[music |silence]

The vanity cats in WoW make me squee. I love watching their little tails and butts bounce when they're running. And I love the fact that the little paws are textured on the bottom, too. I love seeing those little pads flash up into view!

Yay on the girls starting to get along.

Thunder scares my cats.

Foot gave me three different silent meows with eye-scrunchies tonight. It made me feel all gooey inside.

I hate ragweed allergies. They make me grouchy, migrainy, sniffly, ill, and wanting to do nothing but sleep. :/

Yep, even after being pretty much lazy for a whole month, my apartment is still much cleaner than the trailer ever was after the first couple of years. :) My worst vices are not dusting and not always taking the trash out in a timely manner (not overflowing, but I do press the breaking point of the bags sometimes...). Leaving the dishes overnight is my third vice (but they always get cleaned before I head off to work because I don't want maintenance seeing ugly stuff in the sink).

Got my yearly eval. Getting full amount of available payraise. only 3%, but it's better than no payraise at all (possible in this economy and with the hospital being in between owners), or, you know, not having a job at all. Also--attitude still improving. Still needs a little work, but it's lightyears above what it was even last year this time after a few months away from the ex. Maybe in another year or two, I'll actually be the not-so-pissy person I once was...(or at least think I was...^^;).

Looking forward to cooler weather.

I has LOTS of cat and human food in the house, and a decent start on Ula's vet fund. :)

Three paydays this month. That, plus raise, makes all things good.

Good news from Iraq! [Oct. 6th, 2008|06:37 pm]

wishwords
When L got home, we decided to go back to Circuit City and buy the laptop and a desktop. I looked over at a display of bags and realized that I recognized the person standing in front of them. It was Prince! Not the musician, Prince Charles Stevens III who I worked with in Iraq. We had a nice long talk about how he's doing. I was very happy to hear that he's doing great. He married his girlfriend, moved to a town north of Houston, and when he couldn't find a job here he got one with LSI back in Iraq working on military vehicles. It's a job he really likes. It's so good to hear that people are doing well.

Btw, when we walked into the computer section, the young guy who had ignored me earlier today was there talking to one of the technicians. The tech came over to help us while the young guy went to help the cute young chick who was looking at laptops with her boyfriend. The cute young chick didn't buy anything. We bought two systems. When will young people learn that it's the old people who have all the money?

The FireDog guys are cleaning up and tweaking our systems. I got to talk to the tech who will be doing it and told him what software I already have, so he can get rid of a lot of the crap that comes with new systems. I'll pick everything up tomorrow. I think I'm going to keep one of the laptops as a backup and donate the other one after I shred the data.

Grrr. [Oct. 6th, 2008|11:36 am]

wishwords
I stopped by Circuit City to look at the laptop model that I've picked out on-line. I figured if it met up to my expectations, I'd go ahead and buy it. There were two salespeople who were waiting on two customers. I waited patiently on a stool in the middle of the computer area. One salesperson finished with his customer and started talking with an employee in a green shirt (customer service? supervisor?) right behind me. The second salesperson finished and joined them. I was the only customer there at this point. I was very obviously waiting to be helped. They were the only two salespeople so they couldn't have thought that someone else was waiting on me. I stood up; they glanced at me and continued to chat; I informed them that they'd just lost a sale and walked out.

I haven't decided if I should try my luck again tomorrow, go to Best Buy, or order the laptop on-line without seeing it. I've thought about going in tomorrow, checking out the laptop, telling the clerk that I refuse to help him get a commission after what happened today, and order it on-line. But that would be mean.

Various stuff [Oct. 5th, 2008|05:36 pm]

wishwords
1) I did an f-list purge, mostly dead journals, fandom only journals, twitter only journals, and journals of people who have just drifted into other interests that I don't share. I'm hoping to be able to comment more often now that I have fewer journals to read.

