second cycle using cups
Hi I been lurking around this message board for over a month, but this is my first post. I am 30 years old with no children and I have an paraguard IUD. I've had my IUD for two years. I can fit two fingers comfortably in my vagina and I can just barely touch my cervix with my middle finger.

I've known about menstrual cups since 2004, but it wasn't until 3 months ago that I bought one. I only knew of the Keeper brand at that time. I ordered a mooncup by keeper size B before I found this board. I was disappointed to find out about their bad business practices.

Last cycle was the first time I used my mooncup (USA). Since I had been reading this board for a few weeks I felt pretty confident things would go smoothly and they did. I did however use tampons for my heaviest day, as I was going to a party and I didn't want to leak or empty my cup in a strange place. I trimmed half of the stem off of my mooncup (USA) to make it less pokey. I was disappointed that the anti-suctions holes are placed so low on the mooncup (USA). By my measurement the mooncup(USA) size B only holds 10 ml (up to holes).

Because the mooncup's (USA) capacity is too low for my heaviest days and because I wanted a second cup I ordered a miacup model 2 from Feminine Wear. This cycle is my first using the miacup. I had some leaking the second day. I'm pretty sure it was because I inserted it standing in the shower, so I didn't get it situated right.  I've been leak-free as long as I insert it when sitting on the toilet and aiming at my tailbone (Melissa's youtube cervix position video was quite helpful). I can go 10-12 hours on my heaviest days before I empty my miacup. This cycle I also started to use cloth liners as backup.

Both cups fit good and are comfortable. I've been using the punchdown fold for both cups. I'm really glad I wised up and bought menstrual cups and I'm also really glad I found this community.

I did however find some misinformation on the sizing charts. Both sizes of the mooncup (USA) are wider than represented on the chart and the miacup model 2 holds more than the chart says. The mooncup (USA) size B is 1 3/4 inches wide and 2 inches long (not counting stem), that converts to approx. 44 mm wide and 51 mm long. The mooncup (USA) size A is 1 7/8 inches long and 2 inches (not counting stem), that converts to approx. 47.6 mm wide and 51 mm long. The miacup model 2 holds 25 ml (up to holes) of fluid.

I just want to say thank you to everyone at this community, you have been quite helpful in my quest to properly use menstrual cups.

Miacup Purchase From FeminineWear To USA?

Hey ladies, I’m just curious--  has anyone in the USA recently bought anything from FeminineWear, and about how long did it take for your item to arrive?  Also, does anyone know if they are still stocked up on Miacup?  I checked the site, but didn’t see any references to stock status.  I think I saw someone on here who represents FeminineWear, so hope they see this…

New with a question!!!
Hi! Ive been followng this community for a while, tryign to decide which cup I wanted and so forth... I decided on a Miacup and got it in today (yay!)

Now, I gave birth vaginally 9 and a half months ago so i got the model 2. Im still exclusively breastfeeding so i have yet to recieve my cycle yet... So anyways, I popped it in for a dry run, left it in awhile and took it out after about 2 hours? It was a little difficult to get out, I couldnt seem to break the suction, Id pull it down and try to pinch the bottom but it was suctioned in! I cant get my forefinger and thumb in there, I have to kind of "scissor" it with my forefinger and middle finger... Is this normal? youd think I wouldnt be so tight after giving birth... =p Anyway when I took it out, there was some discharge in it and a little blood looking stuff... strange...

ANyway, my second dry run, I just put it in and took it out, there was some blood. Not much, just some up by the rim and such... I dont think I scratched myself because I dont hurt down there or feel sore... but any clue as to what this blood is? Like I said Im NOT expectign a period and have not yet recieved one... Im quite baffled.

First Impressions and Cups in the News
Hi lovely people!

First, and probably more interestingly, I want to point out this article.  It's poorly written and has some inaccurate information in it, but at least cups are in the media!  It's interesting to watch this Alicia thing progress...it seems to get more and more strange everytime I hear something about them.

Next, I finally got to try out my Mia and I LOVE it.  I have no other cup experience to compare it to, but it was fantastic.  Honestly, I don't bleed all that much, but through my entire first cycle with it, there was no leaking.  Also, it seems to instantly relieve my craps.  The moment I put it in, they go away and as soon as I take it out they come back.  Weird.  For me, both insertion and removal were very easy (tried both the c-fold and the punch-down fold and both worked well).

