LadyCup too small? What is Lunette and Fleurcup like?
*Update*
I bought the Lunette. It was what I was leaning towards, and with someone telling me its soft kind of like the ladycup, I'm sure I will have found the perfect cup for me, finally.

Okay, so I started out with a small divacup. It was uncomfortable, felt like I was constantly squeezing on my bladder because the rim just felt too big.

So I finally got a small green ladycup just to try out (also recently got the lotos) I loved it, until now. I literally have been emptying my cup every hour all night long, and throughout the day. Its also leaking hardcore (the cup is FULL when I take it out).

I tried the divacup again, knowing it was bigger, but it still hurts.

So I came on here to check out larger capacity cups and liked the looks of the lunette and fleurcups. They seem bigger, but the rim is still a bit smaller than the divacup.

What I want to know is what is the material like? I think I like my ladycups so much because they're so soft.

Or should I just stick with a ladycup and get the larger size?

Thank you!

LilacCup vs DivaCup
My LilacCups came in the mail today. :D I ordered from from the LadyCup eBay store about two weeks ago. They're so pretty and purple. ^_^ The small is weensy, but I think it'll be just what I need for my light days; my small Diva never filled past the 7.5mL line even when left in for 12 hours.

Because I had been searching for pictures of side-by-side size comparisons of the Diva and Ladycups and never found them (just big group shots) I decided to contribute one. :)

cup width question
Ok so when I started using cups I started with the diva which as I've said in previous posts made me extremely crampy to the point where I couldn't stand to have it in at all. So I bought a shorter cup, which as you know is the now damaged M meluna. Before receiving the meluna I was worried about the larger rim, but it seems to work just fine. Because of said stem problem with the meluna, I am thinking about getting a lunette. I don't know whether to get small or large. I like the larges rim size but dont want a gargantuan cup. Also, I'm wondering if the smaller rim of the diva somehow contributed to the immediate cramping, as well as the length. Not really sure what to do. I may try re inserting the diva to see if cramping ensues again. Anyone have any thoughts on my rim theory?

I love you ladies, you are always so helpful with my questions!

Itsy Bitsy Cups and Heavy Flows?
Okay, so I'm small... perhaps more accurately: absolutely and utterly tiny. I knew this going in so I found the smallest cup on the market to order and got the after-childbirth size. It was a Meluna Medium Ball end and the rim was too big. It was actually painful to wear... I contacted them and they sent me out a small to replace it (thank goodness!).

I tried it on my first day of this cycle and leaked pretty much constantly, no matter how often I changed. I gave up, figuring I must have been doing something wrong and tried again on day 2. Still had leaking problems which were resolved when I realized I had to change hourly. Day 3 I got up to 3 hours between, more likely 1.5 hours (does flow usually vary like that during the day?) and today I think I'm more towards 2-2.5 hours but the cycle is almost done.

I know its capacity cause the darn thing is always full or nearly full when I take it out. It does have this annoying habit of tilting to the side a bit after I move around a lot which is decreasing the capacity further. It is only 11mL to start so I'm not surprised in the slightest!

Now, the reason I went with a cup so I wouldn't have to drag my cloth pads to and from work. As long as I change often enough I am getting what I wanted with the small Meluna. However, I'd really like to not have to change so much. So I'm wondering a few things... Maybe those of you who have gotten through these issues would be able to help...

Firstly, any guesses as to if the medium meluna hurt because of the size of the rim or the lack of flexibility (it is VERY stiff compared to the small)? Or could it have just been too long (and bumping up against my cervix?) It did just barely fit in there... The pain/cramping was in my lower back and it'd resolve as soon as I removed the cup and come back approx 15 minutes after reinsertion.

Secondly, can the stems on all brands of cups be trimmed completely off? I'm going by the measurement charts on wikipedia and I know 5.2cm is like the absolute max length that will fit (because that's what the medium meluna is and even then I could have used something a bit shorter - the small meluna is just right at 4.6cm). That leaves me with the Fleurcup and Lunette... small for best length (twice the capacity of the small meluna), large for best capacity (3x the small meluna) but possibly not a great fit (per question #1). If I really want to push it I might manage the large lady cup which I've heard is very squishy but I'd only get 2x the capacity.

