New Rules and Ideals. [22 Oct 2003|09:03pm]

agitatorswaltz
[ mood | optimistic ]
[ music | Guniw Tools - Ladybird's Sleeping Art ]

Hi! To become a member of this community, and obtain some enjoyment out of it, please read and follow the rules listed below. We don't ask for much. ^^
Always changed, always edited : 2004.2.19

To start off : Your mods are [info]junnokoneko, [info]mifyuu, and [info]agitatorswaltz. ^^
Membership is not approved. It's an open community (i.e. anyone can join). The reason we have you read the rules is so that everyone can co-exist peacefully without having petticoats ruffled.

1) New rule : All posts are locked from now on. We want this post to be the very first post that prospective members see, because you'd be surprised at how many people do not read the information page. If you forget, it's OK, because we have the community set to automatic lock.

Do not ask about why we lock posts >_< I just said it right there!

Always check your mail from LJ! We always send a valid reason as to why your post was rejected.

2) Rules are still the same. If you haven't read the rules, they're located at the info page about this community. However we'd like to add a few pointers:

*If you have a generic question, and you think it's been asked before, it more than likely has. ^_~ So always check the archives!

*Keep the "How can I make this EGL-able?" post to a minimum. We're happy to help you fix it, but use some common sense sometimes. Does it *really* look like it could be made into something Gothic Lolita?

*For those who are new to the concept of GL, that's OK! We're willing to help you out! However, if you don't have the desire to pay attention to anything any one of us has said, don't become offended if someone calls you on it, because we were willing to help you, but you weren't willing to listen. Fair is fair.

*Also, many people in this community are blantantly honest about how they feel about a certain seamstress / fabric choice / article of clothing / anything. They're honest, but that's why they originally came here before people called us on our non-existant bashing. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, be it nice or no. If you can't handle that, then please leave. Kind of like saying... if you can't handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen, because we're making cookies, the way we like them. Nobody is changing for anyone else.

3) Ideals of Metamorphique
If you feel you don't identify with these ideals, then..why are you here? o_O; If you don't share any of these ideals, don't bother joining. The community was created for a group of people who had the same ideas, so.. don't join a community just to join a community. (like, joining a vegan community and being a meat eater >_>)

*We go by the Bibles. Simple enough. If one can afford a shopping spree at a vintage store, one can buy a Gothic&Lolita Bible.
*No, we honestly don't support the novel Lolita being the base for the fashion, or mannerism. Try the Victorian Era being the base for those. We *really* do not like the "nymphette" "Dolores Haze" thing to be associated with G&L. Useless to fight with us on it, it is our community.
*One is entitled to opinions, but one does not have to be rude, either. There is a difference between blantant bashing and just saying, "I don't agree with that." Use sound judgement. If you keep being rude, one of us will ban you.

4) LJ has a FAQ. It is your friend, it wants to help you! ^^ If you have LJ-specific questions, consult that, not us.

If you can't comply with our rules or ideals, then we're sorry. This is our community, and it grew, so we're growing the rules and ideals. Sure you can disagree on a certain aspect of it, but it's really useless to, considering it is our community.

With that said, I'd like for everyone to e-mail me (my name is Codi) at shinshouku @ hotmail.com (get rid of the spaces), with some sort of relevant subject title with the following information inside:
Your name/nickname
Your LJ name
Your AIM name if applicable

That e-mail is for letting me know you read all of this, and also to keep a database. ^_^ You don't have to ask to join, go ahead and do so, just send me the e-mail with the info, and I'll be mighty happy.

If you didn't take the time to read our rules, then we're not taking the time to read your post. Fair enough. Thanks for your time. ^_^

I'm watching this auction on ebay, and I'm looking at this dress as strictly a fixer-upper. I couldn't wear it as is, but it's just occurred to me that I'm not sure what to do with it. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.

Handmade Gothic & Lolita Handbook [21 Oct 2003|10:55pm]

[ mood | creative ]

I stumbled upon the Handbook today just by chance when I was ordering Bible #9 and #10. I was about to order it as well but they already had a copy of it.

