Thanks, Sara

Some Diva Cup questions
Just got a Diva Cup as a birthday present from my best friend, who has been using one for about a year now. She rants and raves about how awesome it is, and how my first period with it will be the best period of my life. My period is due in about two or three days, and I've been wearing the cup since yesterday, just for practice putting it in and removing it, and to make sure that it feels right and all that. I'm not sure if I'm doing anything wrong or if it's just a matter of continuing to practice, but I'm still waiting for it to be completely comfortable. Unlike tampons (which I have used until now), I can still feel it, especially if I tense my muscles (it's my quick and dirty test that I do to make sure I've inserted tampons correctly and comfortably, I figure it's transferrable to the Diva Cup as well). The issue is that it pinches mostly on one side, and it's the same side every time. I cannot for the life of me figure out why. I'm also a virgin, so I'm not sure what effect this has on how much I should or shouldn't feel the cup.

Also, does anyone else have discomfort with removing their menstrual cup? Once I've gotten up to the rim of the cup, I'm not quite sure how to make it small enough to be comfortable removing. It kinda just ... pops out, and it's rather painful. I don't want to squeeze the edges together because I'm afraid that, once I'm using it for my actual period, everything will spill.

Basically, I just need some help. I'm so confused and PMS is making me frustrated to the point of tears with this thing.

Question out of curiosity...Virgins and cups
Hi there ladies. I'm not a virgin and I use a large Diva and have two large PinkCups coming in the mail. My question is about virgins and using cups. I'm just wondering how that is possible? Can virgins remain intact while using the cup??? if not, does it hurt as bad as sex the first time? I'm wondering because though my girls are still years away from getting their period, I plan on introducing cups and cloth pads to them instead of disposable products. The problem is...I don't want then "ripping" anything that a virgin is supposed to have (ehem...hymen lol). Could someone please explain to me how this works? Thanks in advance to any who take the time to explain!

Bigger?
Hello Ladies!
well i am a 13 year old virgin who has been happily using my cup for a few days, and it works perfectly from the first day onward. I have a small MeLuna, and it doesn't hold much (especially overnight) oh boy! today, i made a HUGE mess in my bathroom, and what i don't understand was that it was in the middle of the day, i just started bleeding really heavy for like an hour. anywhoozle. i was looking into getting an overnight cup, so how big is the large MeLuna? Do you think a virgin would be comfortable using a large MeLuna? and have you heard of virgins using a large cup (any brand)? which one do you think would be the best?
thanks in advance.

Lunette: Leakage problems
Hi :)

I'm a 15 year old girl from Germany.
After using the small Lunette with a trimmed stem (was too long before) for several cycles I really regret to say that I hate this stupid thing I tried the Origami Fold and the Punch Down Fold (with the punched part facing down) and it always leaks (especially after physical activities like cycling to school) and I have no idea what's wrong. Tampons always dry me out and I have to change them very often. It's so annoying!
I always use cloth pads as a back-up, but sometimes it even leaks through the pads and I can't ever trust the cup as I never know when it is going to randomly start gushing. That's especially inconvenient at school... And my fingers are all messy when I take it out...looks like a murder scene! I hoped that it could be left in for 9 hours without emptying it; I have to check it every hour on my heaviest days. Overnight there is blood everywhere even if I have a pad because it fills up and leaks in a way that a tampon never did. My flow is very irregular due to stress, sometimes I'd have to change a super tampon every two hours during the heaviest days, sometimes there's next to nothing. Sometimes there's no period for three or four months, sometimes I've got it twice a month.

The cup always opens successfully and it is never filled to capacity when it leaks, it's not even half-full. The holes are not clogged before I re-insert it.
I think that the cervix is pointing into the cup and the cup sits low in my vag, but I'm not sure. My fingers are very short (although I think that my vag might be on the short side as well)
Sometimes the very short stem sticks out and I simply cannot make it go any further up. Other times it migrates so far up I can barely get it out again. What is going on?

I really want to get the hang of my Lunette. Do you have any idea what the problem is? I'm sure that it isn't slow leak of residual blood that got into the vag when I removed and cleaned my cup. Do I need a different cup? That would be annoyinf because I'm a student... I'm always short of money And I actually don't want to get a cup with less capacity because my flow's sometimes pretty heavy.

