The Alopekus event this last weekend went well. We started by just socializing around the yard and finishing little projects. a new helm was padded, some armour was distributed, weapons repaired and made etc. Then we went into fighting, we picked up three newcomers (of course we will see if they ever actually call back or follow through) and then we had a javelin throwing competition. That was actually pretty fun ! Two of my spartans definatly beat me out of that game! This is where we kinda broke a little from the spartan theme but oh well...things degenerated with a run to the liquor store and Chipotle for burritos. Then we socialized some more, watched some SCA video and then..well... Zombie movies. But it was fun. In our defense we DID watch some ancient history vids the next day. |

32 Music Meme It's making the rounds, again... Stolen from my evil twin, sylvan... Put your music player on random. Post the first line from the first 32 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song. Let everyone guess what song and artist the lines come from. Bold the songs when someone guesses correctly. Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING! Why not - on a lunch break anyways.. Rules: A) People who have been tagged may write their answers on their blogs & replace any question that they dislike with a new question formulated by themselves.
B) Tag eight people to do this quiz. These people then state who they were tagged by (I was tagged by carolinescastle) and shouldn't tag the person whom they were tagged by, that'd just be silly. Although I suppose if you change a question you can ask them to answer that, but they don't count towards your eight. Eight is a maaaaaaaaagic number.
01. MONKEYS!!! (there was no question so monkeys I say) Um question- Who is one person from your past that you miss the most? From my past - I would say my uncle Talakashi. He was a great person with a smile always on his face and a love of life that was unmatched.
02. What clothes are you wearing at the moment? green poloshirt, cargo shorts, brown belt and tennis shoes - what can I say, I dress professionally to work.
03. What did you recently finish? DDL for a weighted average cost of goods sold technical specification document, though I am mostly through my lunch.
04. What is your favorite scent? The ocean - and moms cooking.
05. What books are you reading at the moment? The Idiot, and lots of tech manuals.
06. If it wouldn't hurt your chances in the job market would you get a tattoo on your hands, front of your neck, or on your face? Not a fan of tattoos
07. Do you trust easily? Yes - but if that is ever broken, i don't fix it.
08. How are you act around people you have a crush on? Depends how well I know them, if I know them real well - I am overly flirtatious, otherwise, I'm pretty shy.
09. What did you want to be when you grew up? Movie director
10. Do you have a good body-image? Nope, but I'm working on that.
11. Do you have a LJ crush? Sure
12. What websites do you visit daily? facebook, lj, digg and google
13. Random pet peeve? People who have an undeserved sence of superiority.
14. What kind of person do you think the person who tagged you is? Caring and amazing.
15. What's the last song that got stuck in your head? Handlebars by flowbots
16. What's your favorite item of clothing? currently, my comfy Mr Happy shirt. I have great memories associated with it now :-)
17. What's better: to give or to receive? Give
18. What turns you on in your preferred gender(s)? Trust and intelligence.
19. Is there anything you want so bad right now? Yes.
20. What should you be doing right now? Working on that aforementioned tech spec.
21. What would you rather be doing now? Working on my own projects.
And I'm tagging... elfgirlgamanda, kaffine23, kenziepuppy, snowraven143, stuckintraffik |

Another one of my articles is up at Gamegrene: Choose Your Own Adventure.Of the many topics of conversation that recur among gamers, tales of bad GMs of games gone by is one of the most popular. Most of us have experienced at least one of the classics: the killer D&D DM who seemed to delight in throwing PCs up against unkillable monsters and unsolvable puzzles, the GURPS GM whose lack of creativity turned the game into to a death march of random encounters, the World of Darkness ST so enamored with the doings of his badass NPCs that the PCs never got the chance to shine. While all bad GMs are unique in their own frustrating ways, what many people don't realize is that most of them have one crucial thing in common: They don't allow players to make meaningful choices with the potential to change the course of the game...As always, I welcome comments either here or at Gamegrene. I had a fun weekend and a good show at Pagan Pride despite being ridiculously tired throughout it for some unknown reason. Maybe a few months of 6-7 hours of sleep a night is finally beginning to wear me down. Unfortunately that is not likely to get better anytime soon so I'd better just hope that I can get completely accustomed to it. Anyway, it was really nice to have a couple days of just doing pagan-y things and focusing on that aspect of myself, and it made me feel a lot better about all these religious issues I've been having and sort of break through a bunch of blockages. So that was good. Music-wise, I sold a bunch of CDs at Pride, and am also in the process of booking a couple of very exciting shows within the next few months. More details on that as I get them. For now, it should be enough to know that the Player Characters are performing another electric show at the St. Paul Eagles Club on Friday, October 17 at 11:30 p.m. I know it's ridiculously late, and I'm sorry; we're trying to get away from stuff like that but didn't manage it this time. Still, if you wanna come out, cover is $5 and the venue is a wonderful divey space with exceedingly cheap beer and good people. We'd love to see you there. Right, and with that I should get to work of some variety... Current Mood: calm |

