Hi everyone! This is my first real post here, I've been lurking for several months now.
I just got my Lunette Selene in the mail about a week ago or so. I decided to give it a dry run. Before my Selene, I used a small OrangeCup for a few cycles and I LOVE it! I bought the small Lunette because I wanted a small cup with a higher capacity for my heavy day, just to ease my mind. I learned so much already from using the LadyCup. Apparently, I'm really not that heavy. On my heaviest day two cycles ago, I went 9 hours without emptying and I was just shocked. I get very paranoid of leaking, probably since I converted from only disposable pads to cups.
So, the dry run was unsuccessful to say the least. I used the 7 fold like I do with my OrangeCup and I put it in fine. It refused to pop open and suction no matter what I did. In fact, I think it even flipped upside down, making removal reeeeally difficult. Maybe I just need to practice a little more, or maybe I need a new fold. (I have seen Melissa's video on youtube.) I was wondering if you ladies would be able to help me out. (Just in case you need to know, I'm a 17 year old virgin) Thank you so much! =]

Lunette or Fleurcup??
I have a small Lady Cup and I like it really, but its just such a small capsity. Plus, I just need a new cup! I'm a cup addict! haha
So, I've narrowed it down to Lunette and Fleurcup!
I really like those two, but I'm not even sure why!
can you help me pick? which one do you like better, if you've used them? the differences between them? or even anything helpful!

Possible availability of Lunette Selene in the US
I haven't seen this posted here before, so in case anyone else wants to know, I emailed Lunette to ask about the possibility of getting the Selene as well as the regular (clear) Lunette in the US. (Why, yes, blue *is* my favorite color. Man, if I'd known cups came in other colors before I bought the Diva...) Anyway, this was the response I got:
Right now we only have FDA clearance to sell the clear cup in the US, but we are in the process of filing to sell the Selene as well. I estimate the time frame to be only a few months. When new things happen, we post it on our FaceBook page, Twitter and our website. You might want to keep your eye out since we will most definitely make an announcement when we can sell the Selene.
That sounds pretty promising, wouldn't you say?

Lunette vs. Yuuki
So, I've been eyeing the Lunette for quiet some time now. And having tried out the small Meluna (great for light periods) and the large Lady Cup (great for heavy periods, inside outted first though), I've figured out that I want either Yuuki or a Lunette, but I'm worried that a Yuuki is still too long. They're both narrower than the Lady Cup large but slightly wider than the small Meluna. (Too bad there isn't a cup that's 43mm wide and 47mm long and narrows towards the bottom lol)
And pros or cons for either cup? I'm in Canada so I don't have that FDA issue with the Lunette and the Selene is so pretty (but expensive!) and I like the flat tab idea, but having a solid stem is a pro for the Yuuki as well.
P.S. If you want to post to say where it's cheaper to buy either cup, that would be helpful too. ^_^ Been lurking on http://www.femininewear.co.uk/ all week lol.

Did anyone else get this E-mail?
Of course, like the letter says, there is still some more red tape to take care of, but it's on its way. I absolutely love my large Lunette, and I can't wait to get my hands on a small one! Now maybe the Fleurcup will be next!
Sorry to spam, I was just excited!!

So...I went a little nuts...
I'm so very excited about my cup and getting through my first cycle! I want to tell everyone they should be using a cup, it's blowing my mind how awesome it is!

PAIN!!!!
Hi, first post so bear with me.
I've happily used a MCUK sz 2 for quite a while now (i'm 38 no kids) and i've started getting heavier on my first couple of days, having to wake up every 3 hours to empty, now knackered at work :(. So I thought about getting another cup. After much investigating and comparing sizes to what I have at the moment I went for a Lunette Selene, couple of mm bigger but the extra capacity might buy me an extra hours kip! This is when the problems started, C fold insertion like the MC, no problem, quite a noticeable pop open but ok, after about 15 mins crikey! PAIN!! It felt like somebody had hold of both my ovaries and were giving them a good squish, unbearable. Took it out replaced it with my good old MC and all was ok, pain went away. Has anybody else suffered this problem? I was wondering if it was the stiffness with the cup, as my MC is much more flexible & softer. I didn't think it was the size so much as they were both so similar. Any help greatly appreciated