I got the  diva cup last week. I had read a blog, that suggested "testing" it before your period, so i did, and found insertion, and taking it out very painful. today i got a light period and decided to try it again. I just couldn't get it to work. I folded it in both ways. it hurts to put it in. I tried turning it inside me and found this very hard. I tried putting it in and out 8 times. Several times I found it would move up inside me and be extremely hard to remove. I wasn't sure it was creating a seal so i did the thing the manual said and pressed a finger on the side of my Vagina. I found this also hard to do. there wasn't much room for my finger. The first few times I put it in I felt a very strong "fullness" inside of me. it felt weird. then after that it started just feeling painful. I could feel it when I moved and it pinched and hurt. I even watched a youtube video that used a wine glass to show how to put it in, and that didn't help. I thought I'd finally gotten it in right after watching the video and I left the house with my mom for an appointment. It hurt so terribly in the car I started crying. I had to stop at a fast food place and take it out. Right now my vagina is in extreme pain, and the cut hasn't been in for 5 hours. It hurts so bad that I cannot use a tampon. It burns and there is a sharp pain. also when I had it in I got terrible non period cramps. It's also hurting to use the bathroom. the burn is much worse when I urinate.

I don't understand what i'm doing wrong. the pain is unbearable. I am using model 1, and have never had sex. I've never had anything larger than a tampon inside me.

I really need help with this. Maybe my vagina is too small....???? I'm not even sure that's possible.

A couple questions about size and position
Hi, this is my first cycle using the cup (I don't know if it matters or not, but I'm also a virgin and 22 years old).  I have a small Lunette.  I posted in this community a while back, after an unsuccessful dry run, and received lots of good advice and encouragement (one of which was to not try another dry run, just wait patiently!)  Until today everything was really good.  I still haven't quite gotten the hang of everything perfectly, but I used it for three days with no real big problems.

There was one (little?) thing I had a little bit of trouble with.  On the first day I had to be really active (which was the third day using it) I had trouble with the cup tilting to the side (always the same side), which didn't cause any leaks, but the stem was poking the wall of the vagina.  It was pretty painful sometimes.  Does anyone else have to deal with this?

The big problem came today (my fourth day).  At first, I was having trouble getting it to pop open.  I finally got it somehow, and went to class.  But I could feel it pressing harder on my insides, almost like my muscles weren't expanding enough to let it sit comfortably.  It was pretty painful.  I went to check on it, and it was riding lower than the past few days, but I couldn't get it any higher, either by pushing with my fingers or "kegeling" it.  I finally just decided to take it out and go with a pad.  Which is frustrating because even though my flow can be really light at this point in my cycle, I had hoped to use the cup until I didn't need anything anymore.  Has anyone else run into this problem?  Should I maybe buy a smaller cup for the end of my cycle?

Random question
I've had a keeper for ~5 years but only recently was able to use it. (After finally figuring out how to put it in) I did a dry run today. when I took it out there was some brownish liquid in there. I also had a few drops of blood not in the cup-bright red (not the color of period for the most part). I know this is rather graphic and I apologize. I'm wondering if anyone has any clue if that liquid was something to worry about and if I managed to break/rip my hymen? (I'm a virgin and I've had an intact hymen)

so excited
Well this isn't anything really to bother the community about but i am having serious trouble deciding what color ladycup I want. HAHA. I really like yellow, but i was wondering if it will be neon or look like the mooncup yellow, and is it just a hint?  Because here-

the colors look like they are just a hint, BARELY and the orange looks like it has a lot of pink mixed with it. So I think im leaning more towards the orange also bc it doesn't look like just a hint.  I was thinking about the pinkcup too bc it is....pink! But in that pic i can barely tell it has any pink in it.  The lilaccup looks really pretty too, but honestly i never liked purple, so anyway to the people that have ladycups how much color is really in them?  And in your opinion which color is prettiest?

And also the reason i am getting a ladycup is bc it is so soft and one of the smallest brands. But i am a virgin and I heard that a lot of people have trouble getting the ladycup out because no grippers and bc it is so squishy.  And i heard virgins have even harder times getting it out.  From your own experiences how was the first time you used your cup?

I was gonna make a poll but decided not to bc i wanna hear your own words.

