Natalie Morales & the Catsuit

Natalie has been tweeting recently about the catsuit making an appearance in March. Hmmm? Will Special Agent Lauren Cruz will be getting her freak on for White Collar?

Natalie on White Collar and a Mark Dacascos update
Has anybody seen Natalie's first episode of White Collar yet? (It aired last night, but I was at my high school's homecoming game, playing good little alumna.) I think she's supposed to replace the other girl FBI agent that was in the first episode. Of course, I could be wrong... I'm not going to get a chance to watch it for a while, so please let me know if the episode (and Natalie) is good!

I'm really impressed with her character as described by USA: "she has a doctorate from Cambridge and is fluent in five languages." Can't wait to see how that shows up in the show. Additionally, her actor bio mentions Wendy quite a bit - yay!

Additionally, Mark Dacascos is doing really well on Dancing with the Stars, consistently staying right around third-fourth place, which is, I think, only because there are some ringers on the show. However, he's been dancing great, and has been regarded once or twice as having the best of his style of dance on that particular night (the best jitterbug, the best paso doble; that's part of the bad thing about that show, he can have the best jitterbug, but two or three waltzes might be great, which puts Mark in 3rd-4th place. That and I think the judges have their favorites). Mark's YouTube channel has a playlist of all his dances, which you can see here. (Oh, and they show his family every so often. He's got adorable kids.)

This week, Mark's partner Lacey is out with the flu, so he's going to be dancing with another pro on Monday night. Anything could happen, so he could use all the extra votes he can get. You can vote online here.

And happy Halloween everybody! You know this is a holiday that Wendy loves, MM appreciates, and Ida despises.

TV Appearances
I believe that Javi's cameo on the Comic-Con inspired episode of Greek will air this Monday, Oct. 12th, on ABC Family at 9/8c. Also, Eden Sher, who was Cindy Marshall from "The Boy-Band Superfan Interrogation," plays Patricia Heaton's daughter, Sue, on ABC's The Middle. Ah, what a wonderful memory of a supremely naughty joke from that episode of The Middleman: "She wants to suck them all through a hole...(inappropriate pause)...in space!"

Natalie Morales becomes series regular on USA Network's White Collar
This was actually spotted earlier by another Middlefan, but here's the original source from The Hollywood Reporter:

www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i27b2ea26515fca07879f763001bae3cc

I actually figured that Natalie's time on Josh Schwartz' Rockville CA might lead to a guest spot on Chuck, but being a series regular on USA's White Collar might be the next best thing. And, as luck would have it, the ubiquitous Mark Sheppard (Manservant Neville), appears to at least be in the pilot as Curtis Hagen, but I don't know if that means Natalie, as Lauren Cruz, will be sharing any screen time with him by the time her episodes start to come around.

I'm hoping that the series will turn out to be the kind of quirky crime show that warrants sending the cast and creators to Comic-Con, like this year's pop-ins by Bones, Psych, and maybe to a lesser extent, action/adventure shows like Burn Notice and 24 (and when is the caper show Leverage going to drop on by?) Don't get me wrong, Brendan Hines is fine on Lie to Me, but that Fox series is actually pretty strait-laced, which is why they'll probably never make an appearance at Comic-Con.

Anyway, I've got my fingers crossed that Brit Morgan will make a guest appearance on White Collar. After all, I seem to recall that Lacey is wanted in three different states!

The Time-Tossed Famished Farmer

Hmm, how to keep the home fires burning? How about some random silliness that I slapped together?

From the "You Know You're a Middlefan If" File...
I know the last post I made here was about Mark Dacascos, but I swear I am not obsessed with, nor am I stalking him. In any way.*

I've been spending a lot of time watching Food Network, because I am unemployed and bored (and all other daytime TV is crap), and I've noticed that on Iron Chef America, Mark Dacascos has two "Chairman" voices. One is pretty normal, and the other is the "I am Chairman hear me roar!" Both sound like him, with a bit of an exaggerated Asian accent, since ICA's fictional background is that the Chairman is the nephew of the Japanese Chairman.

