Millipede questions!
Hey,
I have a chocolate millipede (I think!) who is quite young and I have a few questions:

I got her a few months ago, and I never see her. This is fine with me if she is just shy or antisocial or whatever. I just worry that she's not okay. Is it common for them to stay almost entirely underground? I can never tell if she has been eating, it always just gets so gross and moldy that it is impossible to tell. The only way I've been able to know for sure is that she is still alive so she's gotta be eating! I usually feed her cucumber or mango. occasionally I throw lettuce in.

Lots of little fruit flies seem to like hanging out in her cage, are they harmful at all?

Also, what temps should she be kept at? I try for about 70-75 (it can get pretty cold where I live). Any help would be appreciated. I worry about her.

Hmm..... I'm interested in hearing what other people have to say about this, because my two chocolate millipedes are the same way. I keep them at 70-75°, as well, they have sphagnum moss for substrate, as for what I feed them, I try to give them a pretty varied diet involving cucumbers, mangos, squash, cranberry sauce and sweet potatoes (from Thanksgiving), and I've also found that they seem to like cat food, as it becomes slightly softened after I mist them.

I have two pedes: a boy and a girl. The girl NEVER comes out, but she's been living in there happily for a long time. I've actually seen her nibbling on the sphagnum moss before; I don't know if she eats it, or if she only comes out for food when I'm not looking (I look quite frequently). Every now and then, I'll look in there and see the boy moving around, eating food. He's always been the more active of the two (he's so fast, I swear he thinks he's a centipede).

I confess that I am rather worried about my pedes. I don't know if this is normal or not, but I've had them for a couple months now and they don't *seem* to be showing any other signs of being unhealthy..... I did lose my first pede, Meep (I think it was to old age, though; he was huge when I got him), so I'm always really concerned for my two new pedes.

Maybe it's normal?

I was pretty relieved to hear that someone else has the same problem, I hope it just means that chocolates are just a little antisocial. I'd hate it if they weren't okay or something!

Can't answer anything else, but about the fruit flies:

I have no idea if they are harmful, they are totally annoying and have a penchant to hanging around my face for some reason. As a result I changed the food in my milli's tank daily, even if they hadn't eaten it. This wasn't so difficult because I smuggled veggies from the cafeteria at dinner so it wasn't an added expense for me.
