this group hasnt been active in a while. Hey Moderators ~ I'd like to claim the St Louis Bandits (NAHL) and Ohio State University (college)

And since this group says we can talk about the juniors...have to give props to our boys (St Louis Bandits) on winning the NAHL Robertson Cup back-to-back years. The best part was seeing the championship game last night on our home ice. Hell yeah!!

Hey eveyone! I'm new here... I'm Leah but you can call me Princess Leah. I'm normally into the L.A. Kings & Pittsburgh Penguins, but I'm also into some minor hockey teams as well as junior teams, particularly the QMJHL.

My favorite teams are Long Beach Ice Dogs (ECHL), Reading Royals (ECHL), Manchester Monarchs (AHL), Omaha ASB Knights (AHL), Moncton Wildcats (QMJHL), Drummondville Voltigeurs (QMJHL) & Rimouski L'Oceanic (QMJHL).

As for claims, if it's not taken already, I'd love to claim the Long Beach Ice Dogs. If indeed the Ice Dogs are taken, then I'd love to claim Manchester Monarchs. Anyways, thanx a lot and cya around. Take care. :D

I posted a similar messages a couple of days ago about an auction going on in support of Sebastien Savage. This is a guy I knew fairly well, so it definitely touches home a bit. He was the type of player that didn't have the most skill, but always came to the rink with a hard hat and bucket.

I've never been a huge supporter of Don Cherry, but one thing I have always agreed with him on was automatic icing. This incident happened while Savage and an opposing defensman were racing into the corner following the puck. IMO, automatic icing is one of the biggest rules that needs to be inforced in NHL hockey. Just a couple years before, the 67's saw another player, their captain, go down with a serious injury because of the touch-icing rule. He fell knee first into the boards and missed the rest of the season (around Dec/Jan), including the playoffs.

Anyway, I believe that most, if not all auctions end tomorrow around noon!

http://www.hockeycountryauction.ca

THERE ARE SEVERAL ARTICLES FROM MOST NHL TEAMS (others from the OHL, WHL and AHL)

BACKGROUND INFO:
The Ottawa 67's along with help from the Ottawa Senators and the Ontario Hockey League have organized this auction in support of Sebastien Savage, a former 67's player. Sebastien was left quadriplegic following a fall while playing for the University of Moncton on October 22, 2005. Show your support to a player whose life drastically changed while playing the game we all love. All proceeds from the auction and puck sales will go to the Sebastien Savage Foundation.

NHL
- NHL referee signed jersey

Anaheim Mighty Ducks
- Zenon Konopka signed jersey

Atlanta Thrashers
- Marc Savard signed jersey

Boston Bruins
- Nick Boynton signed jersey
- Andrew Raycroft signed hockey stick
- John Bucyk autographed photo

Buffalo Sabres
- Brian Campbell signed jersey

Calgary Flames
- Mikka Kiprusoff signed jersey
- Team signed jersey

Carolina Hurricanes
- Rod Brind'Amour autographed photo

Chicago Blackhawks
- Bobby Hull signed jersey
- Glenn Hall autographed photo

Colorado Avalanche
- Colorado Avalanche team signed hockey stick

Columbus Blue Jackets
- Team signed jersey (x2)

Dallas Stars
- Sergei Zubov signed jersey

Detroit Red Wings
- Steve Yzerman signed jersey
- Marcel Pronovost autographed photo
- Scotty Bowman autographed photo (x3)

Edmonton Oilers
- Team signed jersey
- Edmonton Oilers Jason Smith signed puck

Florida Panthers
- Game worn team jersey + game tickets (x2)

Los Angeles Kings
- Luc Robitaille team signed jersey

Minnesota Wild
- N/A
- Houston Aeros team signed helmet

Montreal Canadiens
- Lorne “Gump” Worsley autographed photo
- Chance to win team signed jersey with every purchase
- 4 tickets to a 2006-2007 Montreal Canadiens game

Nashville Predators
- Mike Sillinger signed jersey

New Jersey Devils
- Martin Brodeur signed jersey

New York Islanders
- Alexei Yashin signed jersey

New York Rangers
- Eddie Giacomin autographed photo

Ottawa Senators
- Jason Spezza signed jersey + dinner (bidding ended)
- Zdeno Chara signed jersey + dinner (bidding ended)
- Mike Fisher signed jersey + dinner (bidding ended)
- Wade Redden signed jersey
- Chris Phillips signed jersey
- Round 1, Game 2 playoff tickets

