    Midsummer Fics are Up!
And now! The moment you've all been waiting for! I present to you the 20 (with one more waiting in the wings - it'll be posted tomorrow night, due to unavoidable RL difficulties) brand new Midsummer Santa fics! All the posts are unlocked to everyone now! Go to [info]midsummer_fic to see them! If you click on the memories of [info]midsummer_fic, all the fics are sorted by both recipient and fandom(s) for easy access.

You guys did a truly wonderful job on these fics. Thank you so much for participating. People, go read - you will be overwhelmed by the obscure Canadian goodness! The authors will be revealed next Monday, August 29th.

    Admin: YAY
Yay! Almost all the stories have been delivered, and those pending have been promised to me on pain of death, so I think we are in TERRIBLY good shape for Monday! I'm going to try to get the fics uploaded and locked so JUST the author and I can see them relatively soon, so you can tell me if you see any changes that need to be made. I'll accept requests for edits until 5PM on Monday the 22nd.

And on that same Monday (the 22nd), I'll give the fics one last go-through and then start unlocking them, so by about, say, 8PM on the 22nd, you should have in your hot little hands twenty-one, count 'em, twenty-one brand-new fics to read in a variety of random little Canadian film-and-television fandoms.

(Monday, August 29th, is the reveal - I'll attach the names of the writers to the fics, so you know who to thank for your LOVELY and WONDERFUL Midsummer fic.)

You all completely rock my world - I am thrilled beyond the telling of it to all of you who participated. You all made this work, and I adore you for it.

    ADMIN POST: Deadline Reminder!
    Just a OMGWTF reminder:

[info]midsummer_fic stories are due in one week! Remember, you have until midnight, Monday, August 15th, to send me your completed Midsummer Santa stories! That's a whole week. That's PLENTY of time! Deadlines bring inspiration! Yay? I guess?

Here are the steps to take when you complete your fics (as I know you all will! Because it's fun! And not at all stressful and ulcer-inducing!):

    1) Make sure you are signed on as a friend on [info]midsummer_fic so that I can set up a custom friend's group for you.

    2) Send me (brooklinegirl@rcn.com) your finished story in a format compatible with LJ - html or rich text. Stories should be headed with title, fandom(s), and recipient. Be especially careful to detail any fandoms you crossed over within the fic - astoundingly, there may be some I don't recognize. You can include ratings or summaries if you so desire. Beta-names might kind of give away who wrote which fic - if you want to include them, I can add on the beta info when I post the reveal.

    3) I will post your story to [info]midsummer_fic, with the entry viewable only by your custom friend group - which means YOU and no one else - and let you know it's been posted. Obviously stories will be posted without authors' names.

    4) You check out the entry and let me know if there are any problems or changes that need to be made.

    5) At midnight on Monday, August 22nd, I will unlock all the posts so everyone! Anyone! Can read and enjoy the fic! I'll post an announcement that the stories are available for viewing, here and on [info]ds_noticeboard. I'll also do what [info]aerye did with [info]ds_seekritsanta, and have the fics in the Memories section, sorted by fandom and recipient name, so you can find your story!

    6) By 9PM on Monday, August 29, I will attach authors names to the entries, and authors will be free to post stories to their web sites or LJs or archives or wherever.

Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Panic-induced ramblings? Ask me! I am here to help!

    Information About Assignments
    Assignments will go out tonight!

In the meantime, some Important Information (including the fact that you need to go friend [info]midsummer_fic, which is where the stories will actually be posted!)

    *~*~*~*

You will each receive an email from me by, uhm, midnight tonight? Possibly 2AM. In the email I will identify your story recipient, and will give you the exact information they provided to me about the kind of story they want.

    Your Assignment

I tried and almost fully succeeded in matching up people according to the first preferences of stories they want written for them. HOWEVER, no one is required to write a story based on the first preference. The only thing you are required to do is write a story for ONE of the recipient's requests, within the genres they specified, without any of the things they DON'T want. (i.e., without giving any men unwanted pregnancies or giving anyone wings by accident. *looks sternly at [info]lynnmonster*)

I am just cutting and pasting the instructions from the recipient into the email. If you are confused by anything, and want clarification, DO NOT CONTACT THE RECIPIENT DIRCTLY (*points out the SEKRIT aspect of this whole thing*) Email questions to me, and I will ask the recipient and get you an answer.

    Further Thoughts on Secrecy

Please, please, don't post details about your Midsummer Santa assignment in your LJ. Which movie/TV show you got should PARTICULARLY not be discussed, as that is what we call a BIG HUGE CLUE as to your lucky recipient. (I'm enormously pleased at the variety of fandoms I received requests for, btw.) Try not to spoil things!

    Deadlines and Formatting

Deadline for stories is midnight on August 15th. I am as heartless as [info]aerye was at Christmas: if you don't deliver your story, and the story written FOR you is easily substituted (it's possible), then I will do so. If a substitution cannot be made, I will get in touch with some of you fine folks who offered to help out by writing an extra fic in just such a circumstance.