1.)people say they are easier to get out
2.)they come in xsmall
3.)they have a really pretty green ^_^
but how much really, are they when it comes to shipping and stuff?

EDIT AGAIN**
well thanks everyone i ordered a meluna off of feminine wear about a week ago. i hope it arrives soon!

Decisions, decisions!
Hello! I'm looking into getting a menstrual cup, but I'm a little overwhelmed.

I first started thinking about getting a menstrual cup a year ago, but tampons were (and still are) working fine for me, so I didn't do anything about it. But now, the idea of being able to leave a cup in for 12 hours is really, REALLY appealing to me. I'm a full-time student at a local community college, and my schedule varies day-to-day. Plus, despite being on a birth control pill for 3+ years, I ALWAYS get cramps the first 1-3 days of my now 5-day cycle. They aren't mild, but aren't severe either, and as long as I take an Aleve at the first sign, they go away pretty quickly and won't return for the next 8 hours. While they don't interfere with my ability to do homework, drive, or attend class, they're still annoying, and I've read that the absorbing action of tampons may make cramps a little worse.

When I recently started thinking again, this time more seriously, about trying a cup, I thought a DivaCup (model 1) would be best, since they seem to be the easiest to purchase in the U.S. But then, I was looking at cup comparison pictures, and I came across this image (all of these are small cups). The Diva looks huge in comparison to the MeLuna. So while I haven't completely ruled out the Diva, I'd also like to consider the MeLuna, Lady Cup, and Yuuki.

Here are some facts about me/my cycle:
- I'm a 19-year-old virgin. I have never had a problem with tampons, and when my periods were heavier, I used Super Plus with no difficulty. I have had a pelvic exam before, and while it was a little uncomfortable, I wouldn't call it painful. I pretty much have no hymen to speak of (and haven't since I was 6. Monkey bar accident, lol). I can comfortably fit one finger inside my vagina and move it around. I can fit up to 3 fingers, but I feel a little irritated if I move them around too much. So basically, despite being a virgin, my vagina is fairly flexible, so it's not a requirement that I get the absolute smallest cup known to mankind, but I definitely don't need a cup made for women who have given birth.

- My flow is not exactly light, but it's definitely not heavy. My period lasts 5 days. The first 3 days, I stick to Super absorbency tampons that I change at 8-hour intervals. The last 2 days, I use Regular absorbency tampons, also changed at 8-hour intervals. With this schedule/absorbency combination, I do not have leaks.

Here is what I really want from a menstrual cup:
- 12 hour protection
- Comfort. I don't feel tampons when they're inside of me, and I don't want a cup that's any different. I don't mind if I can feel the cup briefly a couple of times in a 12 hour period, like if I've been sitting for awhile and then stand up, but I don't want to feel like it's poking or pinching.
- Reliable fit. I want to know that I can leave a cup in for 12 hours and not feel like it's progressively moving lower and lower. I need it to stay in place for the most part.
- No leaking

Ideally, I'd like a cup to be easy to insert, but I'd gladly spend a few extra seconds folding/inserting a stiffer cup if I knew the fit was more secure.

So...based on the information I've given, does anybody have any...direction they can point me in? Or any suggestions if they have or had something in common with me? I know that this will be trial-and-error to some degree, but for the sake of my wallet, and my impatience, I'd like to limit the amount of errors as much as possible. ;)

Thanks for all your help!

ETA: Thanks SO MUCH, everyone! I don't know how I missed the cup size comparison post, but thank you for pointing it out to me. Armed with this new knowledge, I feel better about making a decision. Of course, I may not get it right on the first try, but I'm definitely willing to experiment. I'll get back to you guys when I have chosen, purchased, and tried a cup. Thanks again!

Size issues
Hello everyone.  I've had my small Lunette for over a year now, and it works all right.  The only issue I have is capacity.  I know that the small Lunette actually has a high capacity compared to other small cups, and even compared to a lot of large cups, but I have pretty heavy periods on my first two days, and it tends to leak overnight and during the day if I leave it in too long.  My method so far is to just wear a backup pad, but if I could I'd love to just go with a liner and have a cup I can use for ten hours at a time.  (I've just started student teaching, and some days I don't have time to go to the bathroom at all, much less time to fiddle with a cup.)