Philadelphia Flyers
- N/A

Phoenix Coyotes
- Denis Gauthier signed jersey

Pittsburgh Penguins
- Mario Lemieux signed jersey
- Sidney Crosby signed jersey

San Jose Sharks
- Team signed jersey

St. Louis Blues
- Scott Young signed jersey

Tampa Bay Lightning
- Brad Richards signed jersey
- Dan Boyle signed hockey stick

Toronto Maple Leafs
- Toronto Maple Leafs team signed hockey stick
- Frank Mahovlich autographed photo
- 4 tickets to a 2006-2007 Toronto Maple Leafs game

Vancouver Canucks
- N/A

Washington Capitals
- Team signed jersey

CHL (Canadian Hockey League)
- Game-Worn CHL Top Prospects Jersey (40)
- Game-Worn OHL All Star Jerseys (40)
- Most Game-Worn Ottawa 67's Jerseys (36)
- Some Game-Worn OHL Jerseys (8)
- WHL Jerseys (2)
- Mississauga Ice Dogs team signed hockey stick
- Sudbury Wolves Benoit Pouliot autographed photo
- Hockey Experience with Bobby Smith (current Halifax Moosehead coach)

MISC.
-Houston Aeros team signed helmet
-Red Sox vs. D'
Mods, I hope this is ok, please let me know if its not.

I'm doing a research paper on hazing in sports, focusing on junior hockey (ironically enough the Windsor Spitfire (OHL) case happened just weeks later).

If anyone could answer this survey, that would be greatly appreciated. You can either reply to this post, or if you want to answer it anonymously (and can't do it on this forum), go HERE.

This survey can be done by anyone. Players, coaches, trainers, fans, employees, parents, etc. If possible, state what you are in number 1. I understand there could be some embarrassing stories or some things people may not want to reveal. That is why I am putting it on THIS forum. It allows you to post with a name or anonymously.

The purpose for this survey is for a college research paper on hazing, focusing on but not limited to junior hockey. It will not be published anywhere or shown to anyone but the professor. It's 10 questions and shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes.

1. What is your sports background? (playing, working, etc)
2. In your words, what is hazing?
3. Why do you think hazing happens?
4. Hazing is often defended as helping teams bond, do you agree with that? Can you think of any other ways that a team can bond?
5. Have you been hazed in the past? (for sports, school, or other)
6. What is the worst hazing you have had to do? (yourself and/or to others)
7. What is the worst hazing you have heard of?
8. Are you familiar with the Windsor Spitfires saga this season? What is your opinion on the suspension that was laid down?
9. Do you know what your team or leagues policy is on hazing? If so, what is it?
10. Any additional comments on hazing?

Thank you very much to anyone who responds.

x-posted to sports_debate, hockey, ohl, whl_hockey

Just curious?

I'd really like to see this community get up and moving since we're just weeks away from most minor league teams openers. The UHL training camp starts on October 9 - woohoo

I'd also like to claim a few players as well

It's hockey time in Sioux City!

We start the season off Against the Omaha Lancers 9/24. This has always been a NASTY Rivalry. Anyways, our team is very young, but they just went 2-0-1 in the Buc Bowl, a preseason tourney.

Last year we played our first full season in our new arena. It is incredible, but also sucks for two reasons.

The rise in the seating is very gradual, so I do not feel "ontop" of the game as we did in the old audi. In the old audi, it was very enclosed and the rise was very steep, so you could sit in the top row, but still feel like you could touch the ice, and basically look straight down. Also the old Audi, had the smallest ice surface in the USHL. 20 feet shorter than NHL size ice. and 10 narrower. so behind the net you could fit two people at most. Those finesse teams that came here had the roughest time playing their "speed" game. We built our teams tough, and they were hard hitting games. Love that style of play. Rough, tough, knock em on their ass. But now our ice is normal NHL size and our team is geared more for that finesse style which is great to watch, love the beauty of a play created on the moment, turning it into a eye popping goal.

anyways, can't wait until the season starts.

here is our official site, official site, and a great unofficial site. The unofficial site has a huge message board, and many excellent pics, including our new arena, and also when Ruslan Fedotenko (former Sioux City Musketeer) brought the Stanley Cup to Sioux City! Ruslan still lives in the area in the off season (and last year during the lock out) so I caught up with him many times at youth hockey functions. Real down to earth guy.