update time Gah! I've been a bad LJ Friend lately! Bloody few comments and posts, I know, I know.
But I still love y'all!!
Pretty major lifestyle change for me, lot less time online. What little time I have OL is mostly at TheColonialFleet and 300DC (This... Is... SPARTA!!!)
Quit Netflix, quit cable, quit casual dating, quit eating out, quit being a talk radio junkie, (mostly) quit drinking, completely quit the "drinking lifestyle."
I'm working out at least an hour every day (Yay! P90X! Yay!) and believe it or not, I'm loving it. Well, mostly. There are times I don't love it, but I forget about that when I'm done. Then I love it again.
For record keeping purposes, I'm going by my bathroom scale, even though I happen to know for a fact it reads about 3 pounds high. On that scale, I weighed 215 today, which means I actually weighed about 212 today, which is the lowest I've been since I quit varsity swimming in 11th grade. I also got rid of all the bloat I gained in the two months before Dragon*Con (yeah, I looked like shit, I know) and am on the verge of needing a brand new hole in my belt so my work pants stay up.
Among my goals for the year (measured in between Dragon*Cons for 300DC) is to be below 200 pounds again. Tony Horton says goals are important and I agree. Tony Horton is also a total bastard and I want to punch him. But I love Tony Horton and I need him.
All in all, things are well. Late night, come home. Work sucks, I know. |

Pain in the Back What a day. Not in a bad way, but the back pain that I've had for the last 3 days really turned nasty last night as I refereed the Vanguard game. It's in the lower, left quadrant of my back and really, REALLY becomes incapacitating if I twist, slightly, as I move. Pulling out a chair in the kitchen with my left arm, for example, nearly floored me. The thing is, my back -as I write this, and as it's been each morning for the last few days- feels fine. This, I feel, has nothing to do with the Vicaden or the extra-strength TYLENOL I've been taking. Rather, I think it comes from lying horizontally for 8 hours, allowing my back to heal slightly. Sitting up for extended periods, perhaps regardless of the chair, slowly brings the problem to the foreground. I'm not sure why but I've also been having nasty nightmares for the past 3 nights and I've also been waking up with a headache, each morning thereafter. The one I got this morning is coming back, now, after a hot, concentrated shower banished it around 6:30am. I'm out getting breakfast, timing how long I can remain up and about before my back starts getting to me, again. I'll see what I can do about seeing my doctor this coming week, but -really- I'm not sure what he can do. The last time I had this problem, I was put on muscle relaxers for my back and Vicaden, the latter of which I seemed to have an allergic reaction to (my back developed a rash and blisters, but that could have been due to a couple other factors, as well). Anyway, despite all this, I had a good day yesterday. The game went swimmingly with some splendid role playing by just about everyone! They're nearing the End Game and, really, I'm feeling a small amount of pride in it. Well, I won't bore anyone with details; I'm going to simply work on not being in pain, enjoying some eggs benedict down at Wilde Roast, and doing some writing before heading off to Misfits of Gaming at Noon. Bleh... Man, this cold is still kicking my butt.... but then again, it's not really the stuffy ness and crap that's wearing me out this time, it's this bloody cough... ugh!!! But, I guess another thing adding to it is that I'm working today, then add on the fact that I'm on call.... Urkburgles! I'm gonna get so burnt out if I'm not careful. [....er.. like I'm NOT already there... ] *sigh* But, Furmeet this afternoon. Cause of how bleh I feel, not sure how long I will stay. In other news, the office I work at is going to be moving. I get to add an extra 10 mintues to my morning commute. Yay! *sarcasm* *shrugs* Whatever I guess.. But, perhaps if I keep nudging them a bit, I'll get to work from home. Sounds like the remote setup will be easier with the new phone system we're getting. Gods, if I could just do that for 2 days a week now... save me moola on da fuels. October snuck up on me too. o_O I has a buncha stuff to get done before November hits. Gleep! New Furnace, and my A/C unit went in last week. I must say, compared to the old furnace, the new one is UBER tiny, but heats much betters than the other one! Toasty! =P Then close to the end of the month, begining of November, my new windows go in. =) Geeze... I'll have like... a brand new house - almost - with all the projects goings ons. Now! Just to get organized so I can... FIND everything. =P Mmn.. Yeh Current Mood: okay |

Crusing around the lake.... Yesterday I took the boat out for the last time of the year. It goes into storage come Monday when I take it to my Grandparents for storage. I'll be on my last time on a boat of any kind on Monday as I plan on getting out for a few hours before work with Grandpa and use my Wisconsin Licence for only the third time this year. Wow that photography job took a chunk out of my "normal" summer... Anyways: What time I did have out fishing this year on my own boat, limited as it was I got some incredible pictures. Especially on my last night out which left me happy that in spite of it being a crummy day fishing wise, I made up with it with some incredible shots that will hopefully sell as prints someday. So lets get on with another photo post: ( An ode to summer in Photos: Around the lake... ) Current Mood: accomplished |

Tack on another $700 billion. So let's recap.
The banks are in good shape, they're paying off their debts. Your taxes are going to increase so you can pay for the banks to be in good shape. Then the banks are going to continue to demand money for your house. When you can't pay, they'll foreclose on it and you'll STILL get to pay higher taxes so those banks can continue to be in good shape. Aren't you lucky.
Good thing we have representatives in the government to stop shit like this...What's that? Our reps are still completely and totally out of touch with the people they're representing? Oh we're so fucked.
"We need some more money. Start up the printing press!" Where have I heard this before? Eh, it was probably from a long time ago and not relevant now anyways.

Costuming help? For this Halloween, I am looking to dress as a Starfleet officer, circa 2265-2270, command division. I'm wondering if anybody can help me figure out the following: 1) Where do I find the right boots to go with the uniform? 2) How can I get a phaser and communicator to stick to the uniform? I know that they used velcro on the series; does anybody have any better ideas? 3) Where can I get good patterns for the uniform? Thank you all in advance! Cross-posted several places.