I've looked at the size charts, and the only cups with higher capacities are the large Lunette, the large Diva, and the large Fleurcup.  I know the Diva would be too long for me, and I'm in the U.S., so I'd have some trouble getting either of the other two.  But, even assuming I could get my hands on a large Fleurcup, I don't know whether it would fit me.  I'm a 23-year-old virgin, and I've only been able to fit two fingers in maybe once, and even inserting and removing the small Lunette is kind of painful.  (Some of that may be the lines on the cup--I tried it inside out, and it felt better, but it leaked more, so I don't use it like that.)

So I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience, and how much the size makes a difference, especially for insertion and removal.  Has anyone tried a large cup and found it to be too big?  If so, how could you tell that it was too big?  Thanks!

Help Please
I have gotten to step 5 YEY.  http://community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups/1243131.html
So anyway here goes the next dilemma, I have no idea how to order online. I have done it before but that is when my parents had a paypal and a credit card. But now i have no way. I decided to get a prepaid credit card like whatever you put on it u get to spend i remember when I was in elementary school and all my friends got credit cards for their birthdays.  So yesterday I went hunting on google, here is what i found-
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070806163129AA3ooMe
So then i went to Acme and they knew what I was talking about and said that they didn't carry them and to go to the bank. So I did that.  I asked the teller how to get one, well my dad did, then she was like what? So i said a PREPAID CREDIT CARD, and she said that they only had gift cards for the bank. I thought that was the same thing, and she asked my dad if he had a bank account and he doesn't anymore.  Anyway i thought you didn't need a bank account.
I was trying not to make this thing a big deal bc i don't think it will work the first time.  Too late.

So please can anyone tell me how else to order a ladycup online. I already found Ladycup's ebay store.  I really want one now that I have gotten this far.

EDIT**
Thank you everyone, my dad called walmart today, they said that its 3 bucks to activate, and 3 bucks monthly.  Great deal if you ask me, and then they send me a new one in the mail that you can charge up with more money anytime you want.

And i still haven't decided what color I want. lol So what color is prettiest in your opinion? I seen the new Lotos color, it's pretty! i gues it is just a dark peach color.

Sorry to post again, but...
I posted on here about a year ago, asking about cups. I'm a 15 year old virgin. I've had my period about 3 years, and have always used tampons (super plus a lot of the time). I was set on a lunette, but now it seams like it's impossible to get them in the US. My next options were a small diva (cheaper, holds more), ladycup small or maybe large (because of smaller size and cool colors) or maybe a mooncup US (i would want UK, but that's not possible because i live in the US). I have a pretty heavy flow (I've gone through a super and 3 super plus tampons since i woke up around 7, it's 9 now, so i guess that's about a super plus tampon ever 3 hours and 45 minutes. IDK, just an example. I can fit 2, sometimes 3 fingers. I think my cervix is low-ish, but i have nothing to compare it to. I know i can touch it close to my period, i'm not sure about other times. Which of those cups (or other cups) would you suggest for me?

Also, I'm still a bit worried about asking my mom. I think she might freak out about it, even though she lets me use tampons, probably because it's more "hands on." I feel like she would be a bit old fashioned about it. How would you suggest approaching her about it?I know I can say things like it saves money and no known risk of TSS. I would also offer to pay for it. Does anyone know how to convince an older mother about this kind of thing?

First time user: It won't go in!
Hey everyone!
I am 17 and i tried using my diva cup for the first time tonight. I was really excited to use it, cuz i'm kinda a environmentalist and i love the idea of not throwing out any tampons or pads.
But I tried putting it in and it just wouldn't go in. it hurt SO MUCH! I am a virgin, so things don't go in there on a regular basis. But I have no problems with tampons at all.
The cup keeps popping open before it goes in, and so I just try and keep shoving it in there, but the pain is too much. even if I get it somewhere up there, I can't deal with it, I can't even move it hurts so much. Am I doing something wrong? Please don't tell me I'm to small to use the cup. I really want to use it.
I've tried to put it in probably around 15 times now, and have had no luck what so ever.
So Please any suggestions??
And I have tried relaxing my muscles

successful first attempt with the lunette
I finally got my lunette and had the opportunity to try it out today! It is a small, and wow it actually looked smaller than I had pictured it. It took me about ten minutes to insert, first I tried the origami fold and the punch -down fold, but it wouldn't open. Then I decided to try the c fold and it worked second time! However, I immediately removed it because I panicked a bit. I put it back in, again with the c fold, and I was good to go.

