The nascent community for radical bloggers!
[info]add_a_radical is a community in which its purpose is to link individuals together with common interests in the political spectrum--in particular the radical and revolutionary edges of the table. I created this community in the hopes of making new friends with similar views; as well as having the chance to meet different people who have varying experiences in life. I feel everyone should have a priority in their life that demands for them to speak their mind, and exercise freedom of expression and 'out of the box' thinking. I feel that most of the "Add_me" communities meant for meeting new writers on livejournal are somewhat lacking in these uniting interests, and thus, have felt obliged to create such a community as this one.

Hopefully this community will prove useful as a resource for activists and thinkers to meet new bloggers with common ideas.

Thank you for taking the time to read your invitation to the LRNC!

    Tonight's debate
So... how do you think it'll go tonight?

By the way, dunno if any of you guys remember who the Emergency Broadcast Network were, but they were this sort of political leaning art group... and now they're called Eclectic-method...

anyway, they did this video remix of InnerPartySystem's "Don't Stop" video that is very very very timely for tonight's debate.

    Check it:

And then you can do your own remix:

Who is to Blame for 'W'?
I have a friend who doesn't vote on the principle that none of the candidates actually fit his view AND the entire process is corrupt.

I can't really argue with him so I support him.  It isn't support I'm thrilled to give, but I do honestly support his decision.

I do also firmly believe voting for Nader (or any other independent) during this race is a very critical vote and very risky.  Mostly because it is rarely a republican that threatens to vote independent and more often then not a democrat.  For me, as a democrat that poses a problem.

As for Nader instead of whichever Democrat gets it... well, I do believe that every vote is a force with an equal and opposite reaction.  If the vote for Nader is because you disagree with the republican candidate's platform AND you disagree with the democrat candidate's platform  but you actually AGREE with Nader's... then he should get your vote.  But if the vote for Nader is because you think the dems and reps are out to 'fix' the game or 'screw' the voter... then voting for Nader doesn't really help your cause.

It is a matter of making a statement.  It is clear I'd prefer if you voted democrat.  I don't blame anyone that didn't vote for W in 00 or 04 for him getting elected... sort of.

I blame us - as citizens of the u.s. that voted - for not getting out there and being willing to talk to people, to challenge their views or further advance our education on the candidates, the platforms and the world around us.  I blame the democrat leaders for being 'pansies' and not standing up to be heard.  I blame the democrats in general for developing a GIANT group of people with MILLIONS of various opinions to create a force large enough to defeat a Republican --- yet when it comes time to win, the dems are too cowardly to speak up for the liberals and instead campaign in ways not to 'turn off' the republican.  The democratic party is a bunch of crap.  It encourages passive behavior and passes blame with excuses after excuses.

I however am a democrat.  So, since I blame myself for W - not because I didn't vote for Gore or Kerry - but because I didn't speak up.  I didn't push the issues.  I didn't ask my friends to pay attention.  I didn't get involved.  I didn't try to understand why people liked W when I could so clearly see him as a sneaky bad man.

I aided in W winning just as much as the person who voted Nader did.  I aided in W winning just as much as Gore did (he might as well have slept for the entire campaign for as hard as he fought).

This year it's different.  This year I say - you can't blame the independents if a republican wins.  You can't say the 'republicans' have to live with themselves if they start a war they don't like.  You can't say, not my fault, if you did nothing to stop it.  EVERYONE has to live with the consequences.  This year is different.

Over the last few years I've realized we are simply - republicans, democrats and independents - what we are, and what we should be is Americans.  We should be a team -  all of us fighting a good fight.  We may have different opinions about how to do it, and that's fine.  But if the republican's are the only ones pretending to play nice while ALSO speaking up for their beliefs and (in my mind) manipulating and brainwashing the American People... then it's our own damn fault for not speaking up back and questioning their rhetoric and their motives.

(sorry, apparently I had a rant)

Americans are asking for Political Asylum...Why don't we hear about it?

There is no country in the world that understands propaganda more than the United States. Billions are spent at the Pentagon on what you hear and repeat. The mainstream news is a psychotronic parade as the democrats bumble and the reporters comment as though they are on the Bush administration payroll.

