Minicon 42 Galleries
Minicon 42 Galleries up! I'm not done annotating the pictures, but as usual LJ gets first peek. At the moment, I'm still hacking my way through Gallery B and neither of these are connected to the rest of the site. I took too many pictures... but I got a lot of good ones. These are not finished. Solution to the Minicon Medallion Hunt
At Closing Ceremonies, I wrapped up the Minicon Medallion Hunt by revealing the location of the last two undiscovered pennies, along with the logic behind them. I was asked to post this account (which evoked death threats from Howard Harrison and laughter from the rest of the audience) to someplace like this community. For the sake of posterity I am glad to oblige. The parts in italics are extra material I didn't read at Closing Ceremonies.
Some people have suggested that perhaps the clue for Medallion 42 was a tad on the challenging side. To this, I respond that, given the rate at which the pennies were gobbled up during the first Medallion Hunt, including the secret one that wasn't even supposed to be found until after the second issue came out, I felt I could hardly overestimate the riddle-solving skills of Minicon attendees. Now I suppose I have an upper bound to work with. :) Don't forget, though, that seventeen of the nineteen pennies were found, and quickly, at that. That's not too shabby, you have to admit! A quick mention that I've been posting Minicon 42 pictures in my LJ, one at a time, for several days. More to come, I suspect. Eventually (but not soon), I'll post a full gallery of pictures; 260 survived the first cut (with more photo ops on the horizon) but the gallery won't be that large. |

Return of the Dodo
Apologies for lack of net.connectivity for a while earlier today-- I'd paid for three days of internet starting on Thursday and that time ran out sometime this afternoon. I paid for another day so Dodo should be up 'til whenever we depart the hotel tomorrow. I returned to my room at 3am or so this morning to find my computer had completely shut down and I'm not sure how long it was down. Got it back up and running before the 4am pulse check if I recall correctly. |

Late checkout may only be 1:30 not 2
If anyone is counting on the 2pm checkout mentioned on page 5 of the program book ("Minicon guests may call the front desk to extend their checkout time on sunday until 2pm.) I'd suggest making sure that you talk to the hotel. I was initially told that it absolutely wasn't possible to give a checkout later than 1:30 and that if the program book said that it was in error. When I asked to speak to a manager, I did in fact get a 2pm checkout. With 1-2 program slots, that means slipping out a few minutes early as opposed to checking out before the last panel. But I was left with the feeling that the manager felt he was doing me an enormous favor. Sigh. Current Mood:  annoyed |

for the open wireless at the pool. Most triumphant! I'm the LJer chasing around the 7 year old who never stops talking (if that narrows it down). Badge name 'Monkey Boy!' Caution - keep phones away from pool (duh). mine got a little drenched yesterday and shorted out. Smallest Minicon I have seen as far as attendance. Should still be a fun saturday night though. There is a map of where things are located this year on the Minicon 42 programming page. Registration and Volunteers tables will be on the first floor in the atrium in the North/short tower. Hours should be on the Minicon site somewhere. Most other con space is located in the rooms over there (programming, art show, dealer's room, etc). The consuite is located on the second floor in the suites at the far end of the pool. And so on . . . see the map for full coverage. |

Internet info
In room ethernet access costs $4.95/hour or $9.95/day or $24.95 for three days. Can be billed to your room if you're accessing it in your room via supplied ethernet. There is wireless access in many places, it also costs $4.95/hour or $9.95 per day; I didn't see a three-day option available probably because it didn't recognize me as being associated with a particular room? I suppose a person could hook up a wireless router to ethernet in their room . . . I've paid for ethernet access, but they seem to want me to pay again for wifi (I ain't doin' that). Service is provided to the Sheraton by Global Suite Wireless Guest Tek. If anyone has more internet/wifi/network info to share, please comment on this entry. |

LJ Party request
If you would like to help with the Minicon LJ party, here are two things I need: corn chips--I have guacamole and salsa, but somehow no corn chips (I suggest that if you're going to bring them, you leave a comment here saying so, so that 50 people don't bring corn chips!) a volunteer--to run registration from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday, so that I can set up the party. kaustin is organizing volunteers, and will have a table near registration Thanks! Minicon 41 photos
Various shots from Minicon 41. Quite a few of the "Harlan and Howard show" and evening music parties. This photoset is the main reason I bought my Fuji Finepix F30 a few months later. (These were all taken with my older Panasonic FZ20 and a bunch of them were barely usable due to low light.) I haven't yet added captions to most of these.