My thoughts:

- NO leaks at all, which was a mild problem for me with tampons. I left it in for nine hours and it was only a third full. I also didn't get that heavy feeling that I would get with a full tampon.

- I did not trim the stem. I honestly couldn't feel it and although I didn't actually use it for removal, I like having it there to make sure the cup is not working its way up out of reach. I like the lunette has a flexible stem, I think that helped.

- I also ordered a large lunette for my Mom to try, it is way firmer than the small! I am not putting that thing anywhere near me for at least 20 more years.

- About an hour after I put it in I felt sore/tender, but it went away quickly. After that I felt less sore than I normally do and I noticed that normal clear fluids were actually still present on the other side of the cup, which meant I wasn't drying up.

All in all, a good experience. I love that I can wear it safely overnight (which I will be trying tonight) and that seeing as this is a "heavy" day for me, which I realize now must be fairly light comparatively, I can go all day at school without emptying. And no leaks. I am very happy with it so far. By the way, I am a virgin, and despite this I didn't have too much trouble inserting/removing, so don't be scared off if you are a virgin.

Second time's the charm!
Okay, so I'm 16 and a virgin and I have a very heavy flow and needed an alternative to pads. I did some research and came across menstrual cups. I wanted to give it a shot. And my mom was really cool about it. She read up on it with me and was totally willing to give it a shot if I was.

First time:
O_o awful experience. I found them extremely invasive and I could FEEL it inside me. It hurt like hell to get out. I plan to be a virgin until marriage so I felt awful about learning stuff about my body and putting things in "there". I swore never to try that again.

This time:
After a month a calmed down and I tried it again. This time I did some research and I became more comfortable with the idea after being reassured that using a cup doesn't make you any less of a virgin. I actually had no idea how the your period "worked" (I had previously tried to keep myself as ignorant as possible to this kind of stuff because I was convinced that not knowing somehow made you more innocent). I had only been using pads previously, I originally thought the the entire walls of your vagina bleed. I had no idea what or where the cervix was. After I figured that out, I found it and tried again. I actually got up the courage to learn more about my body through reading a lot on this site, I've been stalking this community quite a bit actually. Before I knew how to do it right (or what works for me) I was putting the cup in there and pushing it up as far as it could possibly go and I think the cup was running into and irritating my cervix. >_< (if that's possible, I don't know, I just know I needed to wear it lower for it to work)

This time, I tried and wore it how I think you're suppose to and I love it! I can NOT even feel it anymore. Before, I would always have to use the heavy duty night time pads just for going about my day and often wreck really cute clothes just because of my heavy flow. Sleeping and sleepovers were a nightmare, I'd hardly sleep because I was so worried about leakage. I really don't think I ever have to worry about that anymore. The cup works, it doesn't leak, heck, with pain pills it doesn't even really feel like I'm on my period. So far, I'm really happy I discovered it and gave it a second chance.

I just thought I'd drop by and share a success story and possibly help out anyone who may have had my problem. I think more than anything, I just needed to become comfortable with the idea of it and needed to realize that there's nothing obscene about wearing a cup just because it deals with that part of your body.

One more thing, I would definitely like to thank this community. It helped me out a lot. I'm extremely pleased with my cup. :)

Oh and for reference, I'm using the model one Diva cup! (with the stem trimmed off) ^_^

Tiny, Tight, Virgin
Can you please give me some advice?

I am a virgin. A penis has never been in me before. And its not like I haven't tried. They just didn't fit.

Fingers! I think I've had 2 fingers at most in my comfortably. When they put 3, it was quite uncomfortable. When I do it myself, I think I have only ever been able to put 1. Most of the time, I'm afraid I'm sticking it in the wrong hole. Even when I am certain of the hole, I can't seem to get more than one up there (if I'm lucky to even get one up there).

Tampons! Never used one in my life.

Is there a cup for me? Is it possible? If I inserted a cup there, would my hymen break (if it isn't already broken)? Is there a non-chemical alternative to the cup?

Thankyou!

Is it possible to just not be cut out to use a cup?
I finally have the money to get a cup. (yay!)