The truth is not reported. The public responds as a story of importance makes breaking news only to see it squashed in the next 72 hours. Americans are asking for political asylum and you are not hearing about it.

The government is torturing American citizens who are Whistleblowers-  myspace Darren Gelbard, youtube Monarch Katherine Moore, and DIA Topoff to see electronic warfare torturing a U.S. citizen in 2007. Or, for those of you who think these victims are conspiracy theorists, there are the ADS military tests on youtube, 60 Minutes, and CNN. People being hit out of thin air by a ray beam. For real!

Weapons that can harm or kill you from a distance, without leaving marks if the operator so desires, are being used on people in their homes. There are interviews with U.S. citizens who are victims and with a Baghdad surgeon in which he states there are bodies in Iraq he and his team of ten Doctors have seen that are being killed by..."No bullets, no shots..arms cut straight off...we don't know what kind of weapon it is." A Baghdad Orchestra player also stated he saw bodies where..."Only the face was burned, no eyes..and the teeth. The rest of the body was untouched.

The Washington Post released an article called Mind Games in which the victims of psychotronics and V2K described what it was like to have someone mentally and physically torture you using communications and electronic warfare from a distance. And Russia is trying to ban Space weapons after Congress changed the bill that would have banned psychotronics years ago. This is the most dangerous game. Weapons that no individual can defend themselves against. Weapons that manipulate people and that torture and can kill you in your home with no warning from a distance.

    "Study: False statements preceded war

By DOUGLASS K. DANIEL, Associated Press Writer Wed Jan 23, 6:43 AM ET

WASHINGTON - A study by two nonprofit journalism organizations found that President Bush and top administration officials issued hundreds of false statements about the national security threat from Iraq in the two years following the 2001 terrorist attacks.

The study concluded that the statements "were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses."

The study was posted Tuesday on the Web site of the Center for Public Integrity, which worked with the Fund for Independence in Journalism.

White House spokesman Scott Stanzel did not comment on the merits of the study Tuesday night but reiterated the administration's position that the world community viewed Iraq's leader, Saddam Hussein, as a threat.

"The actions taken in 2003 were based on the collective judgment of intelligence agencies around the world," Stanzel said.

The study counted 935 false statements in the two-year period. It found that in speeches, briefings, interviews and other venues, Bush and administration officials stated unequivocally on at least 532 occasions that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction or was trying to produce or obtain them or had links to al-Qaida or both."

Now,  let's be fair here,  maybe, just maybe, the people who did this study were biased.  Maybe they made some errors.

    Maybe they exaggerated.

let's say, this study is only HALF right.   That would mean that our president lied to the American people 467 times.

Wow.  that still sounds pretty bad.

OK,  say this study is horribly wrong - only got it right one outta ten.   That means our president lied to us .....  93 times, plus one half- truth.

93.5  um,  that's not so great, I guess.

Well, what if this study is only 1% correct?  HA!  Then that means our president only lied to us all NINE times, resulting in a war and thousands of U.S. deaths!  So there!  NINE!!    Lying to the American people NINE times isn't so bad, right?   NINE!!!

    hmm....

Quick!  More cat stories!  more cat stories!   Got to bury this thing!

    Friends,

A new year has begun. And before we've had a chance to break our New Year's resolutions, we find ourselves with a little more than 24 hours before the good people of Iowa tell us whom they would like to replace the man who now occupies three countries and a white house.

Senate Panel Adds Billions for Child Health Coverage
Senate Panel Adds Billions for Health (NYT):

Defying a veto threat from President Bush, the Senate Finance Committee approved a major expansion of the Children’s Health Insurance Program on Thursday, with a majority of Republicans joining all Democrats on the panel in supporting the legislation.

The vote, 17 to 4, sends the measure to the full Senate, which is expected to take it up within two weeks....

The program subsidizes health care for children, and some adults, from families that earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but not enough to be able to afford private insurance. Congress faces a deadline because the program, which covered 6.6 million low-income children at some time in the last year, is set to expire on Sept. 30.

