I like it when people lead by example, which is why I'm not a leader.
Anyway, I'm Sam. I play Armand St. Just here (in case the journal wasn't a dead giveaway). The lame namish name is because this is a very old journal (which didn't see much use) meant for a serious roleplay more than a year ago. We were all trying for variants of actual character names. I like the journal name I use for him on the Desperate games better (
sweariwontdie), because its actually a quote from a musical, but I wasn't about to try to juggle a third journal so here he is until I can afford a rename key.
My regular journal is
reynardbleu. I'm trained as a librarian and have a bachelor's degree in English. This is important because it means I care about language very much. I try very hard, and fail as much as the next person if I'm in a hurry or such, to get my grammar and spelling correct.
I've loved
The Scarlet Pimpernel probably since just before the musical came out. Even though I barely remember the first performance I saw of it (I was terribly sick that weekend and paid more attention to suppressing my coughs and unwrapping cough drops without disturbing the house than the stage, sad to say), I fell in love with Armand. I read the book, and was horribly disappointed. Then I heard about and read
Eldorado, one of the sequels. It's mostly about Armand and is the source the writers of the musical used for his 'younger than his sister' 'age. If anyone is at all curious, I can provide links to etexts for many of Baroness Orczy's books and a summary of
Eldorado. There's probably a good summary of the musical somewhere. It's not exactly the plot of any of the books, but it works very well.
Back to me. I read voraciously across many genres, watch anime though I pick and chose what I like despite what is critically accepted or popularity. Some of what I like is popular, some obscure. Sometimes I find and watch things just because a friend recommended it. I guess the newest thing I watched was
Kyo Kara Maoh. The book I am re-reading right now is
A Man Rides Through by Stephen R. Donaldson. It's one of my favorite comfort reads. The last new book I read was
Exultant by Stephen Baxter. My favorite movie is
Dr. Zhivago. My favorite wide-realease animated film is Don Bluth's
Anastasia. My favorite musical is
Les Miserables. My favorite play is
Moon for the Misbegotten by Eugene O'Neill. I don't watch a lot of television, so it's hard to name a favorite current show. Probably
Doctor Who even though I can't watch the current season legally yet.
If that doesn't give you enough insight to the inside of my head, feel free to peruse the public parts of my journal. I am a quite bit older than the average roleplayer on LJ. This is because my own writing goes very slowly, and I never get enough feedback. Roleplaying is dynamic and interactive and fun.
I'm here to have fun, and our lovely mods have put something together for us that looks to be just that.