So then I was thinking, well what if I just can't use it?  I was reading "The virgin's guide to cups"- which really helped by the way-but I can't get past step 3.  And if I can't get past step 3 how am I ever going to be able to use a cup?  So then I thought what if I just bought it before I get weak and buy something else I really don't need with this money lol, and maybe I will try one day and it will just work.  But what if it doesn't work and there goes 20 bucks down the drain.  I'm just looking for some advice here on whether or not I should buy the cup, have any of you ladies had a similar experience?

Which one to choose LadyCup or Lunette?
Ok so I have been interested in cups for a few months now, and I am finally ready to get one. As a college student I don't have money to throw away. I am 19 and I am a virgin. I have used tampons for about two years now and just recently switched to OB(when I bought them, I didn't know they did not have applicators but now I like them a lot better then applicator tampons). The problem is I don't know which one to get Ladycup or Lunette. My period only last 3 days the heaviest is the 2nd day ( I change super tampons about every 6-8 hours). I have been leaning towards a small LadyCup, but I don't want to get a cup that I will have to change every few hours. Any advice about which one I should choose?

Update: I decided to take the advice from some of the comments to go for a cup close to small lunettes size. I chose the small MiaCup.

...Problems with parents...
Hey. I've been lurking here for.....4 months now. I am coming out of the shadows. WHEE.

Anyways, I'm 14 years old (virgin...obviously), currently using tampons, and I really want to switch to cups. I;ve down 3 months worth of research on them and they sound so much better, as I have a paranoa of sleeping with tampons and getting TSS because I sleep like...10 hours a day (yes, I sleep way to much) and I hate the anticipation of your period coming. Like, I went to the waterpark a day before my period was supposed to start, and I was in constant fear of the water around me going red.
I think they seem really great and not nasty at all (I never found them nasty. o_o. My friendswere like...EWWW. How are they less nasty then pads? Really, I have trouble understanding why people find them nasty. With pads, you can still see the blood and you squish in it whenever you sit down, and tampons, you still see a red little stick of cottom. I've even seen a cup full of fluid. It's just red fluid and maybe a small clot.....They dont seem anymore evasive them a nonapplicator tampon [btw, ob tampns are horrible for me]).

Ok well...First problem, my mother wont let me use them. At all. Shes old fashioned and believes nothing goes in your vagina till youre married and want kids. She doesnt even approve of tampons. She just puts up with the fact that I use them. She says "You're too young for such techniques". She's also very protective of my 'innocence'. She didnt reallly even explain to me why I cant use them, just using vague replies and saying "When you're older, like maybe 20".
I tell her I want to feel more comfortable and better during my period and not wake up, go to the washroom, wash my panties, and then spot wash the sheet. She retaliates "You're not supposed to feel comfortable during your period. You should use naturel things like pads" (yah, cause having plasticy-cottony material mixed with your own menstrual fluid next to your skin is more 'naturel'). Anyways, she said to stop arguing and she'll 'do some research on the subject to decide'. I gave her some websites and pamphlets, and now she thinks I want to use it because "I saw it in an ad". -Sigh-. She also said "Did they teach you about this in school?". They didn't, but I lied and said "yes", and I think I somehow made it worse....
I would really like to get used to them before school starts in four weeks because then it would be harder to try them, what with the fact that I'm starting high school. My next cycle is in two weeks. D=
Any tips on persuading my mom? Or getting around her because I obviously cant boil a cup in the kitchen..

Ok, second problem. I was contemplating ignoring my mom and buying a cup from a local store (cant buy online, have no cards...). I live in Canada, so the only cup I can buy that way is a DivaCup. Its also very expensive  (45$ incl. tax), and me, being 13, cannot afford something like that without knowing its good. So, I think I have an average vagina length ( I heard that divacups are extremly long). I have trouble reaching my cervix, but I have rather small hands, so I think it evens itself out.  But I heard that Divas are pretty big, and I am extremly tight(barely fit two fingers in there), so...
what fold should I try first? I dont want to try a fold and have trouble getting out when I figure out the base is too wide to go in there. Like, when I first tried tampons, it hurt like hell getting it in and had to stop midway and take it out multiple times.
Any experiances with divacups? Bad and good...???