Large Lunette Selene for sale
I bought a small and large Lunette Selene a couple months ago. I thought the small Lunette's capacity would be too small for my heavy days, but it turns out that it's perfect, and I have no need for the large at all.
As such, I'm putting the large Lunette Selene up for purchasing. I haven't touched it, and it's not out of its box, except for taking pictures of it.
( Cut for pictures )
I bought it for 25 pounds, so I ask for an equivalent + shipping charges, in whichever country you live in. I am currently based in Singapore, so I would prefer mailing it to Southeast Asia or Australia, because the shipping charges would be cheaper. I accept Paypal or money order, and will mail the Lunette out on receipt of payment.
Leave a comment if you're interested!

Lunette For U.S. Customers
I was going to post this as a comment on someone else's post, but there's a lot of info, and I think this really deserves its own tags and what not. This is basically for any U.S. women who are interested in getting a Lunete, and/or want to help others get one too. I was thinking maybe we could start a tradition here where women can take it upon themselves to start a "joint order" at various points during the month. Not sure yet, but I may even end up doing this myself, eventually...

Lunette Selene in Australia
Does anyone know a website that will sell Lunette Selene cups to australia? All of the websites I have seen have said they can't ship to Australia, are out of stock for size 1 or both.

Trading small Lunette for a large Lunette or Diva
After three months of having very similar leakage issues to this entry I've decided that I most likely need a wider cup than my small Lunette Selene. Based on the sizing charts and what's readily available in the US, the DivaCup looks like my best chance of getting something locally. While I can still use my small Lunette on my light days, I'd rather see if anyone would be willing to trade their large Lunette (or possibly large Diva, see below) for mine because of the shipping difficulties of Lunette to the US. Helping someone out and saving money is always a good thing :)
Edit: Thanks to easilydistra for the trade :)

MCUK, Lunette Selene(sm), Possibly removing smells.
Hello Ladies!
I've been lurking in this community for a while, but never actually posted. Quick about me: 27, no kids, on the heavy side, low hanging cervix. Or I think it's low, it's around 1.5 inches(4.5cm) from my outer labia during my period. At any rate, I've been using cups for around 3 years, and of course, I love them! I even accidentally converted a friend just by virtue of raving about the awesomeness of my cup.
My first cup was an Mooncup UK, size "b" or the small one. I've cut the stem all the way off, but occasionally I can feel it anyways. Usually only if I'm riding my bike. I assume this is because when I'm on my bike everything gets compressed, except the cup. I also constantly had problems with even the tiniest organic applicatorless tampons poking me, too. But that didn't bother me. It was always easy to insert and remove for me, popped right open. Taking it out I would just grab the base and yank, suction be damned. I didn't care about an extra cramp from the suction. xD
But then, about 6 months ago, I got a copper IUD. This changed things, I used my cup for my first cycle after the IUD was inserted. I had tried using pads, but I just couldn't handle it. I had honestly forgotten how disgusting and uncomfortable they were. But then I quickly discovered the joys of overflowing a cup! I have a light flow compared to most of my women friends, so I never had that problem before. I was emptying a completely full MCUK every 2 hours. Not good! So I went shopping. Thanks to the lovely comparison charts on this community, I opted for a small Lunette Selene. Now I can get away with 4 hours on my heaviest day before it overflows. I can live with that. The Lunette is harder to pop open compared to the MCUK, but there seems to be less suction. At least, after the IUD I tried to be careful of the suction with my MCUK and it took a lot longer to break the suction and remove than the Lunette. I've also cut the tab about halfway off my Lunette, and I haven't had the poking problems I had with my MCUK. For some reason, though, my menstrual blood often seems to have a smell from the Lunette that I never noticed with my MCUK. I have no idea why that is, but it's not horribly offensive nor does the smell linger on the cup, so I'm not worried.
But, this brings me to this period! My period was dragging its feet and was refusing to come. I was getting red dribble for a couple days and I finally said, "enough is enough!" and bought some fresh parsley. I've found parsley tea and a parsley pessary work wonders to make a late period show. And because I *was* dribbling a little bit of blood, I didn't want to just insert the parsley and leave it, It would have leaked! So I stuffed my Lunette full of parsley and inserted it. I hardly have to fold either cup for insertion, so the fact that it was full and not easily squishable didn't bother me. The parsley stuffed cup wasn't in terribly long, maybe 4 hours. I was worried the cup hadn't sealed, being so full of fresh parsley leaves, and would leak. I also had some parsley tea that day and lo and behold the next day, the floodgates had opened! So, good. Then I had to empty my Lunette a bunch, and one time while doing so, I noticed that funk I mentioned earlier. After rinsing my cup off (I don't use soap anymore except for right at the end of my cycle before boiling) I sniffed it, to make sure the funk hadn't lingered. And I could still smell the parsley from the day before! It sure smelled nice and fresh. I was surprised. But I'm wondering if anyone has ever thought to use parsley to get rid of smells on their cup? Perhaps stuffing the cup full of fresh parsley and then boiling? Or allowing it to soak in warm water? Is that insane? I know parsley is recommended as a breath freshener after eating, but maybe it would work as a cup freshener, too.
Mods: I tried to tag it, but if I left any out or tagged incorrectly feel free to fix that. Sorry!