Help! WWYD?

Can someone please tell me if the 40X46 (Ladycup) vs. the 41x47 (Lunette) is really going to make that much of a difference!!

second cycle using cups
Hi I been lurking around this message board for over a month, but this is my first post. I am 30 years old with no children and I have an paraguard IUD. I've had my IUD for two years. I can fit two fingers comfortably in my vagina and I can just barely touch my cervix with my middle finger.

I've known about menstrual cups since 2004, but it wasn't until 3 months ago that I bought one. I only knew of the Keeper brand at that time. I ordered a mooncup by keeper size B before I found this board. I was disappointed to find out about their bad business practices.

Last cycle was the first time I used my mooncup (USA). Since I had been reading this board for a few weeks I felt pretty confident things would go smoothly and they did. I did however use tampons for my heaviest day, as I was going to a party and I didn't want to leak or empty my cup in a strange place. I trimmed half of the stem off of my mooncup (USA) to make it less pokey. I was disappointed that the anti-suctions holes are placed so low on the mooncup (USA). By my measurement the mooncup(USA) size B only holds 10 ml (up to holes).

Because the mooncup's (USA) capacity is too low for my heaviest days and because I wanted a second cup I ordered a miacup model 2 from Feminine Wear. This cycle is my first using the miacup. I had some leaking the second day. I'm pretty sure it was because I inserted it standing in the shower, so I didn't get it situated right.  I've been leak-free as long as I insert it when sitting on the toilet and aiming at my tailbone (Melissa's youtube cervix position video was quite helpful). I can go 10-12 hours on my heaviest days before I empty my miacup. This cycle I also started to use cloth liners as backup.

Both cups fit good and are comfortable. I've been using the punchdown fold for both cups. I'm really glad I wised up and bought menstrual cups and I'm also really glad I found this community.

I did however find some misinformation on the sizing charts. Both sizes of the mooncup (USA) are wider than represented on the chart and the miacup model 2 holds more than the chart says. The mooncup (USA) size B is 1 3/4 inches wide and 2 inches long (not counting stem), that converts to approx. 44 mm wide and 51 mm long. The mooncup (USA) size A is 1 7/8 inches long and 2 inches (not counting stem), that converts to approx. 47.6 mm wide and 51 mm long. The miacup model 2 holds 25 ml (up to holes) of fluid.

I just want to say thank you to everyone at this community, you have been quite helpful in my quest to properly use menstrual cups.

Looking into a cup, questions...?
Hello everyone!  I'm looking into getting a cup, and have actually spent about 2 hours poking around the forum learning all kinds of interesting things.  However, I still have a few questions that haven't been answered.  I'm sorry if these have been here before, I just haven't seen the threads!

1. I'm a plus sized woman.  Like a 22W (please don't judge).  I really want to try a cup, but sometimes reaching my vagina to insert a tampon is difficult.  It's easiest for me to do this (and reach my cervix) while squatting down.  Any other BBW have experiences (positive or negative) to help me make my decision?
2. I have a long vagina to begin with (5"6', but my gyno always has to use a long speculum!), and know that a longer cup such as the DivaCup would probably be best, but because I have an IUD, I'd like a cup with a loop as opposed to a stem.  It just seems like a loop would be easier to grasp (given my size), and would put less stress on my IUD and strings.  On a side note, I've only had the IUD for a month, and will probably wait another month or two before using a cup, to make sure I won't use it incorrectly and risk expelling the IUD.  Or maybe just until my super plus tampons run out, who knows!  Anyway, what are the brands of cups that have a loop?
(Paragard users, please feel free to tell me which cup you use, as the flow is supposed to be so much heavier and I don't want to empty all the time!  How often do you empty, and how full is the cup?)
3. WHERE do you empty your cup?  Do you flush the contents and then rinse in the sink?  This might be a silly question, but I work with 3 men, and would hate to clog the sink with my vagina's ex-contents and really gross them out.
4. Has anyone had luck buying a cup on eBay?  I notice they run about $20, is this cheaper than buying in the store?

Again, I'm sorry if these have already been answered.  I appreciate any guidance you can provide!  Thanks!

