The title says it all.

I'm glad to be back with my friends and family. Best of all, I don't have to hop on a plane and leave in a few days!

I loved seeing everyone at MOBICON XI and visiting with the guests (when I could). Despite illness and injury, hubby and I had a wonderful time and we can't wait for next year!

Don't forget pre-registration deadline is today, May 1. If you are mailing in, it must be post-marked by today, or you can call me at 251/662-5958 and pay your $35 pre-reg by credit card and email in your reg form (I'll have to email you a copy that can be filled out online).

MOBILE -- Mobicon, Mobile's only science fiction/fantasy/gaming/anime/comic book convention, is pleased to be raising funds for the Bay Area Food Bank, a subset of America's Second Harvest.

As part of our charitable endeavors, we are sponsoring a Canned Food War at this year's convention. Fan groups and individuals are invited to bring canned goods to represent their side of the battle. The theme for this year's contest is “Stargate vs. Star Trek.” Two main containers will be placed at the lobby near the registration table, where fans can select their preference of container for items. At the end of the weekend, food items will be counted, and the container with the largest number of food units will be selected as champion. All items will then be donated to the Bay Area Food Bank.

Mobicon will be held May 16-18 at the Ashbury Hotel and Suites. For more information about registration or convention events, please visit our website at http://www.mobicon.org.

ETA: If you're interested in contributing to the Bay Area Food Bank and cannot attend Mobicon, the organization has a GroundSpring account for secure donations here. Please contribute if you're inclined to do so - they're still recovering from their stores being wiped out by Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina.

MOBILE – Mobicon, Mobile's sci-fi, fantasy, comic, anime and gaming convention, will be held May 16-18 at the Ashbury Hotel and Suites, 600 West I-65 Service Rd. S.

Media guests for this year's event include actor/writer/director Colin Cunningham (“Stargate SG-1,” “Elektra,” “Andromeda,” “CSI: Miami,”), paranormal investigator Patrick Burns (“Haunting Evidence”), and podcasters/producers David Beauchamp and Rich Sigfrit (Mr. Adventure podcast). Attending authors are Jim Butcher (The Dresden Files series), Sharon Green (The Terrillian series, The Blending series), and Aruda Hanna-Wilson (Seadreams).

Artist guests include Mark Poole, comic book artist Bryan King (“NeoRealms”), and Debbora Wiles (Integrity Publishing). Local horror hosts Nightmare Theatre and cosplayer/podcaster Ana Aethestic (“Radio Sci Fi”) will also attend. Lynn and Bill Lars-Ruffin (Those Damn Pixies) will be honored as fan guests for the weekend.

Among the many weekend activities are autograph and book signings, an art show and sale, panel and group discussions, anime and movie screenings, gaming rooms, a canned food drive and competition and a costume competition. Kid Con, designed for children's activities, will be held from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Friday, 10:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Partial proceeds from Mobicon 11 will benefit the Bay Area Food Bank, a subsidiary of America's Second Harvest.

Registration is $40 after May 1 and includes admittance to all convention events. Special rates are available for groups, seniors and children.

  I'm looking for crash space for Mobicon.  I have transportation but no place to stay.  My ride is arriving on Thursday night and we're leaving Sunday.  Can anyone help out please?  I admit to being somewhat strapped financially but will help out with the room a bit if you can help me.

It's nine hours by plane from Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany to Baltimore International Airport in Maryland. Then, I have to catch a plane to Atlanta and finally another to Mobile. Two days of travel, jet lag, a pinched nerve in my back; what IS it that brings me back year after year?

MOBICON.

MOBICON is the family of my choice. These are the wonderful people who not only come together once a year in a frenzy of fandom for charity, these are the people who have been here for my husband and I during some of the hardest times of our lives over the past few years. From hurricanes to heart attacks, my MOBICON family has been a bulwark of love and support that I know I can always count on through good and bad.

Thank you all for a wonderful weekend! MOBICON X was spectacular and I can't wait to see you all again next year!

Thank you to everyone who helped decorate for the Debutante of the Dead Ball, came out to dance with us, participated in Kiss For a Rose and helped make it more fun than is allowed in the state of Nevada!