The bill calls for a total of $60 billion in spending over the next five years, which is $35 billion more than it would cost to continue spending at current levels. In the House, Democratic leaders are developing a proposal calling for a total of $75 billion. By contrast, President Bush has proposed a $5 billion increase, for a total of $30 billion.

One co-author of the legislation, Senator Charles E. Grassley of Iowa, the Finance Committee’s senior Republican, said, “The White House is very unrealistic if they think they can continue to do what we are doing now with just a $5 billion increase.”

Another co-author, Senator John D. Rockefeller IV, Democrat of West Virginia, said Mr. Bush and his health secretary, Michael O. Leavitt, had been “pretty belligerent” in criticizing the bill. [Cont...]

Bush Is Prepared to Veto Bill to Expand Child Insurance
Bush Is Prepared to Veto Bill to Expand Child Insurance (Blue Ridge Times-News)

WASHINGTON, July 14 — The White House said on Saturday that President Bush would veto a bipartisan plan to expand the Children’s Health Insurance Program, drafted over the last six months by senior members of the Senate Finance Committee.

The vow puts Mr. Bush at odds with the Democratic majority in Congress, with a substantial number of Republican lawmakers and with many governors of both parties, who want to expand the popular program to cover some of the nation’s eight million uninsured children.

Tony Fratto, a White House spokesman, said: “The president’s senior advisers will certainly recommend a veto of this proposal. And there is no question that the president would veto it.”

The program, which insured 7.4 million people at some time in the last year, is set to expire Sept. 30. [cont...]

    the petition
Hi, sorry if this was posted before. I just joined, and most of you have probably seen this on michaelmoore.com but he's asking everyone to sign this petition supporting a bill which would extend medicare to everyone residing in the US. 22,700 have signed it so far.

I saw Sicko yesterday and was amazed at how truly awful our Health Care system is. It is one of the most corrupt things about the US and I don't want to be a part of it anymore. It made me want to save up to move away after I graduate. But in the meantime, I want to do all I can to spread the word about the movie and get as many people as I can to see it.

Reply from Congressman Jim McDermott (D/WA)
Thank you for sharing with me your concern about the ongoing need for health care reform. This is an issue to which I am very committed.

While some Americans question the need for health care reform, I believe the fact that more than 45 million Americans lack insurance coverage, and that more and more consumers are losing control over their own treatment process and their choice of provider, means that our system of health care needs a major overhaul. The health care issue will not go away and I am committed to fighting for health care reform that provides universal coverage. Universal coverage is the only way to assure that health care becomes affordable by assuring that people get primary care instead of emergency room care, bringing healthy p eople into insurance pools which will lower costs for everyone, and end cost-shifting -- the means by which insured patients pay for the bad debt of the uninsured patient.

I particularly support a single-payer system as the best means of accomplishing universal coverage. In 1993 and in every subsequent session of Congress, I have submitted HR 1200, The American Health Security Act. Under HR 1200, every American would be guaranteed coverage and tax payers would save $175 billion per year in health care expenses. Eighty percent of Americans would pay less for their health care while gaining a health benefit package that includes all inpatient and outpatient care, prescription drugs, mental health benefits, and comprehensive long-term care. HR 1200 would accomplish all of this and still provide deficit reduction of approximately $100 billion per year. Draconian cuts in Medicare and Medicaid would be unnecessary in a single-payer system.

I do appreciate your taking the time to let me know your views on this important issue that must remain part of our national focus.

    Sincerely,

    Jim McDermott

    Saturday, June 30th, 2007

    Friends,

Thank you so much to the hundreds of thousands of you who went to see my movie last night and this afternoon. The studio tells me that we are on track to have the second largest opening weekend for a documentary in the history of the movies! ("Fahrenheit 9/11" was first.) Many theaters have been selling out. The Bush administration's investigation of this movie is certainly not keeping people away. Thanks for all the pictures you sent me of people packing in to see "Sicko!"

The movie is making impact big and small. I thought you would enjoy this story about a family that Aetna was forcing to pay a $65,000 hospital bill that the insurance company was supposed to cover!