Size issues
Hello everyone.  I've had my small Lunette for over a year now, and it works all right.  The only issue I have is capacity.  I know that the small Lunette actually has a high capacity compared to other small cups, and even compared to a lot of large cups, but I have pretty heavy periods on my first two days, and it tends to leak overnight and during the day if I leave it in too long.  My method so far is to just wear a backup pad, but if I could I'd love to just go with a liner and have a cup I can use for ten hours at a time.  (I've just started student teaching, and some days I don't have time to go to the bathroom at all, much less time to fiddle with a cup.)

I've looked at the size charts, and the only cups with higher capacities are the large Lunette, the large Diva, and the large Fleurcup.  I know the Diva would be too long for me, and I'm in the U.S., so I'd have some trouble getting either of the other two.  But, even assuming I could get my hands on a large Fleurcup, I don't know whether it would fit me.  I'm a 23-year-old virgin, and I've only been able to fit two fingers in maybe once, and even inserting and removing the small Lunette is kind of painful.  (Some of that may be the lines on the cup--I tried it inside out, and it felt better, but it leaked more, so I don't use it like that.)

So I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience, and how much the size makes a difference, especially for insertion and removal.  Has anyone tried a large cup and found it to be too big?  If so, how could you tell that it was too big?  Thanks!

Got my first cup! And size question.
Alright, I got my first cup today!  (yay me!!!)  I ordered it from Feminine Wear and would have had it last week if the mailman hadn't kept missing me being home, but I finally got it, cleaned it, played around a bit with folds, and took a dry run.  I could hardly be more thrilled.

So, it's a small MeLuna in blue with the ball stem, and, for those of you who don't know, it is tiny compared other cups.  When I was researching the different brands, I settled on MeLuna because (a) I have a pretty light flow (I'm on hormonal birth control and wasn't all that heavy to begin with) and (b) I have a very slender and very sensitive vagina, though apparently my cervix isn't as low as I thought (I think I've found it...).  After I ordered and was looking around a little more, I began to doubt that I had made the right choice.  I mean, i know I'm small (at least in that dimension), but I'm not a virgin and I'm not that young (well, I'm 20, but I'm not in the teen-still-has-some-growing-to-do category).  Recieving the product dispelled my fears.  While it is small compared to other cups, it still felt like I wouldn't want too put something much wider into my vagina, and when I took it on a dry run it wasn't easy getting even one finger in with it.  I got it to seal the majority of the time, but when I tried the punch-down fold the cup refused to open, and what stirring around the rim I could do didn't help.

Are these normal newbie troubles, or am I really that small?  Right now, I can only fit two fingers in, and I've found that over the course of my period I tend to get tighter whether or not I'm using tampons (and if I'm using them the majority of the time by the end of it I can't even use those).

Edit:  Alright, on trying again with a little fussing I was able to get the punch-down to open, but so far it looks like the 7 and triangle folds are working best and easiest.

size help?
I need some help making a buying decision.
I've been using a small BlueCup for 4 months now and am considering trying out a Fleurcup or a MeLuna with a loop (loop because my cervix sits high and I've had some trouble gripping the cup, and the stem proved to be slippery too). However, I'm unsure about the size. On the heavier days I have to empty the cup every few hours and I've experienced some leakage either through the holes when it's full or when squatting etc (maybe it's too squishy?), so I'd like a cup that's more convenient for these days. On the following days my period gets much lighter and the small Bluecup works fine. I'm 25, no children, thin figure and I would consider my vagina more narrow than wide, when I still used tampons I only used light or regular, that's why I chose the small BlueCup.
I've looked at the cup size chart and it seems like even the small Fleurcup can hold a lot more than the small Ladycup, and then the MeLuna even has 3 different sizes so I'm just.. indecisive. plus, I'm unsure about insertion and removal of a larger cup, I've had trouble with the small Bluecup, I couldn't insert it without lube the first time I used it (getting more comfortable with different folds makes it possible without by now though), and removing can be a bit uncomfortable when it gets towards the pelvic floor, I'm worried that a large cup might be even worse.
I can't afford buying cup after cup until I found the perfect fit (although that thought is very tempting! they're addicting, aren't they?), my budget isn't that big so any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

