 This community runs monthly writing contests, with all entries due by 11:59 p.m. (PST) on the 10th. Voting polls will be posted on the 11th, and winners announced on the 15th. Each month’s contest will incorporate a twofold challenge. There will be one writing prompt for the oneshot category, and a second, different writing prompt for the drabble category. Members can participate by posting one drabble and one oneshot each month, for a total of two entries. These themes can be taken literally or figuratively. Make sure you’re applying the oneshot theme to your oneshot and the drabble theme to your drabble. ● Drabbles must be no fewer than 100 words and no more than 250. Oneshots are 500 words and up. Entries that go over or under the prescribed word count will be disqualified, so take the time to edit accordingly. Just to be very thorough: Drabble = 100 - 250 words Oneshot = 500+ words ● Entries must incorporate the contest’s theme, and they must highlight Miroku & Kagome in some way. Their relationship can be either romantic or platonic, and your setting can be either canon universe or alternate universe. ● All drabble and oneshot entries must be new material, written specifically for this community and its themes. Fics that have been entered into more than one contest will be disqualified. In other words, you can’t write a story that fulfills the theme requirements for iyfic_contest, feudal_tales, and mirkagfic, and enter it in all three places. ● Avoid stories with adult content. That means no NC17 material, no graphic sexual situations, no lemons. Yes, I am aware that we are dealing with Miroku here, and fully expect his brand of mischief to shine through on occasion. I simply ask that you refrain from becoming explicit. *This restriction will be enforced for contest entries only. You can still recommend stories with higher ratings into the Mir/Kag archives. ● Since there is the potential of a month’s lagtime between posting an entry and the voting results, you may publicly post your entry right here or to the venue of your choice (FF, MM, DA, PD, your own LJ, etc.) and provide us with a link. All contest entries will automatically be tagged and added to our growing archive of Mir/Kag fanfiction. ● Please take the time to check over your stories for typographical and grammatical errors before posting. Do not be offended if other members point out any small mistakes that crop up; they’re just being helpful. We’re all learning. ● When submitting an entry, please make sure that the contest number and either ‘drabble entry’ or ‘oneshot entry’ appear on the subject line of your post. Your posting should look quite a bit like this: Subject Line: Contest 1 – Drabble/Oneshot Entry Title: The Name of Your Fic Author: Pen Name Theme: Which prompt inspired this fic? Genre: Drama, Angst, Humor, Romance, Fluff, Introspection, and so on. Rating: You can use any rating system: G, PG, PG13, R or K, K+, T, M, etc. Warnings: Use as needed for squicks and spoilers. Word Count: Drabbles are 100 – 250 words; oneshots are 500+ words. Summary: Give us a teaser. (An LJ cut, or the link to your publicly posted fic) ● Voting begins on the 11th and is open to members and watchers. Polls for drabbles and oneshots will be run separately. If there are 5 or more entries in either category, first, second, and third place will be awarded. If there are 4 entries or less, then only first place will be determined. Voting will take place via screened comments to preserve your anonymity. Points are awarded to fics by a simple tally. 1st place vote = 3 points 2nd place vote = 2 points 3rd place vote = 1 point ● You must be signed in to cast a vote. It’s okay if you want to vote for yourself, provided you feel your story merits the points. Do not try to pool your friends and relatives together to stuff the ballot box. I’ll notice, and the consequences will be dire. ● Winners will be announced on the 15th, and will receive an award banner for their efforts. ● Commenting on other members’ entries is highly encouraged. Most writers crave feedback, and while many also welcome constructive criticism, please do not critique their entry harshly. | |