(Flint Couple Says Moore Saved Home.)

The critics, too, have been more than kind. Can I show you what a few of them said?

"It's as uplifting and heart-rending a thing as you will see at the movies all year. And it speaks of Moore's enduring faith -- his angry, nettled, exasperated belief that 'despite all our differences, we sink or swim together.' " -- Amy Biancolli, Houston Chronicle

"The weight of evidence Moore marshals for taking the profit motive out of medicine is overwhelming. In a summer of dumb, shameless drivel, Moore delivers a movie of robust mind and heart. You'll laugh till it hurts." -- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

"'Sicko' is a beyond brilliant, nonpartisan expose' on American politics that should be mandatory for every student in America. Some rich person -- like maybe Angelina Jolie -- should sponsor a program where DVDs are sent to families or free screenings are held at local churches." -- Caroline Kepnes, E!

For more of this, click here.

There's a moment in "Sicko" when the former British MP, Tony Benn, says, "If we have the money to kill people (with war), we've got the money to help people." That line always gets the loudest applause in the theater. It is estimated that, before Bush's War is over, we will have spent two trillion dollars on it. Let me say this: I NEVER want to hear again from ANY politician that we "don't have the money" to fix our schools, to take care of the poor, to provide health care for every American. Clearly, the money IS there when we want to illegally invade another country and then prolong a disastrous occupation. From now on, we have to demand that our tax dollars be there for the things we need, not the things that make us one of the most detested countries on earth.

If you haven't seen "Sicko," go see it tonight. I want this film to have as much impact as it can. How well it does in terms of attendance this first weekend will determine how many other towns get to see it. It's all about the "first weekend box office" with the studios these days. If it does well in the 400 theaters it's in, they will put it in more theaters next weekend. And trust me, the White House and their friends in the pharmaceutical and health insurance industries know this, too. It's no surprise to me that an original master of "Sicko" was stolen and widely distributed on the internet before the film's release. I'm one of the few people in the movie business who doesn't believe in prosecuting teenagers who want to share music or films (although I make my movies to be seen on a big screen and that's how I hope people see them!). I called up Mr. Bush's FBI last week. I wanted to know if they had asked themselves the first question any cop would ask about this particularly unique theft:

"Who has a vested interest in destroying the first weekend of Michael Moore's new film by stealing his movie's master copy and placing it on the internet?"

Needless to say, they showed little interest in investigating who's behind this. That's ok. I realize what's at stake for them and I accept that this is a battle with serious consequences. The drug and insurance companies have dumped over a half billion dollars in the pockets of Congress and the White House in the last 10 years. This movie may end up being their worst nightmare.

But here's the good news: There's more of us than there are of them. So, it's up to the rest of you to help me help this movie have a great opening weekend. If over a half million people come out to see it by tomorrow night, the studio will take that to mean it should be in more cities and more theaters. Let's make that happen. And I promise you, if you go, you'll see a movie unlike any other you've seen this year. Last night, the industry polled the people coming out of "Sicko." 93% said they would "strongly recommend 'Sicko'" to their friends and family. The pollster said he'd never seen a number that high (the norm for most movies is about 45%). It was a heartening piece of news.

Thanks again and see ya tonight at the movies!

    Yours,
    Michael Moore

    Sicko! Is Great!
I dragged my husband - who does not even like going to the movies - off to watch Sicko! this morning. It was great!

He and I both raved about what a wonderful movie this is. It had me by turns angry, tearful, and laughing. Angry because of all the greed and hypocrisy in American health care and government, tearful over the deaths and suffering of people subjected to the system, and laughing at the silliness of some of the arguments put forth by apologists for the insurance and pharmaceutical companies, so deftly exposed by Michael Moore.

My husband was outraged at all the injustices, and touched by the kind reception the 9/11 volunteers received in Cuba. The Cubans aren't our enemies, the French aren't our enemies - it's the vultures in the insurance and pharmaceutical companies, and in the District of Columbia, who are out to get us! We need to get organized as a nation, and start showing the politicians who's boss!
