Class, 8/26
Caption contest! My entries would be "What I Missed By Not Going To Class", although I think I like "One Of These Is Not Like The Other" better. :) There's also something to be said for "Wait This Is Before Fall Rush? Seriously?". ;) | | Sunday, November 16th, 2008 | 2:09 pm [rhean] |

Recent Berkeley Dojo Visit
At the request of rhean, I thought I'd join the blogosphere and post a few details about my visit to the Berkeley Isshinryu dojo last Wednesday. Sensei Daniel Heath was out of town, but Senseis Justin, Don, and Brendan were there to lead a class of ~10-12 students (including me). Class was from 7-9pm (just like ours), and the itinerary included: warmup, partner work on bunkai for the beginning of seisan, and some slow freeform sparring (using hand techniques only). It was very intriguing to see how this club performed their versions of charts (including a crunching roundhouse kick to the front, open hand palm heel block roundhouse punch x2 from seisan dachi, and open hand side block followed by a shuto strike to the throat, among others). I also picked up some interesting new warmup exercises, as well. All of the senseis and students were extremely nice and accommodating, and it was really a terrific experience. Any further q's I'd be happy to answer in class! | | Thursday, July 3rd, 2008 | 5:03 pm [rhean] |

No class on Saturday
Reminder! no class tomorrow. The weather's supposed to be nice, so it's an excellent chance to practice outdoor kata and see if the walls/mirrors/room corners are an unconscious crutch. I just tried a bit of chinto a few weeks ago on a camping trip, and OOF do I unconsciously rely on four corners in a room! Maybe we should book Kiva or some other architectural monstrosity of a room for practice someday. | | Tuesday, June 10th, 2008 | 11:01 pm [rhean] |

I need side quest music!
Banks-sensei lent me his copy of Javier Martinez's The Secret Art of Tuite. I'm only a quarter of the way through, but really excited by his ideas! Sadly, it looks like the two best bets to obtain this book are either the $150 copy from the sketchy Amazon re-seller, or 30 pounds + postage + begging the UK seller to sell out of country. I'm attempting to create option #3: write to Sensei Martinez directly as the front of the book suggests and ask him if he has any more copies. *crosses fingers and looks for wood to bash the @#$! out of* ( And now... mind-bending naihanchi! ) | | Sunday, June 1st, 2008 | 11:56 pm [rhean] |

H-pattern Kata
We have many gigs of video beyond the compressed stuff that goes on YouTube. Suggestions on what to do with it? Put it on an external drive and/or burn to DVD? post the lossy version and throw away the full version? ( H-Pattern Kata ) |