Both sound eerily like Sensei Ping. (Just with a little less "surly.")

Add that to the fact that when he's about to unveil the secret ingredient, he makes a lot of rapid head turns between the chefs, and they added that whoosh sound that accompanied Sensei Ping's every move... now I have a hard(er) time taking him seriously on the show.

Also, I do have Mark news on the Dancing front, and some pictures have already surfaced in the weeks leading up to the premiere in two-point-something weeks. Let's just say the dude looks darn good in a tux. And here Mark and Lacey show off the Three Terrors. Sounds like his first two dances are the Cha Cha, which he'll do to "Kung Fu Fighting" (I know the songs are supposed to be drawn at random, but I wonder if that was planned), and the Viennese Waltz (in which I hope he'll wear that tux).

*I mean, I can report on how he does on DWTS, but only if you guys are interested.
20 August 2009 @ 08:06 pm
He'll be taking out all competitors with the Wuhan Thumb of Death!
The celebrity line-up of Season 9 of "Dancing With the Stars" was released on Monday, and Mark Dacascos will be one of the stars competing.

Yes, you read that right. Sensei Ping is going to be on DWTS.

He'll be competing against the likes of Aaron Carter, UFC fighter Chuck Liddell, Donny Osmond, Kelly Osbourne, Macy Gray, Melissa Joan Hart, Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin, and former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay.

The season starts September 21 on ABC!

Edit: It's been confirmed (not sure by whom, so take this with a grain of salt) that Mark will be dancing with Lacey Schwimmer. That's got me excited - she's really good.

Middleman Auction at Project Teddybear

Hey, fellow Middlefans! I'm [info]priscellie, the girl dressed as Comic Book Wendy at SDCC09. I'm contacting you on behalf of my good friend Lisa Spodak, who has been raising money for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer since 2002. Over the years, though donations and a series of charity auctions, she has raised nearly $150,000 toward research and providing care and treatment for the under-insured.

What kind of charity auctions, you might ask? Lisa collects autographs and photos of celebrities posing with an Avon Breast Cancer Bear, then auctions off bear, autograph, and 4x6 glossy on eBay. Her latest endeavor is a batch of auctions featuring actors, writers, and creators who are active on Twitter.

Today, an auction featuring the cast of Middleman went live! Bid on a breast cancer bear with autographs and photos from Javier Grillo-Marxuach (our glorious creator), Natalie Morales (Wendy), Matt Keeslar (The Middleman), Brit Morgan (Lacey--not pictured, but included among autographs), Jake Smollett (Noser), Mary Pat Gleason (Ida), and Brendan Hines (Tyler).

As an extra incentive to all the fans of the folks with bears in this batch to help her get the word out, Lisa will be donating an extra $50 to the Avon Walk in the name of whoever's auction brings in the most money!

Let's show how generous and charity-oriented we Middlefans can be! Lacey would want you to. :D

Check it out here, and find out who else is coming up soon at the PTB website. Auction Crawl! *pumps fist*

Random Comic-Con Thoughts & Other Nonsense

In hindsight, I wish that I could have some Comic-Con do-overs. For instance, on the Wednesday Preview Night, I caught a glimpse of Javi as he was leaving the Viper Comics booth, and was thinking to myself, "Dude, he's like with his wife, should I be that a-hole fan that goes up to him and says, 'Hey, Javi, if you're going to do something with The Middleman theme at the table read tomorrow, remind Natalie and Matt to point.'" Sadly, since there was no pointing at the table read, I hereby kick myself.

Ah, the table read itself was a fine example of shock and awesomeness, as there were no announcements or introductions, rather, everyone magically appeared and stormed the stage. Everyone quickly got down to business, and when it was over, a well-deserved standing ovation ensued. When I spoke with Natalie on the following Friday about how I was the one that had yelled out "Art Crawl" as she was being introduced at last year's TV Guide panel, she was ever so slightly disappointed that I, nor any of the other thousand folks in the audience, had yelled it out this year. I'm feeling especially bad, because now I've seen the ABC Family Middleman-ager clips on the DVD. Those appear to have been taped shortly after last year's Comic-Con, when it must have been painfully obvious that Middlefans like to yell out Art Crawl in public, since all of the segments end with that fabled call to arms. Sigh....