For those who are following, my Miacup also has only two holes in it for some reason, I remember reading something here that implied that it's their new design.  I don't know about other people, but for me having only two holes doesn't seem to be a problem.  I'm pretty long, so I just bear down until I can reach the in-tact stem and pull until I can tilt the cup "sideways" a little to avoid the "whole rim at once" removal.  There doesn't seem to be any turbo-suction problem.

MODS: Not sure how to tag for the news article, there's no "news" or "media" tag.  I did activism, but if this is not correct, please change it.  :)  Thanks.

Best bet between Ladycup, Lunette, and Miacup?
So I finally brought up the topic of buying a menstrual cup to my mother, who did not seem very enthustiatic, to say the least.  She kept saying "well, if it's so wonderful, why haven't I heard about it before?"  Well, no matter what she says, I want to go ahead and get one.  I've narrowed my list down to small ladycup, small lunette, and small miacup.

Ladycup:
pros: small, flexible, easy to get in, seems nice and comfy, pretty, easy and non-expensive to get on eBay
cons: i'm afraid i wouldn't be able to get it out because it would be too slippery, i'd say my flow is light-medium (i change pads 3x on a heavy day) but i'm worried about the so-small capacity.

Lunette:
pros: gut instict on the best choice for me, small and pretty, seems comfortable to get in and out
cons: i live in the US, so I would get it shipped to my cousin in France and have her mail it to me.  So on top of the regular price, i would have to pay for shipping twice.

Miacup:
pros: very similar to lunette, wonderful company
cons: very expensive!  shipping on top of $45... eek.

So what are you opinions?  My gut is telling me Lunette, but I would have to jump through hoops to get it.  Does anyone know the shipping price of the Lunette or Miacup?  Do you think the price is worth it over the Ladycup?  Also, is the only difference between the Lunette and the Selene the color?  Thanks.

The MiaCup has arrived in the UK

We have just received our first MiaCup order and the stock is now available on the website. There are no shipping restrictions.
So far I have been extremely impressed with the company - they are very very professional. The packaging is fantastic and factory sealed. They sent me a free sample and a pile of leaflets. The miacup comes in a flat gift box and is inside a beautiful grey embroided bag with a very luxurious lining. It comes with a very comprehensive user manual.
I am incredibly impressed. I ordered 15 of each size but wish I had ordered more! I think that they will sell very quickly!!
The usual discount for LJ members is - LJ2009 for 5% off.

Total Cup Length
I was wondering if anyone has made a list or chart comparing the total length, including the stem, of all the cup currently available. I think this information would be helpful for those of us who are a little longer.

I have a fairly long vagina and during the last few days of my period I find it difficult to reach my Miacup to remove it. Pinching the bottom of the cup doesn't work for me, I have to get my finger over the rim to break the suction and bearing down while holding the stem helps me hold it low enough to do this.

I'm thinking of buying a second cup that is longer to make removal easier on those days. I got an IUD about six weeks ago and want to make removal as trouble free as possible to avoid disturbing it.

Just from look at photos of the different cups it appears to me that the Femmecup has a longer stem than most other cups but the cup itself is shorter than my Mia. Do you ladies think that would be a good option?

Any advice from users who have worked through a similar problem would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

MiaCup at FeminineWear UK
They have it listed in their store but not in stock yet.  Just thought I'd let everyone know since Mia is one of the harder to attain ones.

Miacup 2 holes?
Hey everyone!

For those who have been following my crazy delays with Miacup (first back order and then very slow mail service to an occupied country) my cup finally arrived!!!

Since I opened it today I've told my husband about 15 times that I can't wait for my period to start.  Ha...never thought I'd say those words.

Anyway, it came in a cute box with a BEAUTIFUL bag, as in photos posted by others.  My only concern is that the cup has only two holes, not four.  I wanted to check here first to see if any other Mia users have this, too and if it's been a problem for anyone.  I kind of don't want to bother the Miacup folks again because I've sent them a lot of emails and they are just too nice and I feel like I'm driving them crazy.  :)

Thanks in advance for your comments/stories/advice.

Later.

