AboutThis community is dedicated to discussing life in the Middle East. It is particularly for foreigners here, but in keeping with Arab hospitality, all are welcome to join.
The focus is on life, culture, experiences, and anything else here. It is not intended as a forum for political discussions. This isn't to say that the topic of politics is banned, but the point of this community isn't to debate the practicalities of a separate Palestinian state or whether Bush should be in Iraq except insofar as it directly relates to the day-to-day life here.
As mentioned before, anyone is welcome to join (be they natives, former mid-eastern residents, people hoping to move here, or people who are simply interested in learning what it's really like instead of what you hear on the news.) The only request we have is that you introduce yourself when you join (because it's nice to know who's out there) and tell where you are living and why you're interested.
Also, I'd like to have a collection of descriptions/experiences in the memories that newbies can read to learn more about life here. Unfortunately, I may not always think about adding particularly noteworthy posts to the memories. So if you post something you think is worth saving for posterity, feel free to suggest it (ie, "could we add this to the memories?")