I have DVDs!
Today was my own personal Middleday, as I had to wait for my Middleswag. [info]primitiveskin, being completely awesome, agreed to get some goodies for me from Comic-Con, and so it took a few extra days to get here. (In the meantime, I had received my copy from Amazon, but sadly had to send them back.)

And, as [info]taraljc  requested, I am posting pics! )

I didn't get to watch any of it today because it was my grandpa's birthday, and we spent the day at his house with my cousins, but I totally intend on having a Middlethon this weekend. It will be glorious.

Joys & Disappointments of Comic-Con

DVDs weren't available Wed. night. When they were available Thurs., there were only 100 copies, so those flew out the door. They weren't able to restock Fri., so I need to check Sat. if they've got more. Inexplicably, Viper Comics seems to have plenty of copies of the 13th episode GN! Did Viper just do a fabulous job of logistics, or are my fellow Middlefans ignoring the purchase of this one-of-a-kind treasure? Oh, and Shout! Factory seems to be in agreement that if DVD sales warrant it, they may consider re-issuing the DVD as a Blu-ray Disc set, with the live table reading obviously being a ready-made extra feature!

Got to chat with Javi for a little bit. As excited as I was to meet him, he was pleased to be able to attach a face to my screen name. However, this isn't an excuse for some yahoo to try and pass themself off as say, cupidsXXXarrow, on the off-chance that Javi hasn't actually come face-to-face with that person. Javi was full of glee when I showed him my failed guerrilla art project (it didn't work because the table read format just completely threw me off). Anyway, if you ever saw the Javi-cast in which Javi demonstrated that the writers don't communicate with one another verbally, and use little signs instead...that's what I made...35 sets of the Writers' Room Paddle Signs, that I had sprinkled amongst my fellow audience members. So, if the show ever gets revived, true Middlefans should think about slapping together a set of paddle signs of their own.

Natalie was personally disappointed in me when I mentioned that I was the one that had yelled out "Art Crawl" last year, to which she responded by raising her fist up in recognition, and that I had failed to yell it out this year. I had to explain that, as above, the table read format of the panel completely threw me off. Let me further interpret Natalie's disappointment in not hearing an Art Crawl shout-out by inferring that she was severely disappointed in the thousand other people in the audience, since none of them thought about yelling out Art Crawl either. So, this may or may not be an open invitation by Natalie for people to yell out Art Crawl to her, should she get another genre TV/movie gig, just like the Firefly folks can't seem to get away from their undying fan adulation, no matter what their current projects happen to be!
24 July 2009 @ 04:29 pm
My impression is, soon he will be invincible.
Somebody posted five minutes of the table read to YouTube. My guess is that Mark Sheppard really likes his job, and possibly grew up not expecting the Spanish Inquisition. (I.e. diabolical laughter. Diabolical acting.)

Preparations for Comic-Con
Plagued by the perils of procrastination, I'm now halfway to completing my guerrilla art project for the live stage reading of the unproduced 13th episode, "The Doomsday Armageddon Apocalypse," at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. I should be able to finish it off this weekend, and then it'll just be a matter of getting a seat relatively close to the panelists where I can distribute some items to my fellow audience members. Bwa-ha-ha-ha!

I'm having flashbacks to the Javi-Casts, but that's a good thing! So, I post a question on O2STK.com about possible rules of etiquette for "Art Crawl" shout outs, and lo and behold, Jordan Rosenberg (writer of "The Boy-Band Superfan Interrogation" and "The Palindrome Reversal Palindrome") and Andy Reaser (writer of "The Flying Fish Zombification" and "The Vampiric Puppet Lamentation") chime in with their thoughts. Is it any wonder why I love this show so much?

web.me.com/chaodai/O.2.S.T.K./Return_to_The_Middleblog/Entries/2009/6/24_Live_from_The_2009_San_Diego_Comic-Con__The_Middleman!.html

Oh, and I didn't know if Fox was going to do it or not, but now that I know, I'm really looking forward to Saturday's panel for Glee! The Glee pilot was joyful and reminds me of Javi saying that the world of The Middleman is a relatively happy place, albeit with the occasional Red Ball murders that come down from O2STK.