MeLuna and Ladycup
Hello ladies!
I just wanted to introduce myself real quickly, and ask if you guys maybe had some tips for me. I'm almost 20, and (maybe obviously) have never given birth. I have been having sex for a couple of years, and have been on birth control from when I was about 15 'till I was 18, when I switched to the NuvaRing. I've been wanting to order a cup for a while but kept postponing it. Last week I ordered a meluna in S (with a ring instead of a stem), and a ladycup in the smaller size. I have since tried both (I'm still having my period), and both are not really perfect for me.
The MeLuna seems too small, in both width and capacity. It hasn't moved while inserted, as far as I could tell, which is a pro. But I can't wear it during the night because it leaks, simply because it's too small to last the +/- 9 hours I sleep. It's pretty easy to insert and remove, even though it sits very low. Though I think that's got nothing to do with the cup, my cervix sits very very low during my period too.
The LadyCup I just received today, so I haven't slept with it in yet. I chopped off the whole stem, because, sitting so low, it kept poking me constantly. Even now the stub pokes me a little sometimes, any way to get it a little softer? It's a lot easier to fold than the MeLuna, but also seems to shift more while inserted, it tilts a little. I'm not sure if I should be bothered by this, I'll keep wearing it until tomorrow and we'll see what happens, haha. I'm not sure if this will hold more blood during the night, since it is 5mm longer than the MeLuna but the airholes also sit a lot lower.

Anyhow, using a cup has not yet been a perfect experience for me, but also not much worse than using a tampon. I haven't had any leaks apart from the aforementioned leaking during the night. I did however have extreme cramps yesterday, the first night and day I used the MeLuna; though I don't think it has much to do with suction, since it seems to have quite little being so small. It could just be a random horrible period, haha. It's been better today, even though I also wore the MeLuna for the night and until about 3pm.
I'm thinking about ordering a MeLuna in M, for the mere €12 it's not that much of a loss if it turns out to be too big.

/blabla long story! Any things I can try to make it more comfortable / make the cup sit a little higher? I use the origami fold, the others (C and punch down) didn't seem to open that easily and this was nice and compact to insert.
12 September 2009 @ 10:23 pm
I've been a happy cup user for about a year now, and mostly have had no problems with my large Lunette, but I have 2 questions:

(1) I have been thinking of getting a back-up cup for a little while now. I live in the US, so getting a second Lunette isn't really an option at the moment, (plus I think it would be fun to get one of those cute colored ones I keep hearing about!). I was wondering if any of you wonderful ladies have any recommendations. At first I was thinking that I would want with at least as high a capacity as what I currently have (I have a very heavy flow), which I am still currently considering, but am also considering getting one that is smaller, and more suitable for use on my lighter days. But if I'm using one that is on the larger end of things and then got a smaller one, is it likely that I'd still be able to use it and be relatively leak-free? I've been looking at the MeLunas, but they just look so small in comparison to my Lunette, and according to their website, their large size isn't out yet. So if anyone who uses different cups on a regular basis has any insight as to whether size matters for a second cup, I'd much appreciate it!

(2) During activity that involves a lot of up-and down motion, I sometimes notice my cup seems to "slip down" and becomes uncomfortable. For example, on one occasion, I was in a kickboxing class and noticed this, so went to the bathroom to check my cup, thinking that the reason might be that it was full (it wasn't) so I reinserted, made sure that it was properly opened and situated, and returned to class, but almost immediately noticed the same thing starting to happen. Does anyone know why/how this might happen, assuming that it was inserted properly? It's not like this has been a really frequent occurrence, so it it isn't particularly an urgent problem, but I'd like to prevent it from happening again, if possible.

Now I have to wait :(
When my period came this month I was going to measure and see which cup would work best for me so I could have one for next cycle. Well...it never came. So now I get to wait 9 months. I have 2 questions:

1. Can I get a cup without knowing exactly how low/high my cervix sits?
2. Can you use a cup for the lochia after I give birth, I'm guessing I won't want to stick anything in there. I know I wouldn't have wanted to after I gave birth to my son.

Soon-to-be first time cup user, help please. :)
Hello :) I'm Lauren, and I've been wanting to use cups for a very long while.  I've never liked pads, and tampons aren't much better, so I'm excited to see how much better having periods can be.  Some background info on me: I'm 16 and a virgin.

