to say that in the Swann household, we have the Christmas decorations up. Even the effing tree. In OCTOBER.

Thankfully, mum doesn't seem to be in the mood to install the tiny Christmas chandelier of colorfulness.

That is all.

And buy Nation by PTerry.

Yeah You're Funny, Yeah You're Cute But Let's Move On It's All Been Proven [Tuesday

So I'm officially writing French Vanilla now, sequel to Cafe La Femme, the chick lit crime novel I have coming out from Pulp Fiction Press at some point in the not too distant future.

Zokutou word meterZokutou word meter

I am up to chapter two. Eeee. I have basically four months & one week to get it done, which is very manageable. My plan is to have 20,000 of good novel-started-writing done by the end of this month, and then to do the rest of it NaNoWriMo style along with [info]godiyeva and anyone else insane enough to join our merry band. That should give me a basic if rough draft and I will have two and a half months to flesh it out and make it luvverly.

Most importantly I have a playlist - I've been using these more and more to help me get in the mood for switching between writing projects. And yes I know most of you are rolling your eyes right now, but I have actually had requests from several of my sweeties to see what the French Vanilla list is. I have a much bigger (60 songs!) CLF/Tabitha playlist, but this is my nice condensed 'sit down and type, woman' version.

Shut Up And Kiss Me - Pony Up!
I Got The Way - Kate Miller-Heidke
Sly - The Cat Empire
Pony - Kasey Chambers
Nice Work If You Can Get It - Sting
One Week - Barenaked Ladies
Butterfly - Jason Mraz
Smile - Lily Allen
Mockingbird Girl - Magnificent Bastards
The Waitress - The Waifs
You Look So Good - Clare Bowditch And The Feeding Set
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - Cyndi Lauper
Ducks Don't Need Satellites - Kate Miller-Heidke
Fidelity - Regina Spektor
Coffee And TV - Blur

If nothing else, that should give you the vibe of the book - it ain't a tragedy!

I am so delighted I get to write this book finally - Cafe La Femme has been in existence in one form or another for... a long time. Seriously. Getting to write a second Tabitha book after so many different versions of book one is so very exciting, especially as I really am proud of how Cafe La Femme finally turned out.

[yes this was the same book I was grumbling about a few weeks ago, shut up, never listen to writers in edit-funk]

So, new book. New plot. So far I have a missing person, web cams, and I finally sorted out in my head what further romantic entanglements have happened in the 8 months between book 1 and book 2. Which is kind of important.

Happy bunny Tansy blows kisses at you all as she sits down to honeymoon period with new novel. Pretty, flirty, adorable new novel.

*moves chair slightly closer to novel*
*brushes arm against it, seemingly by accident*
*gazes into novel's eyes*

[1] My Rock Band Master Plan moved along another step yesterday morning-- I played my first two songs on Hard. Soon, I will be invincible!!!!!!

[2] [info]nojojojo = N. K. Jemisin = totally awesome writer. See hot, hot, hot sample. She's also the first writer whose experiences and worldview deeply engaged me on first sight in a long time.

[3] I promise I have not only been getting my econ coverage (in case you forgot, I currently live in the US) from LOLfed. But it's the only thing I can muster the energy to link to at this point. Oh, and I suppose this bit by the Economist too, aptly named "Blocked pipes".

[4] Have Fanlore-ed up, but haven't had the guts yet to stick in a user page for myself or really edit anything. My opinion, in short: shiny. My opinion, in long: very shiny. :D

[5] Have finally gotten to beginning the scourge of my email accounts. The one that handles fannish stuff is pretty much mostly done, but my main Gmail account continues to give me the baleful eye. "But you need all those account alerts!" it is crying, stubbornly. "If you'll only think for a bit--"
Luckily, I have not been listening.

[6] My inner glow due to finally getting my very first C# program to work all on my lonesome, I am contemplating wild and crazy projects.
Project #1: Scrivener for windows. Scratch that, Decent Writing Program for windows.
Project #2 (for when I hypothetically also learn Objective-C): Decent Email Client for OSX. And maybe for windows? All I know is, Mail doesn't bloody cut it, and neither does Thunderbird or Entourage. I'd be happy with Outlook as a stopgap on windows if I move over, but probably only in the short term. Relying unnecessarily on Microsoft for anything gives me the jeebies.

Squeaks Barcelona, International Robot of Mystery [Tuesday

Let's have a shout-out from all the people on my friends list who aren't spambots!

Lately I've been getting what feels like a lot of drive-by friendings from Russian journals with image-heavy posts and completely different names on their Friends and Friend Of lists, none of them names I recognise. I'm not going to assume that just because I can't read the posts they're not real posts, but I am likely to make squinty suspicious eyes at them if it happens over and over.

It's not as though it actually matters if imaginary people friend my journal, but it made me curious. From memory, [info]tangledtale has a note on her profile promising that she's not a robot hell-bent on the destruction of the human race, but most of the rest of you forgot to include that bit. And while I respect the right of all shy people to lurk forever, I thought it would be fun to get a shout from all the non-robots.