Sight gag
On a re-watch of The Vampiric Puppet Lamentation (1.10) I caught something I've never heard anyone mention before. It's not the typical geek love reference, more of a tv in-joke.

19 minutes in, when Lacey and Pip are outside apartment 5C, a guy gets off the elevator. Over Pip's shoulder, the guy is carrying a paper grocery bag full of baguettes. Isn't it some kind of props rule that if a tv character buys groceries, they have to get at least a baguette and a head of lettuce to poke out from the top of the bag?

Mind you, I have a cribbed rip copy of the episode and I can't zoom or anything. Perhaps it's paint rollers, but I didn't think so. Can anyone check?

The Graphic Novel Aquisition Assignment
Since I will be two time zones (and mass amounts of disposable income) away from ComiCon, I went to a local comic store and asked them to hold the (sigh) last issue of the Middleman comic for me when it comes in. I assume it's Viper Press like the previous outings.

Is there another way to do this? Nothing leaps to mind on the Viper Comic website, and while Amazon has the previous volumes it shows no sign of taking pre-orders. I don't know how large the print run, or the demand, will be and I want to make sure I get one.

This is what I get for having been out of comic collecting for such a sadly long amount of time, I guess. I don't know the ropes any  more.

TBF, who on the other hand still has a first printing "Watchmen" graphic novel and a few issues of "Cerebus" from when it was fun to read.

A tribute to the Wendy/Lacey friendship
So one of my F-Listers posted on her LJ, commenting that, prevalent as "bromances" are on television right now, there just isn't much "sismance" out there. And somehow my mind popped directly to the Middleman. Here's part of what I told my F-Lister. The part that you guys should appreciate. Natalie and Britt just did such a beautiful, moving job of portraying BFFs just like they exist in real life without any of the pettiness and stupidity so much television and movies insists on inserting into female friendships. So, in tribute to Wendy and her friendship with Lacey:

In "The Middleman", Wendy/Lacey fit every description of "hetero life-mates" (how Jay refers to himself and Silent Bob in "Dogma") and it was beautiful to watch those two take comfort from each other or just bask in thier mutual love. Here, have screencaps :)

When Lacey realized Wendy made it in time to see her performance:

Wendy wanting to cry because Lacey wants to:

And one of my favorite scenes between them. This is the female equivlent of "bros before hos" with each woman telling the other that no man is more important to her than her best effing friend in the universe:

Life imitates TV...
Okay, ever since this happened, I've been needing to post this. I wish I still had my "Should I fold, Mr. Bun-Bun?" icon, but whatev.

Thursday was my birthday, and I had some friends and family over for dinner. While it was cooking, my sister's Not-Boyfriend was teaching everybody a card game called Mao. (I was playing Wii with my dad and "uncle.") So I don't quite understand how Mao is played, but it involves a lot of made-up rules, like when you play the 7 you have to say "Have a Nice Day," and sooner or later you have to remember all sorts of rules... I looked over at them and immediately thought, "Holy crap, they're playing Shaboomie."

Now I need to watch "Obsolescent Cryogenic Meltdown" again...

Gobsmackit! We're Not Gonna Take It!

Sigh! It's summer...and Monday...but no fresh episodes of The Middleman on the air. Anyway, I was having some middle-musings, as I am wont to do, about Em-Em's time as a Navy Seal. As I recall it, a mission went horribly awry, and The Middleman made his displeasure known by punching out his commanding officer. Argh! Please have The Middleman come back to us soon, because, Javi, I must know: Was Sexy Bossman's C.O. named...Niedermeyer, as in the ROTC commander from Animal House, who was "killed in Vietnam by his own troops," and, like the soldier said in the John Landis-directed segment of Twilight Zone: The Movie, "I told you guys we shouldn't have shot Lt. Niedermeyer." And finally, since Mark Metcalf, the actor who played Niedermeyer, was also featured in the Twisted Sister music video for "We're Not Gonna Take It," I'm kind of hoping that he would have given Em-Em the "What do you want to do with your life" speech, right before The Middleman cleaned his clock!!!