I've been looking around at brands, sizes, prices, etc. and I think that I want a LadyCup.  At first it was between the LC and the Lunette, but the comfort of the LC/not being able to really feel it, is what truly appealed to me.  Now, I know that there is a steep learning curve that goes along with cups, and I've read that the LC can be harder to remove because of the soft silicone squishiness, but I'm prepared to spend some (a lot) of time practicing with this thing.  It's GOING to work, lol.  And I'm pretty well aware of my internal anatomy, I'd say.  I just don't want to get a firmer cup that's *less* comfortable than a softer cup, you know?  Because I'm sure they ALL take time to learn, not just the soft ones... :)  Optimal comfort is very important to me.

I'd appreciate if you ladies would let me know what you think about a young beginner getting the LadyCup as a first cup.  Is it feasible or just improbable that it would work?  I really am leaning toward the LadyCup, I think it's one of those "intuition" things.  Who knows.

My second question is about sizes.  The LC wesite says that a person who is my age and who is a virgin should get a small.  After reviewing the handy size charts, though, I'm not sure that's what I want.  Some of the appeal of using cups is the convenience of not having to empty it all the time, and the small LadyCup's capacity is quite small.  And my flow isn't exactly light.  It's not super duper heavy, but not light, either.  So, I was thinking that I'd want a large LC...?  My vagina is...well...slim, being young and a virgin and all, but I can get tampons...etc. in and out just fine. (TMI maybe, but...I can fit three fingers comfortably)  And when I first started looking at cups, I was considering the small Diva, which is the about the same size as a large LadyCup, right?  (In case anyone was wondering...I know that LC offers a double mix pack with both a small and a large, but I cannot afford that right now. :) )

My third question is more about the cervix.  Just out of curiosity...would that frequent suction in the vagina cause the cervix to eventually be sucked slightly downwards?  Or cause any kind of injury in there?

Thanks *a bunch* in advance!

MeLuna first impressions
I ordered a medium, blue stemless MeLuna on August 27th (Thursday) (order confirmed on August 28th) and received it in Massachusetts on September 2nd (Wednesday). Like a couple of other posters, I too got an additional cup, a small, red ball-stem, in a ziplock bag with "promot" written on it. I'm mid-cycle right now, and am not expecting my period for a couple of weeks.

Now, after having it for over a year, my older sister tried the Moon Cup US that I bought her (and is ambiguous about it, but it's progress), I was thinking it was high time I got the little sis (described by mom as older sis with attitude) who doesn't want a cup. I figured I'd order her a MeLuna if I liked mine, but now I have two already, how lovely.

Anyway, about the small MeLuna, it's really really small. Like how small I was hoping my Diva Cup would be when I ordered one. My Diva could eat the small MeLuna, stem and all if it weren't for the rim. Ditto my MoonCup UK. Ditto even the medium MeLuna. I am a virgin (who has used cups since 2006), and the MeLuna seems too small. Both MeLunas feel like toys, especially the red small one, though I think I'd feel better about them when I use 'em and their cute colors don't help. I don't think that the small Meluna would last very long for catching my blood on heavy days.

So I don't know what to do with the cups. Should I give the free cup to my little sister? Half the selling point of a cup is that you don't have to empty the thing, but she won't get to experience the glory of the hours-long goodness. I don't want her to deal with it in our high school bathrooms. They were special. Then again, a normal sized Diva cup is pretty scary. I couldn't get mine in, hurt myself, gave up, and succeeded eight months later when someone suggested lube, and I had some spare time. The rest was history. I could tell her I'll get her a "real" cup if she bothers with the MeLuna at all (already unlikely). Or should I give my sister the blue stemless medium MeLuna? If I did, I do not think I would use the red MeLuna aside from putting it in for fun on a light day.

I just don't know if I can, in good conscience, give little sis the little MeLuna, as it's not something I would trust for myself. So, small MeLuna users, is this cup tougher than it looks? Would you recommend it?

