so i am looking to buy a new/used car sometime soon and last night i had an absolutely horrible experience with a dealer in the area. basically they did not seem to understand that i was just trying to get information and find out how much it would cost me. i felt so pressured and it was just really sucky.
so, the point of this post is have any of you bought cars in the lansing area and had really helpful experiences with understanding salesman who don't pressure the hell out of you?
thanks for any advice you guys have :-D |

| Book Renting Update |
[Aug. 15th, 2008|07:34 am] |
All three relpies I've gotten so far about chegg.com are from brand new accounts with nothing on them. Just going by this, I'd say something is fishy and avoid the site. Just letting people know if they checked it out and thought it sounded good.
I didn't think anything with the first two comments, they sounded like something anyone would say, but the third was very much a bot/person working for the company who is trying too hard to get business. |

| Come see the closing week of TALLEY'S FOLLY! |
[Jul. 31st, 2008|10:56 am] |
So we'll be closing Talley's Folly on Sunday, and it's been a great run. The cast, crew, designers and director all did some wonderful work on this show, and audiences have loved the show. The remaining performances are from Thursday 7/31 through Sunday 8/3! Come on out and see the show! 517 655 7469 is the box office number!
Now we're starting work on next season, and right now we're in pre-production for Leaving Iowa.
The set model of Leaving Iowa, coming soon to Williamston Theatre
Set Design and model by Vince Mountain. (Click the pic to see it bigger!)
I'm a big fan of this set - a raked stage, that's a row of wheat along the back wall, and right behind that are 4 "sky" panels. The show moves so many places, including a lot of scenes in a car, that the furniture will consist of 4 small stools that will come and go as needed. (Oh, and one small table!)
I like Vince's models, he always includes some of the surrounding theatre space and audience members, so you get a nice feel for the perspective and scale of the set and how it will feel once you get the real thing in place.

| Moving Sale |
[Jul. 20th, 2008|03:21 pm] |
I'm offering the following for best offer (even if that offer is $0).
Kitchen Table - Wood and rectangular. Has leaf. Without leaf it fits 4 easily but could probably fit 6 without the leaf. Never put it in so I'm not sure how big it is with the leaf. I'd like to keep it but can't. It's in pretty good condition and has two chairs (the other two broke).
Couch - Its a tealish blend. I also like this, but its too big to move. It has a pull out bed. Its a little dirty, but a vacuuming of it will take care of that. Its comfy.
Bookshelves - 1 Tall painted Blue and 1 short fake wood
Desk - White fake wood desk with two drawers and a hutch. Not too small, not too large.
Dresser- Skinny, tall one with cubed drawers.
Vases- a selection of random vases
lazy susan - red
Lamps - one has a heart shaped base (metal and black)
candle holders- match the lamp above
Entertainment center - Large can fit a 26 inch tv and lots of storage. painted blue.
I am currently in Pittsburgh and I have no pictures here. Sorry.
We move out the 24th so contact me asap. Thanks. |

| AmeriCorps... |
[Jul. 13th, 2008|05:16 pm] |
Has anyone here done any work with AmeriCorps*VISTA? I found out that there is a program near my hometown where I could live at home and work (thereby actually being able to afford my bills, etc.), but I don't know anyone who has done AmeriCorps.
Thoughts?

| | she & him | ] | So, it's finals week for the first session of summer classes and I've found myself with a paper to write. I'm a night owl (or should I say, early-riser) who likes to nap in the evening and work on my papers between 10pm and 4am at the library. Unfortunately, summer hours at the library suck and don't allow for this schedule.
Can anyone suggest any 24 hour coffee shops near campus which have free wireless internet? I know there's the Beaner's on Michigan Ave, but that place always seems to be packed. And there's Theio's, but I'm skeptical, because I tend to hear of people going there after a night at the bar. Thoughts? |

| Political training for free! |
[May. 22nd, 2008|11:47 am] |
|
Hey everyone!
The Leadership institute will be hosting a Grassroots campaign school in Lansing on June 21st, and I was just posting to see if anyone would be interested in attending. The Grassroots Campaign School teaches political candidates, staff, and volunteers how to identify and get to the polls the extra percentage of the vote necessary for victory. It's also a great resume builder.
Well anyways, it's FREE, and includes dinner and materials from the one day of class(free food is always a good thing ><).
If you would like to register go to: http://www.leadershipinstitute.org/Training/?PageID=School&SchoolID=13769 and click on Register which will be in blue towards the bottom.
Adois! |

