Greetings unto the good gentles of Meridies.
Many of you know the Shire of Vulpine Reach's very own crazy viking, Thorarinn Grjotgardhsson. He is our resident blacksmith and mead maker extraordinaire and an integral part of both our shire & this kingdom. Recently, Thorarinn has been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. As many of you know Thorarinn is a fighter and he has determined that he is going to win this, his most important battle yet.
To that end, many friends of Thorarinn in Vulpine Reach have stepped up to offer fundraising opportunities to benefit Thorarinn and his family during this time. The Honorable Lady Juliana de Florey will be tossing on an apron and hosting a fundraiser lunch at the fighting field during the afternoon. More details will be available on site. We have also opened the field for two benefit tournaments, Thorarinn's Hammer (rapier) and Thorarinn's Anvil (heavy), to be held in the afternoon following the main tourneys. Each will be a single elimination shotgun-style tourney and is open to all with an entry fee of $10.00. Competitors can buy up to four additional re-entries for $5.00 each. The winning competitor in each tourney will earn a fabulous prize, each made possible by donations from friends of Thorarinn and gracious artisans. The winner of the heavy tourney will be directed to Don Njall Olaf Hagerson and Hagerson Forge to design his/her very own one-of-a-kind, custom knife valued at $200.00! The prize for the rapier tournament will be announced shortly. Come ready to eat, ready to fight, and ready to show your love and support for our big crazy viking, Thorarinn.
-- Tobias Morgan mka Avery W. Krouse
(All fundraising events held at Tourney of the Foxes are sponsored and funded by friends of Thorarinn Grjotgardhsson and are not official activities of the Shire of Vulpine Reach.)

Please excuse a shameless plug for those interested, as the SCA is filled with folks that enjoy reading books...
http://community.livejournal.com/historybookclub/
I made a new LJ community for those of us who like to read and make discussions on historical non-fiction and historical fantasy books - especially books in period for the SCA - as I could not find an appropriate community to otherwise join for such a thing.
If you are interested, please join and share your comments about your favorite history books!
Thanks,

I just got an aim from Margaret of Northwode who had this to say:
am in baptist w partially obstructed guts
They are hoping that this will resolve itself but she will be in the hospital at least until Tuesday. As always with this kind of thing, prayers, good thoughts, etc will be most appreciated. Thanks!
(relaying for a stuck Margaret who really wants a big plate of steak fries but says "YAY delaudid!" but doesn't help the fact that there's a Krispy Kreme right outside her window!)

[crossposted to my journal]
Class last night: Heraldry and Precedence for Kids, taught by Alexander. He's knocking the rough edges off the class and needed to run through it and there are, of course, kids in the Shire, Meg among them, to take the class.
In discussion of the associate belts and which color meant what, he got to the green belt and asked if they knew what it meant the person wearing IT was. The girls all sat there and thought about it for a bit, and then Meg, who had also been thinking about it, has a light bulb go on and she answers,
"[An] Ashley!"
Much laughter from the adults. Repeated this morning when I called my Laurel Alysea to recount it.

Here is the info for Saltare 2007 (February 3rd):
http://www.madscientist.name/saltare/frontpage.htm
Please join the Saltare Yahoo group here, it is all European dance people, and we need a presence!:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/saltare_guild/
If you are planning to teach and we have already spoken, I will need to get a brief class description from you.
I still have several slots open for teaching, and this promises to be a good year for dancers and musicians alike.
If you are interested in bringing something for the food table, please let me know, it would be much appreciated. (Munchable type stuff)
I can't wait to get this going!

Hey, my son is trying to work up a device and he wants to know if he is using the correct blazon to describe it. Here it is:
Azure a chevron argent 5 mullets in chief or 1 mullet in base or.
Does this give him basically a blue shield with a white chevron in the middle with five stars above the chevron and one star below?
Any help for the heraldrically challenged would be appreciated...
