A few weeks ago, Melbourne Metal was created. This page is dedicated to supporting bands of the great, but unfortunately not well known, metal scene all throughout Victoria. It attempts to support true metal bands throughout the state and to bring back what has been missing in Victoria's music scene in a long time.

So yeah, hope y'all can add the page and support the Victorian metal scene!

I am looking for volunteers to run workshops and discussions at a DIY festival in Melbourne in May/June 2009. We hope to keep the costs for those attending to a minimum, however tutors are welcome to charge a materials fee for each workshop.

So far we have volunteers signed up for workshops in:
Firetwirling
Drawing
Sustainable gardening
Crochet your own hackey sack
Build your own computer/recycle and old one
Badge Making
and Zine Making
We are looking for many more...

Examples of other possible workshops/discussions might include:
How to fix your bike
Everything you need to know about dumpster diving
Homebrewing 101
Screen printing
How to make and design patterns
Make your own paper
how to make a straitjacket
Yummy Yummy! Recipe Exchange
How to Juggle and other amazing circus tricks
insert your own ideas here...

The benefits of volunteering are free entry to the event, the opportunity to have a table at a zine/craft/etc. fair part of the event for free, meeting new people that share your interest, feeling good and being made of pure awesome!

You do not need to be of high status, well renowned or hold some sort of medal in order to run a workshop.. all you need to do is have something that you are interested in and would like to share with others!

I look forward to hearing from you,

Louise.

RED MOON TURNS 3 YEARS OLD THIS FRIDAY!!

Wow what a journey it has been. 3 years ago madness was born. Just when no one thought there would be a club that would specialise in true metal, the moon turned red and bled drops of crimson passion into the heart of Hellbourne, VIC.
What started off as a once off event then turned monthly as the howls grew louder for something more regular and thus the weekly Friday nights of Heavy Metal and Hard Rock!
From Children of Bodom to WASP, Def Leppard to Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth to Stratovarius, Dio to Hammerfall, i'm sure you get the picture now ;)

What's even better is, this week is the final week of our free entry January promo, so there will be NO entry charge this Friday! What a bonus!!

So this week we celebrate our 3rd year birthday, with happy hour this week 9pm-10pm will be consisting of $3 stubbies, $4 spirits, and $2 pots!! We will also have some drink card giveaways to some lucky patrons throughout the night!! So tell your friends, spread the word, and the gospel of Metal and come join us on this wicked summer night of Euro-Metal & World Rock partying all night long! Raise your beer, raise some horns, and together lets raise some hell!

This news has just recently gone up on the Clauz blog:

Dave Browne has passed away; Dave is best known for his drumming with 80s melodic thrash band Taramis, and thrashers Nothing Sacred.

I am unaware of the circumstances surrounding Dave's passing - but regardless, metal people who wish to pay their respects, might like to write a few gentle words over at the Taramis MySpace page, &/or Nothing Sacred MySpace page. I'm sure the guys would appreciate it, as they've all lost a friend.

x-posted [info]australianmetal & [info]metal4melbourne .

(I didn't know Dave, those bands are before my time for going to gigs -- but to have been a part of both those bands, he must have been quite a fine metal drummer - and he would be a familiar figure to the throngs who flocked to Bell St Rock.)

Addendum: Musically Incorrect (RRR) will specially feature Taramis in honour of Dave, for the show on the 19th. The show will be web-streamed on the RRR page, should those outside Melbourne metro wish to tune in.

Addendum II: Brian Fisher-Giffen will also be featuring some Taramis in honour of Dave; www.blufm.org.au @ 10pm AEST 09.01.09.

To limit cross-posting, details up at [info]australianmetal  (post here).