| Help Save Valley Court Park and Downtown EL! |
[May. 20th, 2008|09:04 am] |
Hi Everyone,
If you live in East Lansing (or mid-Michigan), you've probably heard about the City Center II project that is slated to be built in downtown EL. What you might not have heard about are the detriments of this project. Here's a short list:
- the new building would significantly dwarf everything else around it, including a beautiful EL landmark, the People's Church. The 10 story building would actually appear more like a 13-story building because of the design.
- the new building has condos only, and no rentals for students. These condos do not have enough room for families either, and are being advertised as housing for "young, single professionals and the elderly." A similar project which is currently being built in EL (the Albert Place Condos) have sold less than HALF of the available units, with very few prospective buyers in sight.
- the extension of Albert Rd. and the new parking garage will actually increase traffic into the Valley Court neighborhood, bring a steady stream of cars very close to a preschool and the Valley Court Park. This is the opposite direction from a more green, accessible, and walkable East Lansing. The new traffic patterns will also change the layouts and activities of two major downtown EL events: the EL Arts Festival, and the Great Lakes Folk Fest. To my knowlegde, no studies have yet been done (or considered) as to how the increased traffic will affect pollution and the neighborhood's environment.
- the main tenant of the largest building, the MSU Museum, has pulled out of the project and opted to stay on campus. The developers have tried to fill the void with plans for a downtown theater, and refuse to modify the current project even though the purpose has changed.
If this sounds like a bad idea to you, PLEASE write or email the East Lansing City Council members ASAP!!! This project will especially affect those who live in EL, Lansing, and who go to MSU, but the city is also considering opinions from outside of EL. MSU Alumni are especially encouraged to give their opinions of the project. For more information, please visit the following website:
www.eastlansinginfo.org
Also, people are encouraged to attend the City Council meetings, which are today (Tuesday, May 20), May 27, and June 3 at 7:00 at City Hall. If the project is NOT stopped or modified, the development company looks to break ground in July, and will affect everyone coming to MSU in autumn! |

| Help an MSU student get on the LJ advisory board! |
[May. 14th, 2008|11:22 am] |
I am currently running for LiveJournal's user advisory board! The elections for the LiveJournal user representatives are intended to provide the unique perspective of the community of LiveJournal. Although there will still be at least one more appointed member, the Advisory Board will be a small group (seven to nine members) which is able to discuss and provide advice on any topic which is now, or becomes in the future, important to LiveJournal.
I just graduated from MSU with a degree in Professional Writing (one of my specializations is Digital Design & Web Authoring, so I know quite a bit about websites). I've been blogging for almost as long as I can remember and I feel that I would be a great asset to the advisory board.
I need 100 votes before the end of tomorrow, and right now I only have 26. To really help support me you could encourage your friends with Livejournals to vote for me too. :)
All it takes is a livejournal comment on the following entry: http://community.livejournal.com/lj_election_en/19636.html.
LiveJournal Advisory Board Elections Kristen rocks! I support pixiemab to be my representative on the Advisory Board. Show your support. |

| Academic Standing |
[Apr. 29th, 2008|05:45 pm] |
I'm a junior whose always been in good standing. But this last semester has been very bad, and with me failing one class completely, I'm expecting my semester GPA to be a 2.0. But that's just what I'm expecting. It might be lower. Now my cumulitive over all the semesters I've been here shouldn't drop much lower than a 3.0 I don't think.
This is what I found on the website about academic standing Probation A student is on probation if during the most recent previous semester in attendance, the student had been in good standing, but at the end of that semester the cumulative grade–point average was below 2.00. Grades of I and ET are not considered in computing this grade–point average. The period of probation is one semester. (If in the special case that there are grade changes during that semester which result in the student's cumulative grade–point average increasing to at least a 2.00, the student is returned to good standing.) Students on probation may be required to see an academic adviser. If they do not, a hold may be placed on their registration. If at the end of that semester, the cumulative grade–point average is at least 2.00, the student is returned to good standing. If not, the student will be put on final probation or recessed.
Does that mean 2.00 for the semester or 2.00 cumulative for all semesters so far? Cause if it means cumulative from all semesters, I have nothing to worry about, according to my math I could fail all my classes right now and it would only bring my cumulative down to a 2.7. And that isn't going to happen.
But if I were to be put on academic probation, does anyone know if this will affect my financial aid?
Sorry, I'm just freaking out a little because I've never done anywhere near this poorly before, and I need financial aid to keep going to school. Thanks for any help in advance :) |

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if i need to do anything before i transfer? Do i need to let a certain office know? i obviously haven't done anything with signing up for classes or financial aid, but i'm figuring i need to do something more than just that. If anyone could fill me in that'd be wonderful. i'm apparently really retarded for leaving this until finals week to figure this out. go me. thanks guys! |

| Summer move-in? |
[Apr. 21st, 2008|10:59 pm] |
|
Does anybody know when you can move into the dorms for the 1st session of the summer semester? I've looked on the MSU webpage and I even looked at my summer housing contract, but unless I'm completely unobservent (which, knowing me, is completely possible), I can't find it anywhere. Can you move in once you're done with exams for spring, do you have to wait until the next week, or is it even later than that? Any help would be awesome - thanks! |

[Apr. 16th, 2008|03:14 pm] |
Has anyone been able to get into a filled course? How hard is this?
I should be graduating next spring, and I've been working on a WGSJ specialization. The last course I need to take for the women and conflict/violence specialization is WS violence against women and children. But by the time I was able to register, the course was already filled. Now I know the whole just keep trying and see if someone drops. But if I can't take it next spring, I can't ever take it. So if that plan fails I'm curious what experiences people have had for getting into filled classes. I know I've heard students ask professors about it before. Does anyone have advice on how to go about asking that?
Thanks in advance :) |

I'm interested in getting cpr certification, but I'm not really sure how to go about it. If I take KIN 125 would I automatically get cpr certification or would I also need to take a test? I don't really need any more credits so is it just easier and cheaper to take a cpr class through somewhere else? If so where? |
