Summary Lindsay gives Danny a subtle hint
Table/Prompt inspired by movies/say anything
“I think Lindsay’s trying to tell me something,” Danny sighed.
“Does it involve the fact that your hair makes you look like you’re in a boyband and you need to cut it?” Don asked. “Cause I agree with that.”
“No,” Danny muttered. “She keeps making me watch Say Anything.”
“So your girlfriend makes you watch chick flicks. What message are you divining from that, exactly?”
“I think she wants me to do something really romantic. Make some big gesture.”
“Because she wants you to watch a girly romantic movie with you.”
“Yeah.” He nodded. “You know, John Cusack standing under the window, holding up the boom box. Something like that. That’s why I have to watch the movie over and over again.”
“So you’re not romantic enough and Lindsay is trying to school you?”
“Something like that.”
“You know if you make some big gesture, Lindsay’s gonna tell Stella all about, and I’ll have to do something big and romantic too or I seem like a crappy boyfriend.”

“Well, no matter what happens,” Danny said wryly, “you’re an excellent friend, being all concerned about how my love life affects yours.”

Lindsay trudged up the steps to the apartment and pushed open the door, wanting nothing more but to crawl into bed next to Danny and curl up under the blankets. She found him waiting for her on the couch with a suitcase at his feet.
She frowned. “Going somewhere?”
“Yeah,” he answered. “We are.”
She rubbed her temples. “We aren’t going anywhere. This part of we has to be at work again in a couple of hours.”
He shook his head. “Surprise.”
She blinked. “Surprise what?”
She blinked. “Surprise what?”
“Surprise, we have a long weekend off. I know you’re exhausted, but I was hoping you could sleep in the car.”
“Where are we going?”
He smiled. “We’re going to ride some horses.”
He smiled. “We’re going to ride some horses.”

“So,” Stella said, as Lindsay slid into the seat across from her, “I want to hear all about the trip.”
Lindsay smiled widely. “It was amazing. We drove to the Adirondacks and stayed in this amazing hotel and the bed was so comfortable, and the food was delicious and then the next morning we went on this trail ride.”
“Danny rode a horse?”
“Danny rode a horse?”
Lindsay nodded.
“Danny Messer,” Stella continued.
“The one and only.”
“He must really love you.”
Lindsay laughed. “Cause he rode a horse?”
Stella nodded. “That’s pretty big for Danny.”
“Yeah,” Lindsay murmured. “Yeah, I guess it is.”

Don cursed under his breath as the first fat raindrops his windshield. It was pouring, a warm summer storm, by the time he parked in the lot behind Stella’s building.
“Hey gorgeous,” he said when she answered the phone.
“Hello,” she murmured.
“Come outside.”
“Why?” she asked, and he could hear her frown through the phone, imagine her pacing around the apartment idly while she talked like he’d watched so many times before.

“Cause I got a surprise for you.”
“It’s raining.”
“Come anyway. You’re not gonna melt Bonasera. I’d never let that happen.”
“Come anyway. You’re not gonna melt Bonasera. I’d never let that happen.”
She hung up and he climbed out of the car, the rain soaking through his clothing by the time she came out, dashing across the lot to where he was standing. Her skin was warm from the rain, soft against this fingers as he embraced her. He kissed her passionately, wrapping his arms around her body and holding her there.
“Hi,” he said softly.
“Hi,” he said softly.
“Hi,” she said with a smile. “You look nice.” She fingered the edges of his suit. “You’re getting all wet.”
“You’re worth it.”
“You wanna tell me why we’re standing in the rain?”
“You’re worth it.”
“You wanna tell me why we’re standing in the rain?”
“Cause I love you.”
“I love you too, Don.”
“I love you too, Don.”
“I thought I’d take you dancing.”
“Where?”
He glanced around the parking lot. “Here. It was gonna seem more spectacular when it wasn’t raining.”
She laughed, wrapping her arms around his neck. “Dancing huh?”
“I know how much you love it.”
She kissed him as they started to sway in the rain. “I love you,” she murmured, resting her head on his shoulder as ‘The way you look tonight’ played on the car’s stereo.

“Romantic gestures are awesome,” Danny said.
“Indeed they are,” Don agreed.
“And we’re awesome boyfriends,” Danny added.
“Now you make us sound kind of gay.”
“I’m just saying. I got the hint, and I made Lindsay all happy, and you made Stella all happy, and we are awesome.”
“We kind of are.”

“Are we evil?” Stella asked.
“Evil?” Lindsay repeated. “No. Maybe a little manipulative, but in the best possible way.”
“Really?”
“We’re harmless,” Lindsay said with a shrug. “I showed Danny a movie and got him to take me horse back riding and you got an awesome dance in the rain with Don. Think about what would happen if I actually decided to use my powers for evil.”
“True. It’s a frightening thought.”
“Indeed.”
“What movie do I have to show Don to get him to take me shoe shopping?”
Lindsay frowned and considered the question. “Maybe start by unbuttoning your shirt.”
Stella shook her head. “You really are perfect for Danny.”
Lindsay laughed. “Thank you.”

“Anytime.”