Who ya gonna call?
So I'm browsing Hero Complex, and I read about two of Dan Aykroyd's current faves for donning jumpsuits as female recruits for the next generation of Ghostbusters in that movie franchise, Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku. Not to besmirch the talents of Alyssa and Eliza, but maybe if the critically acclaimed, but dismally rated, The Middleman, had been more widely seen on ABC Family, it would have been fairly obvious that our own beloved Natalie Morales is a perfect candidate for strapping on the proton pack. Not to typecast Natalie as the go-to girl for action/adventure-comedies (if for example, the Men In Black franchise were to also ever be revived), but we are all familiar with Natalie's Wendy Watson character, who is smart, sexy, funny, and kicks butt! Plus, Natalie already has some bona fides in the form of "The Panhellenic Ectoplasmic Investigation" episode that was chockfull of Ghostbusters references. Of course, I would rather have more new episodes of The Middleman in the pipeline, since the spectrum of bad guys isn't limited to just ghosts (Ghostbusters) or aliens (Men In Black), but if DVD sales aren't enough to wake the TV show up from its Middle-coma, maybe a high profile role for either Natalie or Matt Keeslar will bring non-Middlefans into the fold, once they realize what they missed out on the first time around.

See this hasn't been posted here yet, but got this tweet from Shout Factory showcasing the evolution of the DVD artwork:

Guerrilla Art at Comic-Con
My plan is sheer elegance in its simplicity... I'm thinking about doing a little guerrilla art for The Middleman panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. But, you know...what I'm planning is fairly obvious...the sort of thing that you slap yourself on the forehead and exclaim, "Now, why didn't I think of doing that!" So, I'm curious as to how many of my fellow Middlefans might be picking up on the same psychic vibe and will spontaneously feel compelled to rummage through their art supplies and come up with a like-minded project on their own. Bwahahaha! Art Crawl!

(Please note, I'm not planning on doing anything disruptive such as waving huge signs like Lacey with her "French Cuisine Kills Bunnies" protests...although...that actually would be quite a thing to behold!)

Blood catamite, anyone?
I spotted the Gut Wrencher arcade game on The Mentalist tonight. It appears at exactly the 5 minute mark, of season 1, episode 20, called Red Sauce. It was one of those happy/sad geek out moments, but ultimately it is nice to know bits and pieces of The Middleman's props are around.

I've never wanted to be independently wealthy as much as I do now.
Saaaaaaay. Can I, you know, borrow about 25,000USD?

You guys know I'm good for it, right?

Note the description: "HAS BEEN USE FOR TV SERIES AND MOVIES IN THE STATES..."

I'm just really confused why the hell it's in Australia.

Various questions and one answer
Questions I need answers to as a fanfic writer, and don't want to wait for the DVD release
"Roxie" Wasserman or "Roxy"? I've been assuming the latter.
"Famouse" or "Famuse"?

One question that might be fun to kick around among ourselves
I was reading up on Navy SEALs, who are extremely Badass even when they don't go on to train with Sensei Ping.
But which category would our MM have been, officer or enlisted? Or to word it another way, "joined after college" or "joined after high school?" He's clearly smart and has a large vocabulary, but just being in the habit of reading can get you that far without formal classes.

And an answer
For those who watched at least one specific episode of "Dollhouse." The character name Richard Connell? Is the name of the author who wrote the original "The Most Dangerous Game" in 1924. I happened to run across that detail while reading something else. Just thought I'd mention.

Middlemobile?
I made a short comment on the middleblog, but I doubt I'll get a response. He has things to do besides answer inane questions.

So. I was wondering: What is the middlemobile? As in, real world facts here. I see that it's a Ford, but I don't know anything about older model cars, so I'm at a loss to know what it is he's driving.

Anyone have a link of a breakdown or personal opinion because you're a super-awesome car person?