Using the "small" cup after kids?
I am reading through tags and seeing that some people who also have two kids have had issues with the 'larger' cups. I use the post-pregnancy DivaCup. I'm on my 4th cycle of using it and I'm still not pleased. I have tried every fold and it's just NOT doing it. It feels huge, even when it has properly popped open. Is it a major difference to use the smaller of the two cups? My husband tells me (I know, TMI for some but this IS the cup community, right?) that I feel no different down there. Had no tearing with either kids and both were on the smaller side (6 pounds and 7 pounds respectively).

Is it possible that a LC Large doesnt fit?
A little Background.

Im 25yr old with two children born vaginally over 8 pounds I gave a dry run w/ my LC small and was able to catch CM in the cup (was close to Ovulation) so, I would say I was successful. Last night I decided to give my Large a try after I just ordered a MeLuna. I attempted inserting the large with a punch down fold c fold and 7 fold. I feel it pop and  open I try and give it a twist and  and it jst slides out. I tried not giving it a twist and it still came out. I tried sitting on the toilet and inserting or laying down and even squatting. I am scared that Large may not be my size and I just ordered a MeLuna in Size  Medium which seems to be similar in size as the Lady cup Large.

A cup for my little sister!
So, my mother and I were discussing periods and how you should handle them with my little sister today. Shes 12, 13 in about a month, and has had her period for a little under a year. My mom bought it up because she just did my sister's laundry and found her underware all stained from her last period. My sister got sort of angry at my mother, who won't let her use tampons, for lecturing her since she isn't giving her any other options. My mom got pretty grossed out and so my sister came to me to talk.

My mother told me not to mention the cup to my sister, because my mother is extremely closed minded on the subject of menstruation, but I explained to my sister that she really shouldn't use tampons because they aren't very good for your insides. She asked me if there were any other options aside from disposable pads and I told her there was but that mom didn't want me to tell her about it. She already knows about reusable pads and thinks they're weird... but shes 12, so thats understandable. She doesn't like the idea of carrying a bloody pad around with you until you get home and can wash it.

Now, my sister is pretty physically active. This is one of the main reasons she doesn't like pads. They make her itch, and when shes running around, she often has to stop and shift them back into place since they move around. The moving around also causes leaks. Also, she sleeps on her back, and doesn't like waking up with bloody sheets because she wasn't able to sleep on her tummy all night.

I know shes young, and I know my mother said not to tell her about cups, but I did anyway. At first she laughed at the idea, but then she started seeing the benefits of it as well. She saw the eco-friendly aspect right off the bat before I even mentioned it, and was really excited about the fact that it means she won't have to carry around pads in her purse. She was intimidated by the cup I showed her, the small Diva, but I told her that cups come in MUCH smaller sizes than that, and that one was made for older people like me. She wanted to see, so I showed her the small LadyCup and MeLuna cups in comparison to the small Diva. Like many others, she absolutely loves the MeLuna website and wants the purple model with the ball stem. I told her I'd get it for her birthday, but here is where my big problem is: I leave for college in about 3 weeks.

I'd love to move my sister over to cups. She is very excited about it, and just loves the idea. But I don't want to get it for her and then go off to school. My mother has apparently placed parental restrictions on her text messaging, and so she can't text certain words(so silly!), so we came up with a secret phrase already... if she needs help, she will text me "I need help with my cookies! Please call me!" and thats that. I'm just concerned that she'll freak out or something to that extent and that no one will be able to help her, because my mother isn't cup-friendly.

While I'd really like to wait until the XL comes out so that I can order both cups together, but I'd rather have her cup for her so that she can use it on her period and come to me in person with any questions rather than on the phone. I can't show her a better fold on the phone, and I can't demonstrate which angle might be a better way to insert, and I can't give her an encouraging hug on the phone either.

Also, heres a question from her, what size should she get? She goes through about 3 maxi pads per 24 hour day on her period, but since she moves around so much, she leaks. We were leaning towards the small of either the LadyCup or MeLuna, and are ready to order, but I'm not sure that her period won't be too heavy for these cups. I suppose this is a silver lining to having the XL out later, so that if she has to change the cup too often, I can just order her the next size up if she needs it. We looked at the charts in comparison to tampons, but she only uses pads.

Pretty much any insight into going from pads to cups would be helpful, preferably from the youngest users on the site, or those of you who have young daughters/sisters who you've given the cup to with success.

