media console help [13 Mar 2009|10:31pm]

[ mood | curious ]

Hi everyone,

I am moving into a condo I just purchased recently and am excited to decorate since I will be living alone and everything will be my style! (Of course I will post pictures when I am done!)

I have been looking high and low for a midcentury inspired media console and am having such a hard time!

Everything in the room is low to the ground so I am looking for something on the shorter side so a credenza would be a little too tall to put a TV on. I have tried IKEA and can't really find anything i like.

I do like this one from CB2: http://www.cb2.com/family.aspx?c=118&f=4677&viewall=1

Just curious if anyone knows of anything. I am open to all styles as long as it is shorter (legs are ok too) so please respond with anything you may have seen..all these furniture sites are making me dizzy! :)

I found this on craigslist. I have been looking for a sideboard/hutch online, however, I'm not an expert in ~furniture~ and ~pricing~

Any input would be nice. thanks

In your opinion, is this a genuine Paul McCobb Planner Group desk? I haven't seen it in person. I compared it to some furniture on 1stdibs and I'm undecided.

The desk is for sale for only $35!

Hello everyone!

I recently got a mid-century modern chair. The person I bought it from swore up and down it was a Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin scoop chair. It is definitely a scoop chair, but I think it might be in the style of Milo Baughman by someone else. All of the scoop chairs I have seen by Baughman have some form of chrome legs and these are wooden - I think teak. I got this chair very very cheaply as someone, somewhere along the line did a truly atrocious reupholster job.

So, two questions:

1) Do you think it is actually a Milo Baughman chair? (not that I care, since it was super cheap and I bought it because it's SUPER comfortable for reading and has great lines, but it would be nice to know).

and

2) If it is a Milo Baughman chair, what do you think it would have been upholstered with originally? I am going to redo the chair, and I want to be true to the style. In a way, it is freeing that it has been badly reupholstered because it means I don't feel bad tearing it down and starting from scratch again! :)

Mid-Century Mod Dining Table, Chairs & Benches Set [18 Jan 2009|05:25am]

neat_and_pretty
Here are some photographs of the Mid-Century Modern Benches from the Dining set my husband picked up on Saturday for just £20 in a junk shop in Newcastle.

The set comprises of two benches with storage space inside each, two chairs and a square'ish table. Wood surround, mustard or sand colour vinyl padded seating and white steel square frame. Everything looka symmetrical right down to the position of the bolts at the back and under side.

From what I already know from previous studies and a general love of all things retro, I would date these from around 1956 - 1965 in the Florence Knoll styling but if anyone can elaborate on this we would be very grateful.

There is a very faint stamp underneath each piece which appears to read "77 Made In England" with something else underneath but it is too faint to make out.

All information greatly appreciated as we just love these and they are going to take pride of place as our dining seating in our kitchen that we are still remodelling in the Panton era style with many original items included.

Let the light shine in! [07 Jan 2009|08:27pm]

I got this beauty off Ebay almost two months ago for my birthday. I had been bidding on others like these and it kept going out of my range. Got this with shipping for under $200. When it finally arrived two of the arms had broken at the weld off the ball and I could not find anyone to fix them. Distraught with the thought of giving it to the post office for the insurance only to have them throw it away, I left it on my all-fixing Dad's workbench in his most amazing shop.

Light [29 Sep 2008|04:57am]

Hey All,

If this is an inappropriate question, please delete.

I am trying to find the name of a light fixture I remember at my Aunts house when I was a kid...

It hung from the ceiling and was 6-7' tall. Made of translucent shells strung together vertically, with the lighting at the top the whole thing glowed and made the best sound.

Any help?

Thanks!

i've been collecting and restoring Mid-Century furniture for a while now, now that i finally have my own house instead of a crappy apartment i can show off all of my wonderful pieces...
(i sound like a proud father ;) )

Some shots of my living room currently to start things off...

points of interest include the 50's dining table missing the leaf so i converted it to a coffee table...

and the mahogany wardrobe from the 40's converted into an entertainment center...

i also have my vintage camera collection on display in the old shell of and antique time clock that was completely sanded and re-stained to be a curio cabinet, as well as the old blue Scandinavian chair...

up next my new pride and joy, the dining room...

great mid-century / atomic age dining room set i got off of ebay, the person would only allow local pickup of the 9pc set so i got it for a song ($300!!)

all mahogany, pieces in all, 6 chairs, two credenzas, the table with leaf, and the cabinet topper for the one credenza... i was amazed i was able to get it for so cheap seeing as similar sets have gone for ten times as much easy... i just chalk it up to great fortune, and doing searches for mid-century furniture on ebay with pickup only selected and sorted by distance...

Hope you all enjoyed!

Hey all, my name is Kerri, I'm 22 and a college senior from Eastern Kentucky. I moved into my first apartment with my boyfriend a few months ago, and it is coming along quite nicely. Just wanted to share some of the mid-century treasures I've found on my endeavor to decorate. It is quite picture heavy and the quality isn't amazing as I took them with my phone. I hope you'll enjoy them just the same. =]

Sixties Original Sputnik Light Fitting [11 Sep 2008|08:38pm]

neat_and_pretty
[ mood | excited ]

Look what I just bought for the new kitchen to go above the dining table

An original 1960's chrome and glass light fitting very much from the Sputnik Panton era

This thing is 65cm x 65cm and has eighteen glass globes all over it, absolutely stunning.

The kitchen refit is coming along ok at the planning, accessories and buying level, workmanship so far leaves a lot to be desired but we are working on that. Taken lots of before photographs and will have some after ones too for when we are done.

It is all very exciting and I am made up to have won and bought this light fitting, an original which is always a bonus. Next on my list of things to acquire are the Panton era dining chairs. They are just fabulous and I am on the search for a good price because there are eight of us in our family, myself and my husband with our six children too, so they are working out a bit pricey at the moment. Found some gorgeous looking Panton chairs now searching for a good price for them.

Not sure where this came from originally, it was some awful floral pattern, but now reupholstered with a more modern fabric for a very Mad Men esque feel

of course the embedded pictures don't work...

Question re: mass market oil painting [04 Sep 2008|09:19pm]

kitschicat
[ mood | hopeful ]

I'm hoping members here can help me to recall a painting that hung on my grandparent's living room wall, and that I've seen plenty of times since, but I am unable to remember the name of the artist. This was a large mass-market oil painting, I believe it originated in the early 1960's, featuring an abstract city-scape, it may in fact be NYC, but I'm not sure about that bit. It was done in shades of blues and greens and commonly hung behind the sofa or above the mantel. I'm sure most everyone who appreciates the era has seen a copy of it at some point.

A little help, please? I've been able to remember this at any other time, but not tonight, and it's driving me batty!

Thanks very much.

EDIT: I found a photo of it:

Can you identify the Hippie chairs?!?! [19 Aug 2008|02:01pm]

thirteenrocks
I recently purchsed two chairs at an antique show that were told to me, they were hippie lounge chairs. They have leather straps on them, for easy carry, and are pretty solid. I don't know anything about them. The straps don't come off, and they are super comfortable. I have 2.

Secondly, for pure fun, a pair of plastic lips-that is a chair/love seat. Fabulouse!

Thanks for the help:

What is it!? [28 Jun 2008|11:59am]

goddessofjoi
Hi everyone. The people at [info]saucyhelp suggested I post this here. I'm looking for more information on this:

Like what is it called? who made it? Where there variations? where can I get more information.

Personally I'm skeptical that this is a midcentury piece and not just a midcentury INSPIRED piece but either way, I'd love to get my hands on one, or see more pictures to try and DIY something up myself.

Thanks in advance!
