This community was created in December 2008 for writers to share thoughts about writing.
This community may contain adult topics, and as such is not suitable for people under the age of 18.
Purpose
This community has come about as a forum for talking about writing and associated topics. It has been felt that there was a lack of forum to talk frankly about writing without having to worry that someone will push it too far. This is why the list at the bottom of “Explicitly Prohibited Behaviour”. I feel that being clear at the start will be better all round.
This community encourages disparate viewpoints, and hopes to actively seek out different genres of writers and contributors to the writing profession. It was felt that because of this, really clear guidelines needed to be set so that we can all feel comfortable and safe in expressing our varied and hopefully contradictory opinions.
Reasoned debate is welcome, however there may come a point where you are asked to agree to disagree. If you disregard this and continue to argue your one true opinion, then you will be asked to go elsewhere.
Flaming is prohibited, but members are also strongly recommended to refrain from taking things personally.
We also did not want to encourage commercialism. In the short time that I have been involved in writing, it seems that there are many venues where people can promote their work, and actively do so. We really hope that people will network on this community, make friends and new contacts, and be able to gain, whether remunerated or not, other peoples expertise. We just don’t feel that it is appropriate to actively solicit or request commercial services here.

Age Stipulation
All writers, regardless of genre, are welcome here. The only stipulation is that you are over the age of 18 as legally we have an obligation to attempt to ensure that people under the age of 18 are not exposed to certain material. For this reason the community has been set to Explicit Content. Users under the age of 18 will be unable to join. If you indicate that you are under 18 in any community posts, you will be removed.

You may post to, or link to meta posts that discuss the art of writing, and associated paraphernalia, such as publishing, book covers, graphic novels.
Posting is currently set to members only.
Explicitly Prohibited Behavoiour
Pointless self promotion
Shameless off topic self promotion is not acceptable. Therefore, a post on how you wrote your latest novel, or what decisions you had to make regarding publishers is perfectly acceptable. OMG LULZ ME BOOKIE IS OUT, on the other hand, will get you summarily banned.
Insulting and offensive language in a discussion
Feel free to disagree with anything anyone is saying, however if you insult a person directly for not agreeing with you, ‘tis bye bye.
Denigrating comments or posts
This would be the “One True Way” posts where absolutely no argument is brooked and there is no room left for people to discuss. This is not the place for those sort of posts. Of course everyone has their own opinion, but that is all it is, opinion. If you cannot deal with that, go elsewhere.
Placing any post that requests money for services - including editing
This, as covered above, is a place to discuss writing and associated topics. However, there may well be artists or editors here who wish to contribute to the discussion. Feel free to message them privately about their services. We just do not want this to turn commercial.
Plagiarism – even outside of this forum
I think this is very self explanatory. If you plagiarise, you’re not welcome here.
Outing people
Anyone who has ever exposed the real-life details of someone else without their permission, is not welcome here.