Edit: Just wanted to add that while my mother won't buy her tampons for her to use, she has used them before when a pad wasn't available. Its not that she isn't comfortable with penetration, but that my mother isn't comfortable with making it readily available to her, due to her own experiences. My mother got a tampon stuck in her after somehow pulling the string off, hence her apprehension on letting my sister, or myself, use them. She wouldn't buy them for me until I got to high school, and even then she only wanted me to use them for swimming, but since I ran track, pads were just inconvenient. Sorry if that didn't make sense the first time, just thought I'd clarify.

Also, its only for protective reasons that my mother doesn't want her to use a cup, but the things she wants to protect her from aren't really applicable in the same way that they are with tampons.

new keeper: i can hear air coming out, then it leaks
this is my second question today--i'm a new cup user. i really appreciate everyone's feedback!

sometimes i hear air escaping from my vagina. it seems to happen if i get up from sitting/reclining to go pee, and when i sit on the toilet, it leaks a bit. i feel around in there, and the cup is fully open. not sure what else to do. no matter where i place it, it does it's own thing once it's in. sometimes it seems to ride low, other times it gets sucked way up in there and i really have to dig in to remove it. either way, my vagina is always very tightly gripping it, so much so that it's impossible for me to turn it once it's in. so i don't think the problem is that it's too small for me....

last night i had a really, really messy leak--woke up to blood all over at 6 AM (i posted about this earlier).

my cup is a small keeper, btw, and i've never had a baby.

Mooncup (UK) - uncomfortably low down, and painful to remove.
I've been reading through a lot of posts, trying to find one with the same problem as i have, but so far, no luck.  By the way, sorry in advance for the length.

I'm 30, a virgin (no, this is not the problem ;0) ), and got my small size mooncup a few years back.
I used it for a few months, getting used to it, but could never get it out without a degree of discomfort, ranging to pain on particular bad goes.

I have read so many posts about removal - they talk about rocking it back and forth, and slipping it out at an angle; or folding it over inside, and pulling it out from the bottom.  I don't seem able to manage either of these properly.
Reaching it is no problem - the cup sits quite low (actually, uncomfortably low - see below).  I have cut off the whole stem, but find it too tight to grip at the bottom with finger and thumb.  I therefore have to slip my finger up inside to break the seal.  I attempt to fold it and pull it out so that the whole rim is not coming out at once (happened a few times - VERY painful!!) but tend to end up with it still feeling too big anyway.  The result tends to be my hand covered in gunk (which I don't mind so much, though not great for public toilets), the blood spilling everywhere, and worst of all, a lot of pain.  Once or twice, I know I have torn skin/tissue at the bottom of my vaginal opening (?? would this have been my hymen??), as I have felt the sensation, and seen fresh blood on my fingers.

I do worry about removal each time, but remain calm and relaxed - nothing feels particularly tense, just very tight, like there's not much room down there.  I can just about get two fingers in (without the moooncup in, and with lubricant), so wonder if size is the problem?

The other thing I've noticed - as opposed to many people whose cup seems to disappear off up inside, I find mine sits very low.  I can feel it when I sit down.  This is despite giving it a good poke once I've put it in.  It just seems to slide back down.  I'm pretty sure it's sealed, as it doesn't leak.

I would so much appreciate any advice on less painful ways to remove it.  Having read some of the posts here, I'm now also thinking maybe I should try a smaller cup, like the colour Lady Cups. Could this be a solution?

Many thanks.

Weight and Choosing a Cup
I have been contemplating a menstrual cup for a while now as a reusable option for my period - cloth pads are not an option at the moment since we live in an apartment without our own washer/dryer.  My only problem is that I am a plus sized girl (hovering around 200lbs)  and I am concerned both about comfortably removing and inserting my cup AND about how my weight will affect my use.  I wear tampons comfortably, is it reasonable to assume that a good cup would be equally comfortable?

Also, do you have a recommendation for a good cup? I have tried the Instead before and DID NOT like it at all. they sell the DivaCup locally and I am going to be starting my period later on this week (I was thinking about picking one up after work tomorrow) or if there is a cup (sold in Canada preferably, whether online or in stores) that you think might be better suited. I haven't given birth yet, and I am 26.

Thanks :)
