About:

Show us your pictures of the great state of Michigan around you and as you see it. Both unaltered photographs and artistically manipulated ones are equally welcome, as are paintings, drawings, and all other visual art forms including crafts, as long as they portray an appropriate theme. This is about the world both as it is and as you see it and experience it, so be as artistic as you want. Even abstracts are welcome as long as you explain how they illustrate some aspect of Michigan to you. Images of both nature and humans are welcome here. The landmarks and tourist sights as well as the everyday. We want to see your backyard, the road you take to work or school, the sky above, the plants and animals and people you share your day with just as much as your travel pictures of the Michigan's wonders. Keep in mind that the everyday to you might be the exotic to citizens elsewhere in the state. Both the shiny and new and the decayed and abandoned are welcome here. Also welcome are any old or historical photos that you or your family may have. This is the place to show off your part of Michigan and tell us about how you fit into it. We want to see beauty, but we aren't afraid of the ugly and know that there is beauty even there. We know there is good and bad in every place. Don't be afraid to show and tell us both. While we love the artistic, creative, and the fantastic, snapshots are just as welcome. Don't let fears about your skills keep you from posting. Only you can show us Michigan as you see it!

COMMENTING RULES:
1. DO comment often! You don't have to be a literary genius. Just a simple "I like it" or "wow" is okay. Though of course more insightful comments are always appreciated.
2. DO comment positively. This is not a community for rudeness, negativity, or criticism even if constructive. Negative commenters will be warned, and, if they persist, banned.
3. DO be polite. The posters will share the locations of their finds or their artistic methods with you if they desire in their post. If they don't, assume they want to keep their secrets to themselves. Don't ask rude questions!

POSTING RULES:
1. DO reply to all positive comments. At the very least, a thank you is required.
2. DO keep all images to a reasonable size both in pixels and kilobytes, neither too big or too small to see clearly. No tiny thumbnails. Many free image editing programs including The Gimp will resize your photos for you as well as most online photo hosts. No excuses here.
3. DO use an LJ cut for multiple or large images or if the text portion of the entry is long. No more than three images before the cut. The LJ FAQ explains how to make LJ cuts. No excuses here either.
4. DO keep posts to less than fifteen images. Use multiple posts if you have more.
5. DO feel free to write any text you wish to accompany the image that you feel helps explain what or where it is or how it relates to how you see Michigan and your place in it.
6. DO make sure that your LJ user icon and your name are visible and not hidden behind your images. We want to get to know you and your viewpoint.
7. DO at least tell us the general area the image is from: area, city, county, peninsula, something. It's up to you how specific you want to be. You don't have to tell everyone where your great find is exactly or explain your artistic methods in detail unless you want to. You also don't have to answer questions about those topics from commenters.
8. DO NOT post any nudity or suggestive pictures of any kind whatsoever!
