I have a question about hot flashes. I've been having them for about a year and a half, maybe two years, and they are progressively getting worse. I am going to see my gynocologist about them, but my question is this:

How do you cope with them?

They've gotten to the point I feel nauseated because I'm so hot so fast. Even shedding clothes and using ice doesn't cool my body down fast enough. The worst hot flashes normally occur around my period and can last from five minutes to three hours. When they're done I either get super cold or I feel completely drained.

I am fishing for techniques because it's especially hard to deal with them in the middle of a class. My face becomes very flushed and I feel like I'm resonating heat. Luckily the longest flashes come late in the day, so the ones during class are shorter and easier to handle, but I'm afraid I'm actually going to vomit during one of them without warning.

Any help is much appreciated.

Wear layers so you can remove a few when one hits, keep ice water handy, and avoid spicy or hot foods. I have an aunt that kept a few extra blue ice packs in her lunchbox just for the occasion.

Hot flashes are from 1-5 minutes, not hours long. You have a different issue and you should see a doctor about that. Your brain is having a hard time controlling body temperature and you should find out why, because it could be indicative of a serious problem.

Good luck!