Eyeing through it a couple of times I think I will have the most use of the basics to the different shirt models. I consider myself a pretty advanced seamstress, judging by the facts that I am self taught, so this book is good as an inspirational source and the patterns are perfect as a basis to own designs.

I can recommend it to everyone and for those who are highly advanced when it comes to sewing it will surely be a nice addition to the home library. ^^

There are bags of lace trim at the Seattle Value Village [20 Oct 2003|08:09pm]

vebelfetzer
...weirdly enough. It comes in plastic bags, $2 for a bag. I guess it’s for making dolls.

Those of us with loligoth on the brain, these little bags are ideal for trimming DIY skirts, etc.

But there aren’t any lace bags there right now, because I just bought them all. XD Cream and white are predominant, with some black, brown and blue.

Check your local Goodwill and VV. They might have them there, too.

Oh yeah. Hi. I’m Eliza. I got into Lolitism right after reading Lolita, appropriately. Then I learned about EGL from the SeaGoth Board and fell in love.

I am intrigued more by the deviant nature of Lolicon than I am by the ‘cuteness’. I love Trevor Brown, Hans Belmer and any other Lolita art I can get my hands on as long as it isn’t prurient or saccharine. I’m just starting to get into an appreciation for injury fetishism.

I consider myself to be a Lolita; that is, a nymphet. I think I have been since the age of seven or eight. I wonder what will happen when I get too old to play little girl anymore.

Here is a photo of me as a Lolita.

A while back, someone on EGL posted a link to an online store that sells lace by the yard (rather than by the spool as at Cheaptrims.com). I'm currently too impoverished to either buy the whole spool or pay retail, so if someone knows where that site is, I would very much appreciate a link ^^

My friend Caitlin gave me this shirt today~ and I was wondering if it can be used in an outfit perhaps? Sorry for asking so many questions about the style, I just want to make sure I get it right.. maybe I'm overdoing it? I mean, each lolita should have her own style right? Should I be more confident in myself? I feel so lost!

I've begun shortening the blouse I posted about earlier, as per the advice dispensed here, slowly and carefully. I also purchased some narrow ruffle lace to dress it up. Haven't decided where exactly I want to apply it yet, but we'll see.

Onto the next request for advice from the experienced sewing-Lolitas here. ^_^ I'm bidding on this dress as a fixer-upper, and surprisingly, I think I might win it cheaply. (Coincidentally, I think it would look very cute over the blouse.) What I plan to do is cut off the ruffle and shorten the skirt a bunch, so that if I reattached the ruffle it would be just above knee length. What I want to do is to use the leftover velvet from the skirt to make the skirt fuller, as full as the ruffled piece can go. I'm thinking if I make triangles and insert them into the current seams it'll work nicely. Does this sound right?

My grandmother had gotten me some nice pink and ivory gingham fabric, and although it wasn't my color, I *had* to make something cute from it. So it became a sweet/country lolita skirt.

See? )

I like how it came out. I sort of loosely based it off of a slightly full A-line skirt in my possession. I made it a little longer and fuller and rounded off the bottom hem. Because of the fabric it's made from-- it's almost like twill-- it hangs nicely and maintains its full shape. I'm not sure how well it'll work with a lighter fabric, but I'll be finding out soon as I re-locate the black velvet I just bought.
It's simple and understated with a touch of the frilly sweetness that's a trademark of EGL. I'm not sure it's elaborate enough to even call it EGL. I suppose it's part of my personal preference : I can enjoy a very large amount of frillyness on pure black or black trimmed with white, but on lighter colored pieces or pieces made from print I prefer them simpler and not as "overdone." Therefore my next creations out of some black velvet and almost-matte satiny material I found on sale will probably have lots of lace and ruffle goodness. ^_^