Possible Lunette alternative
A lot of ladies from the US have been posting lately asking for an alternative to the Lunette since it won't ship to the US as it's pending FDA approval. I hope that this doesn't come off as spammy, but I wanted to mention the Miacup since it seems to get discussed here much less than the other brands. As evidenced by this poll, out of 402 responses only 4 people owned a Miacup. Anyway, it's pretty similar to the Lunette; it has a "hoop skirt" shape, flat tab stem, and grip ridges. The main differences seem to be that it has a more pronounced rim (still far less pronounced than i.e. MCUK) and that the sillicone is slightly softer. There's a review here. According to the size chart, the small is a little larger than the small Lunette and the large is identical to a large LadyCup which is a smidge smaller than the Lunette. When I bought my large cup, I ultimately went with the Lunette Selene (which I LOVE!) because I liked the idea of a clear cup with measuring lines and I prefer the slightly smoother sides. But the Miacup would've been my second choice.

I watch this community regularly and haven't seen this mentioned since Lunette stopped shipping to the US, so I thought someone might find it helpful!

pre-IUD insertion questions
This is also posted on IUD Divas. I am taking the plunge and getting a Paragard IUD this Thursday afternoon. I have a few questions about using a menstrual cup with the IUD that I  hope you guys can help me out with. Thanks so much for your help; this community is so supportive and I appreciate it so much.

1. I hate, hate, hate pads. I'm thinking about buying some cloth ones. When they tell you not to use internal menstrual products for a while after insertion is that because of the risk of infection or expulsion or both? How long do you guys think it is reasonable to wait before using tampons or a cup? I've also heard of people using sponges right after insertion. Would that be less of a risk for some reason?

2. I've read on a poll on IUD Divas that using a cup seems to pose the same amount of risk of expelling the IUD as using tampons and that you should "be careful" when using them.
I just bought a miacup and have only used it for one period (I'm on day 5 now). It is working really well for me. I had a Keeper several years ago but it kept leaking and I gave up on it.
Which is to say that I don't have a ton of experience with cups but would like to be able to use mine with my IUD. I have fairly long vagina so removal is a little bit difficult. I have been bearing down, grasping the tab with one hand and inserting a finger of the other hand to break the suction. I seem to need to get the finger over the rim of the cup, pinching the base doesn't work. It usually comes out smooched in half and is a little messy.
I feel concerned about using the cup as I'm not experienced with it. Is the risk only from getting the strings caught or can the IUD really be pulled on from the suction of the cup? I'm also not sure what I can do to "be careful" when removing it. Should I be running my finger all the way around the rim to make sure the strings aren't caught between the vaginal wall and the cup? And if using a tampon has the same risk as the cup what can I do to prevent the strings from being caught by a tampon? Are sea sponges any safer?

I'm sorry but I still can't figure out how to put this behind a cut. The Livejournal help gave so many ways to do it and I don't know anything about html. Could somebody send me a link to the correct directions?

Thanks for your help.

Thinking of trying.
Okays so i'm 18, have been havign sex since i was 15 and only use tampons, so i'm not concerned about the whole fitting a cup in my 'giney bits, however i'm stilla c bit concerned about trying it out. I've heard they're great but i'm still a bit dubious.. I have a few questions and hope that someone can help me.
1] where can I get one, that's not online. I dont' have a credit/debit/visa so i'm stuck as to how to pay for one online.
2] Should I trust ebay sellers?
3] Honestly, how easy are they to use? Ir emember first using tampons took getting used to so i understand that this would too however people make them sound so easy that i wonder sometimes.
4] I've read that they smell. How bad is it? And how long is it before they start to smell?
5] Has anyone had problems with suction and leaking?
6] How long can they be left in for? and is there a risk of TSS with them liek with tampons?

I really would liek to try them out especially if i can leave it in and dont have to change it every 4 horus liek they suggest with tampons. sounds great for over night aswell. no more bulky pads [yuk].. Also, what's the best brand?

It was too good to be true...

I ordered a Miacup maybe two weeks ago and have anxiously watching the countdown on their website for the product to come back into stock.  Yesterday it said, "More expected today" and today it says, "More expected soon."  Argh...