Stories should be delivered to me appropriately coded for a LJ entry: html or rich text. For a header, I'd like a title, recipient, fandom, and NO author (seeeeeeekrit. I'll add the author later, when it comes time for the reveal.). If you chose to give me your beta reader thank-yous, I'll add that, too, upon the reveal (as it makes it sort of hard to preserve anonymity if the beta is also participating in the Midsummer Santa.)

Next, I'll set up 21 separate friends groups at [info]midsummer_fic, which is a BRAND NEW GROUP I just set up, which is where the fic will be posted! So you should go friend it! Right now! Because that's sort of an important part in how it works!

Once I receive your story, I will post it so that YOU and ONLY YOU may view it before midnight on August 22nd, which is when they'll be open for everyone to read.

The author's identities will be sekrit for a week. On Monday, August 29th, I'll attach names (and beta thanks, if provided) to the stories.

That's it for now. Any questions, please ask. Any suggestions, let me know. Any naked Canadians you want to send my way, that's good too!

All right! Time's up, the entries are in, the Midsummer Sekrit Santa Challenge is a go!

I have emails from 21 participants and have sent acknowledgments to everyone. If you didn't receive an answer from me, indicating I'd received your info, please contact me - it may mean I didn't get your email.

I will try to get assignments out in the next couple of days, but definitely by next Monday, June 27th.

And it seems that most of you want me to write Twitch City. Which is yay! But dude, where's the Aspen Extreme love? *cries* I might have to write that as well, just to make myself happy.

Okay. I'm off to confuse the hell out of myself trying to match everyone up!

    Kudos! and Poll!
First off: give kudos to [info]maryavatar for our lovely Midsummer Sekrit Santa banner and Admin icons. I'm working on a set of icons, including those donated by ms. [info]dayse, for you guys to use when it comes time to post your fics. Also, I'm setting up the fic-posting community as well - that'll be up and running by the time you get your assigments.

Secondly: okay, due to being admin here and therefore NOT being able to play by the normal rules, I wanted to come up with a way that I could write a fic for all of you who are so wonderfully giving your time and energy to this ficathon. Therefore, poll!

    Rules!
    Midsummer Sekrit Santa Rules:

Send an email to brooklinegirl@rcn.com with the subject line "Midsummer Sekrit Santa." In the email:

Tell Me What You Want Written For You:

    1. Give me at least three but not more than five movies/TV shows you would want written for you. Anything with either Paul Gross and/or Callum Keith Rennie in it, besides Due South. It doesn't have to be both PG and CKR. Go to their IMDB profiles and pick what movies/TV shows you'd want to have fic written about FOR you. Your Sekrit Santa will pick ONE of your requests.

    2. In those choices, tell me what types of stories you want: gen, het, and/or slash.

    3. If you want het or slash, tell me what pairing(s) you are interested in. If you want gen, tell me what character you want to be central to the story. Please remember that if you say "anything," I will take you at your word.

    4. There is obviously cross-over potential here, especially if you're interested in having a PG character slashed with a CKR character from a different movie/series. Please state your crossover preferences, i.e., please do/do not cross over any of the fandoms I've requested with each other. Keep in mind this is a preference, not a definite. If your Santa is familiar with both, they may choose to cross them over, if you so desire, but are not required to.

    5. Tell me THREE things that you don't want: threesomes, mpreg, kidfic, incest, non-con, etc.

For Questions #1 and #2, if you list multiple answers, please indicate your first, second, and third preferences.

Optional: If you want to give your Midsummer Sekrit Santa some direction by including a theme, a plot, a location, bits of dialogue, etc., you may. HOWEVER, your Sekrit Santa is not bound by these optional suggestions, only by your answers to Questions 1, 2, and 3.

Tell Me What You Are Willing To Write:

    1. Tell me all of the types of stories you are willing to write: gen, het, and/or slash.

(And god, I mean, hi, not everyone has seen every Callum Keith Rennie and/or Paul Gross movie ever made (like me). Offer to write everything you possibly feel comfortable writing! And not just because I think there needs to be Slings and Arrows fic in the world! Just - make it easier for to me to match you up! Stretch those writing muscles! Do some research! Re-watch Callum being all hot in My Life as a Dog! Paul being devastatingly good in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Slings and Arrows! It's fun homework! It's porn homework!)

    2. Tell me all of the movies/TV shows featuring Paul Gross and/or Callum Keith Rennie you are willing to write. Tell me all of the characters you are willing to write about.

    3. Tell me THREE things that you are not willing to write: threesomes, mpreg, kidfic, incest, non-con, etc.

    Deadlines:

    - Deadline to enter is midnight, Monday, June 20. That gives you only a week to sign up. Please make sure I have your email by then.

    - I will send out writers' assignments by midnight, Monday, June 27th.

    - Stories will be due by midnight, Monday, August 15th.

    - Stories will be available to read by midnight, Monday, August 22nd.

    - and the reveal of the authors of said stories will be on Monday, August 29th.

STORIES MUST BE 1000 WORDS OR LONGER.

    Callum Keith Rennie's films/TV shows

    Paul Gross' films/TV shows

    Most important thing to remember...

As [info]_aeyre_ previously stated, the point of Midsummer Sekrit Santa has been created to make people happy, not stressed. Particularly me. Therefore, in responding to the questions above, keep your answers short and simple, follow the rules, and deliver your story on time, please!