First...QUESTION~~ Are there any cons...at all about cups? Other then the 'steep learning curve' and 'more hands-on approach'. I have no problem with either. Is there anything bad at all? I've been trying to find some on the internet, because I'm one of those people that research EVERYTHING. Anything AT ALL about cups that are BAD? not healthy? wear and tear? leaching chemicals? I'm beginning to think this is like the perfect feminine hygiene product, because there seem to be no cons.

Long post, I know. I just need some help. I'm usually very independent, but my mom is being impossible right now.

I'm screwed: I was browsing some menstrual cup sites, and while on the ladycup one, i accidently bought one.....how I did it? No idea. But I acidentally ordered one, but I didnt pay for it. I'm so confused. So...I havd a panic attack because obviously I cant buy one and if it comes, it'll be really weird. ARGH. How will I pay for it? o_o
Anyways, so, I sent like....three emails to them asking them on how to cancel an order.
I paniced and I unregistered my account.
I wonder...will it still come? I dont get the payment method of "cash in advance"....what does that mean????
i am seriously panicing right now.
Really.....WHAT...to DO?
I'm not sure if anyone can help, but I just need to vent.

Just making sure.
Ok I have a question, This is the second period I've owned a diva cup for, But I'm yet to actually use it, I actually saved up for a few months to get it, (I'm 17 and I don't get an allowance, so yeah) Well I figured it would be scary and difficult at first, So I prepared myself for that, Have been reading this forum for months, And I still have a question (maybe a couple, but I don't know about those yet, just one for now) How on God's dear earth is a cup that I can fit three fingers into supposed to fit in a hole I can fit ONE finger into? How does that work? did I just order a cup that was way too big? (the cup is a Diva cup type one, y'know prechild birth, So I figured it would be ok...)

Btw, I'm 17 and still a virgin, and if it helps at all, I know my mom can't use tampons because Of a failed attempt at using them when she was like 12 because Her opening was too small or the hymen was in the way, I'm not sure if that applies here, but she has been warning me off tampons FOR that reason since before I was having my periods.... yeah.... (she actually had to have the tampon surgically removed because it was so stuck)

A cup for my little sister!
So, my mother and I were discussing periods and how you should handle them with my little sister today. Shes 12, 13 in about a month, and has had her period for a little under a year. My mom bought it up because she just did my sister's laundry and found her underware all stained from her last period. My sister got sort of angry at my mother, who won't let her use tampons, for lecturing her since she isn't giving her any other options. My mom got pretty grossed out and so my sister came to me to talk.

My mother told me not to mention the cup to my sister, because my mother is extremely closed minded on the subject of menstruation, but I explained to my sister that she really shouldn't use tampons because they aren't very good for your insides. She asked me if there were any other options aside from disposable pads and I told her there was but that mom didn't want me to tell her about it. She already knows about reusable pads and thinks they're weird... but shes 12, so thats understandable. She doesn't like the idea of carrying a bloody pad around with you until you get home and can wash it.

Now, my sister is pretty physically active. This is one of the main reasons she doesn't like pads. They make her itch, and when shes running around, she often has to stop and shift them back into place since they move around. The moving around also causes leaks. Also, she sleeps on her back, and doesn't like waking up with bloody sheets because she wasn't able to sleep on her tummy all night.

I know shes young, and I know my mother said not to tell her about cups, but I did anyway. At first she laughed at the idea, but then she started seeing the benefits of it as well. She saw the eco-friendly aspect right off the bat before I even mentioned it, and was really excited about the fact that it means she won't have to carry around pads in her purse. She was intimidated by the cup I showed her, the small Diva, but I told her that cups come in MUCH smaller sizes than that, and that one was made for older people like me. She wanted to see, so I showed her the small LadyCup and MeLuna cups in comparison to the small Diva. Like many others, she absolutely loves the MeLuna website and wants the purple model with the ball stem. I told her I'd get it for her birthday, but here is where my big problem is: I leave for college in about 3 weeks.

I'd love to move my sister over to cups. She is very excited about it, and just loves the idea. But I don't want to get it for her and then go off to school. My mother has apparently placed parental restrictions on her text messaging, and so she can't text certain words(so silly!), so we came up with a secret phrase already... if she needs help, she will text me "I need help with my cookies! Please call me!" and thats that. I'm just concerned that she'll freak out or something to that extent and that no one will be able to help her, because my mother isn't cup-friendly.