I have to claim the Sioux City Musketeers here, from the USHL, one of the premireJr A leagues in the nation.

Last year we played Cedar Rapids Roughriders for the Clark Cup, took it to all five games, but lost in the end.
This year we have the youngest team of the year. It will be a tough one, but looking forward to is. Nite all.

Hey everyone! I just found this community, and from the looks of it, it's been pretty slow...but since I'm a minor-league fan, I decided to join and post anyways. My team is the Philadelphia Phantoms, this year's Calder Cup champions, and come next season I'll be a full season ticket holder. My favorite players from the Phantoms are Patrick Sharp, Josh Gratton, and Riley Cote. If anyone ever wants to talk AHL, I'd be glad to. My AIM in on my profile. :)

PS - Can I claim the Phantoms as my team? Thanks!

HI EVERYONE! Im Dana im 15 years old. I am living in Portland Oregon..and a season ticket holder to the Portland Winterhawks (WHL). I also enjoy taking pictures...so i have like 234845908420958million pictures of hockey players in the whl. :D
As some know, in the WHL you can only have three 20 year olds, and then after that year they are gone on their own. Such as Cody McLeod, that just got picked up by the Adirondack Frostbite of the UHL. He was their #1 draft pick recently. They are a very good team and look poised to make a nice long run in the playoffs. He also negotiated with an AHL club but could not come to terms.( beter luck next year!)

So anyways, i dontknow alot about the Adirondack Frostbite..or let alone..the UHL! So im joing this community maybe to learn something about them. ha

Fort Wayne Komets

Hi all! :) My name is Laurie, I'm 19 years old, and I'm new here. I'm a HUGE fan of the Fort Wayne Komets of the UHL. :) I have to admit that my favorites are Colin Chaulk, Jonathan Goodwin, and Dustin Virag, but they are all freaking *fantastic* players, so more power to all of 'em! :P

Anyway, the K's signed a new goalie, as Kevin St. Pierre is out with a knee injury. So with Tyler Masters as our lead goalie, we nabbed Cory Campbell from the Motor City Mechanics as the new back-up, so I'm looking forward to seeing what's he's like. Anybody know anything about him?

Anyone mind if I claim the Komets? Hope not, because that's my official request for a claim. LOL

I'll be going to both Komet games this weekend, and I hope everyone else's weekend is just as hockey-filled as mine! :P

River Otters Acquire Littlejohn From Adirondack
The Missouri River Otters of the United Hockey League are proud to announce that they have acquired forward Frank Littlejohn from the Adirondack Frostbite in exchange for defenseman Bob Rapoza.

Littlejohn, 28, has spent the last five years with Adirondack. During that span he’s scored 139 goals, dished out 111 assists, and piled up 1209 penalty minutes in 315 games. He’s played 14 games in the American Hockey League since 2001.

“Frank can do everything,” River Otters Head Coach Kevin Kaminski said. “He can hit, he can score, and he doesn’t back down from anyone on the ice. He will also bring veteran leadership to our team.”

Rapoza, 30, has spent the last two seasons with the River Otters. During that span he has scored 13 goals, added 50 assists, and registered 98 penalty minutes in 132 games.

The River Otters next game is Wednesday, February 9 against the Quad City Mallards at the Family Arena. The puck drops at 7:05 PM CST, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 and the B2 Webcast and Video Simulcast, located at www.riverotters.com.

I cant wait to see LJ play with the team tomorrow night for the first time. I am so excited. Just thought some of you Icehawks/Frosbite fans would like to know.

We need some action in this community. Where is everyone?

I'm one proud Otters fan right now. Our team is doing so well this season and we have a real chance of making it into the playoffs. Last season was the worst of all. The Otters have been in the UHL since the 99-00 season and last season we could barely muster up 17 wins. It was sad. We have new owners ( our owners dad owned the St. Louis Blues for years ) so his name is pretty popular amongst hockey fans in the area. We had Scott Mellanby as an assistant coach but he left in January to move to Atlanta to settle his family in , just in case there is NHL hockey next season.
