Last night I found a Healthy Choice meal appealing enough to buy. Today “Chicken In Roasted Red Pepper Alfredo Sauce” went up on the chopping block.

Molly Says: After doing some online research on Healthy Choice meals, I realized that my local grocery store has a very poor selection. I hadn’t seen any Healthy Choice meal that caught my eye until last night. The “Chicken In Roasted Red Pepper Alfredo Sauce” meal was very low in calories and looked reasonably tasty. I bought it last night and ate it today for lunch. I was thrilled that there was a side of broccoli with the meal. The broccoli didn’t disappoint but unfortunately the entrée did. The texture of the chicken was familiar, but I couldn’t put my finger on it at first. Finally I realized what I was eating. The chicken in this dish was identical to the spongy, flavorless chicken “Tenders” Tim Horton’s uses in their “Grilled Chicken Sandwiches”. This chicken introduced itself as “grilled” as well, though I didn’t see a single grill mark on any of the three large pieces. These “tenders” were, without a doubt, white meat (Paste? Pieces?), assembled in such a way that they would resemble chicken “tenders”. That’s right folks, these weren’t tenders at all. The sauce was fairly bland and watery (I would feel confident saying that the “watery”-ness was excreted by the chicken while microwaving). I could really taste the roasted red pepper flavor, but the sauce didn’t resemble cheesy alfredo sauce whatsoever. The noodles were pretty bland and scarce. I didn’t have any issue with their texture, just that there weren’t enough to make up for the rest of the dish. I won’t buy this dish again, despite its low calorie and points value, but I am willing to give Healthy Choice meals a second chance. I’m still keeping my eye out for their chicken alfredo meal, as suggested by Thomasirvin.
I give Healthy Choice “Chicken In Roasted Red Pepper Alfredo Sauce” * * 2 of 5 stars For its yummy broccoli, small linguini portion, spongy (watery, flavorless, UN-GRILLED) chicken “tenders”, and cheese-less alfredo sauce. |

Why is Healthy Choice so consistently crappy? I think it's more disappointing than Michelina's because you don't have as high expectations with Michelina's.
If that chicken is any indication of what is to come then I agree with you whole heartedly. | |