2) Yesterday, we took Tanner to the property with us. There were so many exciting things for him, smells, cockle burrs... He acted a right fool and got spoken to sharply. I can't blame him, but he has to remember to listen to us out there. I would just die if a hawk swooped down and got him, or a cow stepped on him.

I saw a 6' bull snake while mowing the yard. We both screamed and went the other way.

We have a beautiful picture of a doe nursing her twin fawns. I'll try to get it uploaded soon. Due to the drought, the deer are too thin to hunt this year despite us feeding them corn. The hogs, however, are enormous. Looks like we will be hunting hogs. Actually, there's no season on hogs. We can hunt them any time because they are considered vermin, but there's a huge buildup to hunting season that's... weird. Pig works for Thanksgiving, yeah?

3) Today we celebrated Mom's birthday. It was great. I met my nephew's girlfriend (thought that would never happen). My b-in-law teased my husband. My brother gave me a t-shirt. They loved the roasted veggies and the black forest cake I made. Mom's husband was having a good day and got around pretty well. I love my family.

4) All next week I get to attend on-line workshops and writing related chats. I'm looking forward to it. One of them is on organizing your writing life. Just reading the handout has enlightened me to how badly I've slacked. There will be some changes made.

[mood | happy]

The first couple of days at FenCon have been great!  Tons of people, fun panels, and great costumes.

Here's our little spot in the dealer's room:

I have to admit; I feel so spoiled.  I'm in a comfy, air conditioned room, wearing jeans instead of a bulky costume, and there's free refreshments for the asking. It's amazing.

So if you have a free day today, come out and see us!  FenCon is running til 4pm today.

[mood |tired and stuffed]

Today was our church's fall festival--and while we can't quite seem to get the Halloween out of the fall fest--it was a right fun time.

First was the food. Hamburgers and sloppy joes, which weren't quite to my taste, but I had potato chips with dip for the first time in ages, and boy, were they good. Simple pleasures, you know. There were also loads of desserts, but we were told to hold off on them, because there was to be a bakeoff later. There were door prizes and games as well.

Read more... ) So, basically a good time was had by all, and I got swag that, if my sister takes the canister off my hands, won't add to my clutter.

But, alas, the food probably will add to my hips. And I'd just reached my first diet goal. *sighs*

Oh, and the baking contest? My mom's brownies won. And they were from a mix!

October Challenge [Oct. 4th, 2008|09:57 am]

Today's entry comes from the wayback machine.  On a family trip in early June of 2000, we went to a museum just outside of Calais.  This museum is actually one of the bunkers used to shell Dover by the Nazis.  I really need to rescan the negative as this photo was scanned at the photo shop with far lower resolution scanners than are available today.  In the mean time, I'm still rather proud of the postcard look this has.  Also, the colors are basically true; the sky was that blue and the grass was that yellow green.

[music |dish washer]

I made a couple more gold (actually, several, but even in my Quest For The Kitty, I spent money on upgrades and available skills, so I set myself back by at least one or two).

So, I'm up to three, almost four gold.

The Cornish is still there. BUT, the buy out price went from 5 gold to 6. (*Cries*). Same person also put up several Siamese carriers. Where she got 'em all, I dunno, but O.o. Those are still all at 5 gold buyout instead. So...we'll see. Maybe it'll be a meezer I get Ari instead.

And OH SHIT, I almost ran smack into Luz while doing a run down the middle of the Scar (got a quest where I need to get into some buildings there)! And just as I saw him, we got jumped by two zombies, and of course, I was trying to run, but Elder was already engaged, and why the hell doesn't Call Pet work when you're trying to run and get your pet off a target so you can do so??? BECAUSE IT SHOULD!!!!!

*Gasp wheeze*

Anyhow, I got back to Elder, and we managed to finish the fight and get out before Luz noticed us, but it was an interesting few seconds, let me tell you. o.O

Anyhow, I'm half blind with exhaustion now, so to bed with me. I can raise more kitty gold after some sleep. :)