While I'd really like to wait until the XL comes out so that I can order both cups together, but I'd rather have her cup for her so that she can use it on her period and come to me in person with any questions rather than on the phone. I can't show her a better fold on the phone, and I can't demonstrate which angle might be a better way to insert, and I can't give her an encouraging hug on the phone either.

Also, heres a question from her, what size should she get? She goes through about 3 maxi pads per 24 hour day on her period, but since she moves around so much, she leaks. We were leaning towards the small of either the LadyCup or MeLuna, and are ready to order, but I'm not sure that her period won't be too heavy for these cups. I suppose this is a silver lining to having the XL out later, so that if she has to change the cup too often, I can just order her the next size up if she needs it. We looked at the charts in comparison to tampons, but she only uses pads.

Pretty much any insight into going from pads to cups would be helpful, preferably from the youngest users on the site, or those of you who have young daughters/sisters who you've given the cup to with success.

Edit: Just wanted to add that while my mother won't buy her tampons for her to use, she has used them before when a pad wasn't available. Its not that she isn't comfortable with penetration, but that my mother isn't comfortable with making it readily available to her, due to her own experiences. My mother got a tampon stuck in her after somehow pulling the string off, hence her apprehension on letting my sister, or myself, use them. She wouldn't buy them for me until I got to high school, and even then she only wanted me to use them for swimming, but since I ran track, pads were just inconvenient. Sorry if that didn't make sense the first time, just thought I'd clarify.

Also, its only for protective reasons that my mother doesn't want her to use a cup, but the things she wants to protect her from aren't really applicable in the same way that they are with tampons.

Mooncup (UK) - uncomfortably low down, and painful to remove.
I've been reading through a lot of posts, trying to find one with the same problem as i have, but so far, no luck.  By the way, sorry in advance for the length.

I'm 30, a virgin (no, this is not the problem ;0) ), and got my small size mooncup a few years back.
I used it for a few months, getting used to it, but could never get it out without a degree of discomfort, ranging to pain on particular bad goes.

I have read so many posts about removal - they talk about rocking it back and forth, and slipping it out at an angle; or folding it over inside, and pulling it out from the bottom.  I don't seem able to manage either of these properly.
Reaching it is no problem - the cup sits quite low (actually, uncomfortably low - see below).  I have cut off the whole stem, but find it too tight to grip at the bottom with finger and thumb.  I therefore have to slip my finger up inside to break the seal.  I attempt to fold it and pull it out so that the whole rim is not coming out at once (happened a few times - VERY painful!!) but tend to end up with it still feeling too big anyway.  The result tends to be my hand covered in gunk (which I don't mind so much, though not great for public toilets), the blood spilling everywhere, and worst of all, a lot of pain.  Once or twice, I know I have torn skin/tissue at the bottom of my vaginal opening (?? would this have been my hymen??), as I have felt the sensation, and seen fresh blood on my fingers.

I do worry about removal each time, but remain calm and relaxed - nothing feels particularly tense, just very tight, like there's not much room down there.  I can just about get two fingers in (without the moooncup in, and with lubricant), so wonder if size is the problem?

The other thing I've noticed - as opposed to many people whose cup seems to disappear off up inside, I find mine sits very low.  I can feel it when I sit down.  This is despite giving it a good poke once I've put it in.  It just seems to slide back down.  I'm pretty sure it's sealed, as it doesn't leak.

I would so much appreciate any advice on less painful ways to remove it.  Having read some of the posts here, I'm now also thinking maybe I should try a smaller cup, like the colour Lady Cups. Could this be a solution?

Many thanks.

I need help!
Okay so I just got the divacup yesterday night and I am having soo much trouble with it. I am only 15(almost 16) and a virgin. I was so excited to try this out since I'm a vegan and love the idea of not polluting the environment! Anyways, I am having quite a bit of leaking. It doesn't bother me that much since I can always wear a liner..except for the fact that I'm a swimmer and can't wear a liner into the pool obviously. It seems to be in the right place since I hear a pop and it seems really snug. I can't feel it at all but I still leak. The leaks mostly happen when I'm sitting or laying down. I was just wondering was going on!
Also when I try to remove it it hurts like crazy. Like and unbelievable amount of pain. I try to break the seal but maybe I'm not doing it right?
