The Premise
There's a new fad among the population of Rune Midgard and Schwarzwald: The MagiJournals created in a joint effort by the Sage Academy in Juno and the Alchemist Guild in Al de Baran, sponsored by the Kafra Corporation.
Word has it that these journals, which appear to be normal diaries at first, are imbued with magic and linked to a network, maintained collectively by representatives of both countries as well as the Kafra Corp.. Through this network, people can use the journals to communicate regardless of the distance. Anyone with a journal can read what was written by other people, even before they first opened the journals. These journals's pages will never run out, even though they will always be light and easy to carry, and never change their appearance.
Currently the technology is still under development, and therefore the network is a slight bit unstable - because of this, not every journal is linked properly. The MagiJournals are in beta testing phase as the developers perfect the magic technology. During this phase, a few people are being randomly selected and receiving MagiJournals free of charge to help with testing. The names are selected by the Kafra Corporation, and journals are handed out through the Kafra Peco mobile mail system, which mysteriously can locate anyone, anywhere.
The MagiJournal beta testing system is voluntary, and users are kept updated through announcements made by both nations and the Kafra Corporation in the journals themselves.
Recently, the Holy Republic of Arunafeltz has become part of the MagiJournal network, which is sponsored there by the Event Corporation.