Lunette Selene vs. Lilaccup
So ideally I would want to get a Lunette Selene, however with the current FDA trouble and higher costs, I am not sure. My second choice is a Lilac Lady Cup which I can get for roughly $26.80 with coupons and color sales, compared to the $45 cost of the Lunette and the difficulties with the FDA. So, should I compromise gripper ridges, tab stem, and a larger capacity for the $20 difference? Also would the prices go down when the FDA drama is over and when will the drama end?

Lunette Selene on holiday
I am back from my holiday. Was expecting my period to start near the end of the holiday but trust it to be on time just this once as it started on day no2 of holiday.
it was a bit of a struggle the first day to remove it, but in the end i managed to get comfortable enough with it to be able to do it a few times a day and not stay in the bathroom for 30 min every time.
it was also a life saver when wanting to go in the hut pools and jacuzzis, and swimming was no problem. i was very impressed and forgot i was actually on me period sometimes. i did though have to resort to pads a few times when i felt like i needed to give my vagine a bit of rest from poking around in there but that was only a few times. i also started to panick the first couple of days and maybe emptied it a few times too many, but i was worried about having the cup full for too long and it maybe affecting me in some way, not sure how. but it went well and i am actually looking forward to my next period so that i can practise more :)
one question though, i have not yet felt my cervix and do not know how it sits, low or high but the stem didn't stick out until near the end of my period. it did annoy me a little bit but near the end of my period but am keeping it full lenght for now as i am not confident enough to be able to remove the cup without it.
so is it VITAL that i know how my cervix travels up or down during my period when things seemed to be working fine without me knowing?
thank u xx

Lunette Selene...Not Seamless????
My blue Lunette Selene is not seamless. I can see the line that shows where the cup is fused together. Anybody who owns a Lunette Selene have this problem? Is it how they usually are, or I have a poorly manufactured one?

My cup is **AWESOME** <----- sung by choirs of angels! :D
It goes in easy, it comes out easy & no leaks... what more could a woman want?!
I have been using the punch down method, once it's in I run a finger around the "back" where the cup was folded to make sure it's fully open, then I run a finger around the "front" to make sure my cervix is on the correct side & then Bob's your uncle... or maybe that should be Bert's your aunt! :D
The only issues I has were that the stem was poking out. Once I was sure I could remove the cup without it I cut it completely off, problem solved!
When people tell you to go with your gut feeling... it's true!! After looking at all of the information on the different cups I thought that the small Lunette sounded like the best option for me. However I'm 34 and although I've not had kids I was worried that maybe I would need the width of the larger cup, even though the added length was a bit of a worry. So I ordered them both, just in case. As it turns out my gut was right, the small cup is the perfect size, it seals to my insides no problem. :)
As the seller didn't have the Selene in the smaller size... I might have to go & find one somewhere else... blue is my favourite colour after all! :D
This does mean I have a spare Lunette Selene large size that I am willing to "pass" on to an unfortunate resident of the US who cannot buy one directly. It's still in the (somewhat squashed) packaging, I just took it out to see the colour! Anyone interested contact me & we can talk ;)
I shall now go & compose a post for my regular LJ to let all my girl friends know about cups & this community! :D
EDIT: I meant to say that my test also included riding my horse... if anything was going to cause it to leak, that would have been it... but nothing!

