The old guy was out of town on a fishing trip, leaving Mary with his house keys. She'd taken advantage of his kitchen and brought tons of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies to study hall for the students.

"Oh, I disagree. Your future could be very interesting. I'm just thinking about how cute you'll look in your Air Force uniform," said Dani, smiling.

"I kind of miss being around the horses," she admitted, looking a bit wistful. "Back home, I lived on a working horse farm. After school and on weekends, I was always at the track watching the workouts and talking to the trainers."

"Well, it's really pretty boring to some people," said Dani. "Usually, I'll tag along with the trainer to see what their plan is for the horses, and then I'll watch the horses on racing on the practice track. Then I'll go over the times with the trainer and we decide if the horses are ready to be entered in races. Or I'd go for a horseback ride. There's this really nice trail that leads all the way to one of the neighboring ranches. If I'm lucky, I get to scout out their horses. And... this really isn't very interesting, is it?"
