The Orange

By Wendy Cope

At lunchtime I bought a huge orange
The size of it made us all laugh.
I peeled it and shared it with Robert and Dave—
They got quarters and I had a half.

And that orange it made me so happy,
As ordinary things often do
Just lately. The shopping. A walk in the park
This is peace and contentment. It's new.

The rest of the day was quite easy.
I did all my jobs on my list
And enjoyed them and had some time over.
I love you. I'm glad I exist.

Today reaffirmed my belief that life can be utterly blissful. I fucked up my chamber music audition and it was STILL a beautiful day. I hope I never forget this feeling. Classes start tomorrow!

Maybe you'll never understand because you're different.

I'm listening to the clot. People talk and talk and seem to have lived such cool motherfucking lives. Adventures in *insert foreign culture here*, near-death experiences, random witty observations, everyone laughs and enjoys with you because your stories are just that awesome. Everyone here talks like such an experienced storyteller, always ready to entertain and enlighten. Oh please keep talking, we're just all dying for you to never shut up.

As always my mind is blank, and because of this my body may as well be blank as well because nobody sees me, speaks to me, or otherwise acknowledges me. I'm not sure why I freeze like this in a crowd which doesn't notice me; I know that when facing one person who's paying attention I can fare just fine.

In the meantime, I'm so sick of not feeling cool enough. I don't have exciting stories to entertain you with. Everyone must hate me because I am so fucking boring.

Sep. 2nd, 2008 @ 02:56 am Day 1 of Ramadan or Pineapple for suhoor is a BAD idea

Today was the first day of Ramadan. So in preparation for it, I set my alarm for 3:30-ish. I woke up at 4:30, dawn's at 4:44. T_T
So, I shuffled over to the kitchen, grabbed a can of pineapple (the type you get a LaVerdes), ate, then went back to sleep.
The only reason I got up again due to Joyatee calling my room phone to tell me I was late for desk. Then I attempted to work on my UROP and failed, attempted to study and failed, attempted to nap and failed, etc. All of the above was done under the mother of all migraines.
Am now fed and sleepy. Thus I will sleep.

I just watched Michelle and Barack's speeches. Consequently my life seems a bit unimportant, but I am at MIT and trying to stay optimistic. I'm excited for my classes and for the future, for election day and for my own graduation.

I will try to write an entry later, though I had to send my beloved laptop in for repairs and am typing this on my phone. MIT is an exciting place to be, but even more so is America. Maybe there actually is hope. The Obamas make me believe again.

Also I got a job here in the music library. Score!

Aug. 25th, 2008 @ 09:55 am Why Women Orientation Is Awesome
Because I now have three tupperwares full of cauliflower!!!
It  probably also helped that 2 of the committee members live on my floor.....
But the above said cauliflower made Aloo Gobi!! ^_^

Also, I must remember to not offer to help people. Why?
Because this time it resulted in starting at computer screen for almost 5 hours and searching and typing 600 usernames of froshies for CityDays. T_T
Which in turn resulted in really bad back pains and a migraine for Theta.

watching things with my mom is so aggravating. cause she asks questions about the most obvious things. she only states the obvious, and she asks questions about things that maybe, with a little more thought, would be clearer.

1. Leave me a comment saying anything random, like your favourite lyric to your current favorite song. Or your favorite kind of sandwich. Something random. Whatever you like.

2. I respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.

3. You WILL update your LJ with the answers to the questions.

4. You will include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in the post.

5. When others comment asking to be asked, you will ask them five questions.

Above Meme courtesy of [info]silveraristotle

questions.

1. I'm pretty sure your comment is not a song lyric. what prompted you to reply with "According to a good friend of mine..." ?

Because he is a good friend of mine. I've known him since middle school and when I read your meme I had just come back from an event that he was at along with other friends.

2. if you were actually allowed to pick your uni courses (sans your dad's opinion), what would your schedule look like?

I would keep the Statistics Class, replace Econ with the Anime class I wanted...that's basically it. I have a really nice research job this term and don't want to drowning in classes the whole entire time.

3. finish this sentence: There once was a unicorn...

...who thought he was cabbage and was attempting to breed with a carrot. It was not succeeding.

4. what is your favorite hobby?

A three way tie between reading, cooking and knitting. Rather dull, I know.

5. what is your favorite childhood memory? what is your favorite CTY memory? what do you remember of CTY anyway?

Favorite Childhood Memory:
This is a hard one.... I don't really have one. T_T
Maybe when I passed my food challenges and was able to have milk and eggs?
Favorite CTY Memory:
Meeting [info]brevityiswise. <(^_^<)

CTY, in general: [info]brevityiswise, [info]epicrauko, the Site Director Sonia, being envious of the Engineering kids, building a hovercraft in Intro to Lab Sciences, my paternal grandfather dying the day of my Fast-Paced Chemistry final and finding out after the exam.
