About Groovy Tuesday... [15 Jun 2009|10:40pm]

albadore

What exactly is a Groovy Tuesday?

Groovy Tuesday is the continuation of a cosmic line of force that runs through the area of space-time currently identified as the Loft in downtown Flint on Tuesday nights from 9pm til 2am. At different points it was the same day or different days, and the same bar or different bars, or the same bar with different names. It has always, however, been groovy. An eclectic mixture of quality music from the distant past and the immediate future. Blues, Jazz, Retro, Alternative Rock, Reggae, Trip-hop, Alt Hip-hop, Electronica, Psychedelia, Alt Country, Soul, Disco, College Rock, Punk Rock, New Wave, Electro, Ambient House, Techno, Space Rock, Classic Rock, Rhythm and Blues, Rockabilly, Garage Rock, Funk, Ska, Glam Rock, and I could go on and on. All mixed together with groove, good intentions and positive vibrations.

It will be different every time. That much I can promise.

Who is Groovy Tuesday?

Groovy Tuesday is DJ Michael A, or has been for over 20 years in the downtown area. It is also Dusty Brill, who makes various liquids into magic. Most importantly, it is YOU, the open-minded and beautiful Groovy People. Without receptive antennae, this radio may as well be broadcasting static.

Where is Groovy Tuesday?

The Loft, on the bricks in downtown Flint, entrances on Saginaw Street and Buckham Alley.

Why is Groovy Tuesday?

Because there is so much of the same all over the place, and somebody needs to bring you something different. Because its important to be surprised sometimes. Because its fun. Because your friends are cool, open-minded and groovy too, and that's where they will be.

When is Groovy Tuesday?

Tuesday. Geez.

Moving, need advice [19 Apr 2009|07:47pm]

mopalia
Greetings!  I'm an older (much older) female graduate student who will be doing an internship at the Henry Ford this summer.  I need housing for myself and my cat.  Studio or 1 bedroom, house or apartment, furnished or unfurnished are all ok. (even though I'll have only what fits in a station wagon.)  I don't know the neighborhoods, so I don't have a handle on good places (i.e. safe) to look.  I'll need something from about June 1 through mid- or late September, although I might stay longer. I'll also be writing a thesis, so quiet is very important - so, no sharing.  Any comments or advice appreciated:  I could pay a finders fee for help in locating a place.  You can check me out at my LJ.  Kind, loyal, pays bills on time.  No leaping buildings in a single bound, though.  Will do yard maintenance. Help!  And thanks - I'm looking forward to a change from California.

And if this isn't a good place to post this, I'd appreciate suggestions as to where would be better.  TIA.

This is the text of the email I just sent to the above website:

Using our economic struggles to publicize your slightly better economy is roughly like going up to every girl in a bar and yelling "Hey, at least I'm not as ugly as THAT guy." Its rude, its weak, and comes across as sad and desperate.

And guess what, you're still going home alone, Ottawa.

No offense to any of my friends who may be from Ottawa (I'm sure most Ottawa natives that aren't involved with thisaintflint.ca are wonderful people), but that site got my back up. We can talk about our problems all we want, but don't YOU slag off my city.

Flint Journal Food Writer and former Mott Community College instructor Cy Leder dies at age 82

I had Cy as a Journalism teacher back in the 80s. Not only did I learn a lot about writing from him, but through his passionate espousal of journalistic ethics, I learned a great deal about ethical thinking in general. I'm glad I got to know him, and I am proud to say that his example was an inspiration to me.

Selling a bunch of stuff in this journal! [16 Mar 2009|06:25pm]

tokeloshe
Okay. This is a selling journal. I live in Wyandotte and I just kind of... want to get rid of all this stuff, really. There are a lot of video games, anime, manga, DVDs, and a crapton of CDs (though I may choose to part with more soon). I'm willing to cut you a deal if you live in the area and I'm available almost any hour for pick-ups or whatever.

I also have a really nice Stella McCartney LeSportsac purse--with tags still on it (it was a birthday gift that I'm just not digging). It's retailed for $325 and and I'm asking $125 or best offer--trades accepted.

So help me out, people.