Anyway, while I was there today, I noticed two changes to their ordering page.  You can no longer switch the currency to easily see approximately what you'll be paying in a currency you are more aware of.  Also, and this is the big one: they are no longer offering free worldwide shipping.  I typed in addresses in the US and Israel (where my mail to Palestine currently goes through) and both came up with prices of 50 Rand (about $5)...still not bad, but I wonder why they got rid of the free shipping while they are still in the midst of a backorder problem.

I'm still confident that Mia will be a great cup for me and I'm really happy I ordered before the shipping thing changed, but just thought you all might be interested to know about the change.

 I hope mine ships SOON!!!!

New Miacup Packaging
My Miacup finally came today! It took over 4 weeks but it was well worth the wait.

It's squishy, it's poppy and it's super comfy!  And I love the opaque purple color.  I can't wait to try it for real!

They did change the packaging, though:

Mia cup blues :(
A while back, I posted a comment about my cup (the holes were cracking on the inside) .  The company quickly gave me another one yay! But now my new cup is slightly peeling on the outside of the cup where the holes are.  I emailed them again and low and behold ofcourse, I am the only one whose has ever had this problem.  I know the mia company is new, but really,am I the only one?  So is there anyone else that ever had this problem with the mia cup?  It seems to me I can't be the only one.  I don't think I'm any harder on the dumb thing than anyone else lol.  I think I only used the new one four times.   I cleaned it with the diva wash I had laying around and boiled only once when I first got it.   I have decided to use the thing till it falls apart.

Miacup Shipping Time to US
Hi all!

I was curious to find out what other folks who have ordered the Miacup have experienced in delivery times. After weeks of exhaustive research I decided that the Mia was the one for me and placed my order on February 2nd. It shipped out on February 4th. Now it's the 27th and I still haven't received my package.

They gave me Feb 22-March 10 as my delivery window but I think I should have gotten it by now. I've ordered things from Sydney, Australia in the past and gotten the package in, at the longest, 3 weeks. Should I be worried that it's been lost in transit?

Oh, and for reference, I live in Pennsylvania.

I'm just so darned excited and yes, rather impatient, so any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Awesome Miacup Ad Video
I don't know if anyone's seen this yet, but I know I haven't seen a post about it...

I've been thinking about getting a Miacup eventually to go with my Diva, or eventually replace it. As I was surfing around their site, I came across this ad video that I thought was pretty awesome, especially if you were trying to convince someone who was interested mostly for environmental reasons. I can't embed it, but it's available at: http://www.miacup.co.za/eng/why_ad.php .

They are also letting people download it, which is nice.

Great little something to show those friends who might be interested but need something more than a pamphlet or whathaveyou :)

Thanks and discount!!
Hey everyone,

I'm been lurking around here for about a week and have finally decided to make the plunge and buy a cup.  I actually just joined LiveJournal in order to post/be an active member of this community specifically.  I want to thank everyone on here as, since I read probably more than 100 posts, I'm sure I've read one of yours!  This site is an asset to the community of cup-users and people interested in cups.  I don't think I would have been able to make the decision to make the change without this group.  So reall, thanks so much!

After doing all the research, I've decided that the Miacup is definitely the cup for me...for every reason possible.  However, I am currently living in Palestine as a political activist.  While this is a really important decision for me, both lifestyle-wish and environment-wise, I am a bit low on monetary funds right now.  I'm doing ok, but every little bit helps.  So I'm wondering if anyone has the 5% off code that comes with the Miacup that they'd be willing to share.  I promise that when mine comes, I'll pass the savings along to others in need.

Thanks again, for everything!!

miacup
Hi everyone! Awhile back I was trying to decide whether to order the miacup or the lunette.  I ended up going for the mia as the price difference between the two was just a few bucks after shipping, and the mia was calling to me. They sent along a coupon code for 5% off, which is 2P3STZL-N9FH for anyone who is intersted. Also before I ordered mine I e-mailed thier customer service department to see if they could send me any discount codes or coupons, and the woman I contacted sent me one for 5% off no problem, so for anyone thinking of ordering you might want to give it a shot.  My order was sent on December 9th and was estimated to arrive between the 27th and january12th and I recieved it on december 22nd which was a nice suprise.  They are a great company to deal with and I LOV my new cup!

Newbie on Miacup!
So, I finally received my MiaCup yesterday and it could not have had a better timing since my period had just arrived.
