Summary Lindsay has a special birthday request
Table/Prompt unthemed 1, maple syrup
“You’re sure this is what she wants?” Don asked, staring into the bowl.
Danny nodded. “She was very clear.”
“She wants maple syrup in her birthday cake?”
“She wants maple syrup in her birthday cake?”
“Yep.”
“Is she pregnant?”
“What?” Danny sputtered, his eyes wide. “No. No. Why would you ask?”
“Because it sounds like some kind of weird craving thing.”
“It’s not that weird.”
“Is she pregnant?”
“What?” Danny sputtered, his eyes wide. “No. No. Why would you ask?”
“Because it sounds like some kind of weird craving thing.”
“It’s not that weird.”
“It’s that weird,” Don muttered.
“She’s not pregnant. She would tell me.”
“Yeah, I mentioned it and your eyes almost popped out of your skull. Maybe she’s waiting to slip you a valium.”
“Yeah, I mentioned it and your eyes almost popped out of your skull. Maybe she’s waiting to slip you a valium.”
“Just mix the damn cake,” Danny muttered.
“You’re really freaked out.”
“No,” Danny said, shaking his head. “I’m just. She’s not. She would tell me.”
“When she does tell you, could you freak out a little less? Cause you’re not acting very supportive.”
“Supportive of what? Your whole stupid theory about Lindsay’s hypothetical pregnancy?”
“I’m not talking anymore. I’m stirring Lindsay’s disgusting cake.”
“Maybe it’s not disgusting. It could be good. Maybe it’ll taste like a pancake.”
Don shook his head.
“No,” Danny said, shaking his head. “I’m just. She’s not. She would tell me.”

Don shook his head.
“Maybe it’s a Montana thing,” Danny continued.
“Sure. That’s probably it.” Don frowned. “What the hell kind of frosting do you put on a giant pancake cake?”
Danny sighed. “I have no idea. Just keep mixing.”

Lindsay beamed as Danny placed her cake in front of her, the candles glowing brightly. She closed her eyes, making a wish before she blew them out. She looked out over the table, at the people that she loved, and reached over to lace her fingers through Danny’s.
“Danny made my cake,” she said happily.
“I had some help,” he murmured, nodding to Don even as he stared at Lindsay.
“Yeah, don’t blame any strange tastes on me,” Don murmured. “That’s all Lindsay and her special flavor request.”
Lindsay giggled, her nose wrinkling. “Thank you boys.”
“Did anyone check the cake, make sure it’s edible?” Hawkes asked.
“Did anyone check the cake, make sure it’s edible?” Hawkes asked.
“I’m sure it’s wonderful,” Lindsay said.
“Tell them all about your special recipe,” Don said with a grin.
“Yeah, we’d love to hear,” Mac said.
Lindsay blushed. “It’s maple syrup. I wanted a cake with maple syrup.”
“Interesting choice,” Sid murmured.
Stella cut the cake, passing plates around to everyone. Danny watched Lindsay, the way she focused intently on the cake, smiling to herself. She turned suddenly, looking at him.
“You’re staring,” she whispered.
“Sorry.”
“Is everything okay?”
He nodded and she turned back to her plate.
“Are you pregnant?” Danny blurted out.
Lindsay’s mouth dropped open. “I…I…” she stammered. “I didn’t want to tell you like this. How did you…”
“Maple syrup cake is weird,” he said, staring at her. “You…you’re…we’re?”
She nodded. “I…uh…I…I’m pregnant.”
Conversation around the table stopped as Lindsay stared at Danny. He was silent, looking at her. She felt her heart pounding in her chest and swallowed. “Danny say something,” she whispered.
He continued to stare at her. “Somethin’,” he finally said with a grin.
Lindsay smiled so widely the expression burst across her face and leaned forward, wrapping her arms around him.
“Congratulations,” Hawkes said, and the words were echoed around the table.
“Told you we were making some kind of weird craving cake,” Don said with a laugh.
Stella swatted Don’s arm. “We’re so happy for you kiddo,” she said, leaning towards Lindsay. “Both of you.”