So, if you are so damned real people could just about touch you and never know the difference, then comment with either:

=> The most surprising thing about you!

=> Something you assume people know about you that I probably don't!

=> Your favourite fictional character!

=> What kind of robot you would be if you were oh-so-hypothetically to be one!

=> What you think of boys in eyeliner!

=> What your accent sounds like!

=> What you do when you want to cheer yourself up!

=> What you think of topiary elephants!

sorry, i know i've been absent. the first bit was because i was extremely tired from the two job thinger, but i was only doing one job during the weekend and sun was the last day of wow. the weekend, however, included a bit of flat hunting (that wasn't v. successful, since the flat that S's man is moving out of isn't much bigger than where i am and would cost considerably more and have a higher bus fare into town. [*shrugs*] still it was lovely that they took time out of their weekend to show it to me before the landlord puts it on the market), and more disposal of goods and not nearly enough sleep.

also have finished all of the available official twilight series (yes including the draft chapters of midnight sun). have to say i am an unashamed fan. of all of it. really enjoyed it. even want to see the movie (though i don't think it will be like i see the books, but i'm curious to see what they do). i think stephenie creates really interesting characters and situations. when i'm not so tired i'll do a spoiler-iffic review of it all.

for today, since i don't want to sit and mope at you anymore, i'll give you some cool vids and links.

first off, to give those of you that have no idea what this thing i just did is, some official vids for world of wearableart.

wow's sponsor's (montana wines) vid )

tourism nz's vid about wow )

next, i'm sure many of you have seen these next couple. a hysterical fake ad about kids songs done by rock stars:

kids' rock ad (by tim hawkins??) )

and last but not least, one sentence - true stories, told in one sentence. this is v. v. awesome. some are funny, some heart-wrenching. my faves so far? )

also, [info]mistful has put up the pdf of her fanfic. get it now before she takes everything down.

so yeah, sorry i haven't been reading lj for the last few days. let me know if there is something that i've missed that i need to know. i promise to get back to the comments and emails folk have sent, just not tonight. [*crawls back under the blanket with tales of romance*]

+ I had my last substantive lecture for Case Law today, and I understood the concepts
- I've been understanding the concepts all semester, but am still sitting on a B- average
+ This is my last week of lectures
- I have an exam next Friday, and one on the following Tuesday
+ The following weekend is Labour Weekend
+ I'm going to have hour-long lunchbreaks all summer
+ Today there was a really fantastic storm
- I didn't wear a heavy enough jacket and got really wet
+ I got to jump in puddles
+ That was pretty awesome, actually
+ The rewrite of the user manual that I'm doing most of the writing for is progressing pretty nicely
- oh my god, there's still so much more work to do on it
- My performance review is on Thursday
+ I already know that one of my drafters has given glowing feedback
- I am so, so tired

I had plans. Like. I was at the fish and chip shop on Sunday night and thinking about Wellington and New Zealand and how I live in a tiny country and I've only left the island twice in my life. And I was thinking about how awesome fish and chip shops are, how much I love the old vinyl flooring and that New Zealand Commercial Fish Species poster that's on the wall of every fish and chip shop ever and the long, long lists of food to order and how the way in which you order chips changes from city to city. And that I like how the new menu items invariably get added on with stencils and sharpie pens, and how there are always magazines months out of date and uncomfortable, torn vinyl chairs and Watties tomato sauce that you can buy in a tin. And I was going to post about all this, except it was going to be lyrical and charming.

Sometimes I love Wellington so much my chest hurts. I had to stop 3 times walking down the stairs this morning to let the gusts of wind go by; I've no idea where our recycling bin went after we took it out this morning but I suspect the answer is "in another suburb". The rain sweeps across the valley outside my house and I get to watch it drift across in waves, safe (although cold and slightly shaken) in my lovely room in my lovely old house, and I love it here. I am so, so glad and thankful that I moved.

Tell me where you live and something you love about it!

I told you a while ago that I have questions, now I'm ready to ask them. Damn the consequences. Please note that if you are uncomfortable with answering this poll you don't have to. The results are private and I am the non-judging breakfast club. I'm going through another one of my "I want to be..." phases and I'm honestly, honestly, just a concerned citizen of the world (as corny as that sounds). If you feel comfortable asking your friends to fill this out, then please do.

Let's hope tomorrow is better. I missed all my classes and didn't finish my paper, though apparently I sounded pathetic enough that my professor gave me an extension. I still want to finish it tomorrow because I have another paper deadline coming up, a major one in terms of workload as it's a lit review. If I'm not careful it'll just start piling up.

Ok, vote for 24 hour bug, no puking in the middle of the night, and no malfunctioning fire alarm!

You know what I'd love to see?

A crossover where Sam and Dean end up in Las Vegas at the Host's bar, from Angel. Which is a demon kareoke bar, for those of you who don't know. No violence, everyone's at a temporary truce.

And the best part? We'd see them sing.

If there's fanfic out there? I need to be linked to it. *g*