Oh, and if anyone who's more into the sweeter varieties of lolita than I would like to give it a worthy home, it's on Ebay. I really like how it came out but I know I'll never wear it, so I might as well sell... :/

hello everyone! my name's jenny and i'm not really good at this introduction thing ^^; i've been into elegant gothic lolita for about two years now, which i'm very grateful for. i love the fact that it looks very period but have modern elements to it...does that make sense? i plan on wasting my life away learning how to sew egl and posting away in lj, haha ^___^

okay, enough about me. i know eveybody here loves the brand names, but what about those small "other" brands? ^__^ some of the designs from those less known seamtresses/accessory makers can be quite unique! anyway, here's the link to a webring called lolita brand webring. it's in japanese only but i used http://excite.co.jp/world/url to translate the pages (just click on the second circle first). alright, that's it! i'll posty posty more in the future. =^.^=

New EGL eBay Seller w/ website [17 Oct 2003|01:27pm]

While perusing the usual crap that is not EGL in an eBay search I came across a cute mini top hat for auction by the seller increase_pink; she also has a website catalogue at Petite Bulle de Savon (pour filles) and her items look very well made. She has good praise so far so hopefully we'll have someone new to buy EGL/EGA stuff from now. ^__^

Hi all--

My name is Dawn and I just joined the community ^^ I'm currently a college student and my clothing style is a mixture of EGA and the more 'punk'-ish side of EGL. I have a huge fetish for coats, belts & buckles, and laces-- so you can just imagine what my closet looks like with those lol ^^

Anyways-- looking forward to appreciating the Japanese EGL fashion with all of you!

Just an idea... [17 Oct 2003|04:43pm]

Okay, this was just a thought, so PLEASE don't get angry at me for suggesting this! After seeing the post Lady_Vader made on her LJ with pictures of eBay auctions that claimed to be gothic lolita but weren't, I thought to myself "wouldn't it be fun to have a Hall of Shame for auctions like that?". Maybe as a community, once a week we could make a collage of the most laughable things put on eBay that were described as "gothic lolita"? I guess it would count as educational, because some people here want to know more about gothic lolita fashion, and know what it isn't is a good start^^;; And maybe if that's a bit negative, we could also have a Hall of Fame for the best gothic lolita auctions each week? Well, it's just as idea, but I think it would be a fun thing for everyone to get involved in^_^

Blue Inspirations and Nurse Inspirations [17 Oct 2003|02:28pm]

bittenbefore
I dont know if this is allowed but i'll give it a shot.
I came by some beautiful blue lace recently and i really want to sew an outfit with it. A top and a skirt. I was thinking a blue top of sorts and a black skirt with blue lace. Something along those lines. But of course I want to sew a proper GL inspired outfit so if anyone has come across any pictures or ideas, do share them with me? I tried looking but i dont come across blue [grey blue] too often so am i on the wrong track here?

Also I'm trying to sew a nurse outfit. This is on track i think cos many Lolita Japanese brands carry nurse inspired outifts. But i cannot find any pictures right now. If anyone has any , could you please point me to it or email it to me? i'll be very grateful and i promise to post pics when i am done.

And this is my last question for this post [sorry!]
This is from the homemade Gothic and Lolita book [this is allowed?]

I havent got any problems with any of the outfits but i cant make the headdress above. is there a pattern for it?? [either on the pattern sheet or self drafting instructions]

Thanks everyone!

Allright dears, a question!
..lets get to the nitty gritty here.

Who owns the 10th G&L Bible yet?

We are low on funds (what a surprise.. XD) and personally, I'd like to know whats in it. I probably would recognize a majority of the outfits in there first off (I frequent sites too much ._. its a habit!) Anyone seen mebbe a sneak peek even?
I'll probably buy it anyway, but.. I like to be an informed buyer. *nod* >>; I'd really like to know the patterns more than anything.

A plea too ._. How lowly of me... )

..one more thing! A good place to get the Bibles is
http://www.fujisan.com
Very cheap and efficient, but not all of them are there, though they do have the option of special ordering. ^^ I wouldn't put too much faith in that though.
Hope everyone is genki ne ^^~