hello again
well my cup has arrived and i have tried ti insert it. my periods have not started but i will be on holiday when they do so i wanted to try and get used to inserting it before i go.
i have only tried about 4 times, with lubricant, and i´m having problems already. it doesn´t feel like it´s a problem getting it in, but the one i´ve got is a size two lunette selene, and it is VERY stiff. i have only tried one fold as it´s the only one i know and is the one that was described in the leaflet.
to cut a loooong story short, basically, what happens is that i get it so far, lose the grip (my hand starts to cramp up) as it is very stiff and hard to handle, i used both hands which didn´t help me at all... and it pops open before i can get it in all the way. the bottom part and the tag are still sticking out and what i get is a suctioning feeling (and sound), then i panick and give up and now i´m scared to try again.
now it may be that that is how it happens, but i´ve not got a clue.... if so, do i just carry on pushing it in?
thank u xx
UPDATE: i tried a dry run again after watching the video with different folds. i kneeled on the bathroom floor, used i tiny bit of lube, and used the punch down fold (as it was the only one i could remember at the time) and it worked perfectly! i was scared to let go of the fold as i was expecting discomfort when the cup would pop open, but decided to be brave, and all i could feel was a little sensation and my face got all hot and flustered. i didn't cut the stem straight away as i wanted to see how it went first, but when it came to it, i couldn't feel it at all so i've left it as it is.
i didn't feel anything at all with it inside, other than a little bit of pressure and a full-like feeling but that disappeared after an hour or so. i also went for a wee with it in (as some had mentioned they had problems with urinating with the cup in) but it was no different than had it not been in. so all in all, a successful insertion and comfortable 2 hours i had it in.
when it came to removing it, that was it bit of a struggle. i could feel the stem but struggled to actually get hold of the cup. i didn't want to pull just the stem and end the successful dry run with a horrible removal experience, so i persevered. i wanted to be able to nearly use the punch down technique to break the seal and then pull it from the bottom, but i have yet to master that tecnique. after a while i decided to try another position, so i stood up with one leg on the bath and started pushing a little. i finally got a hold of the bottom and managed to move one finger up alongside it to break the seal and pulled. it went fine until it got to the rim. that's the only bit that hurt really, but i'm guessing that after a few tries that problem will only be minor.
so all in all, good dry run experience, am very looking forward to my period and to able to go in the hot tub whilst on holiday.
just figured that success stories would be good to read as well as the problems :)
and a BIG thank u to all that replied, and to all that share their stories here, it is so comforting knowing that if i need any information, looking trough the tags will answer all my questions. (i am also guessing that my partner does not reeeeally want to hear more about my cup :þ)
xx
i have only tried about 4 times, with lubricant, and i´m having problems already. it doesn´t feel like it´s a problem getting it in, but the one i´ve got is a size two lunette selene, and it is VERY stiff. i have only tried one fold as it´s the only one i know and is the one that was described in the leaflet.
to cut a loooong story short, basically, what happens is that i get it so far, lose the grip (my hand starts to cramp up) as it is very stiff and hard to handle, i used both hands which didn´t help me at all... and it pops open before i can get it in all the way. the bottom part and the tag are still sticking out and what i get is a suctioning feeling (and sound), then i panick and give up and now i´m scared to try again.
now it may be that that is how it happens, but i´ve not got a clue.... if so, do i just carry on pushing it in?
thank u xx

Switching back and forth between two sizes? Also, Selene staining?
I've been using small lunette for over a year and have been very happy with it (before that I used small Mooncup UK and big Ladycup but wasn't entirely pleased with either mainy because of their stems).
I also own a large lunette and was considering switching to it for the first two days of my period when my flow is in its unfortunate stuck-pig-stage (smaller lunette tends to overflow after an hour and a half on my heaviest day - two hours if I'm lucky).
Now, is it wise/possible to use a larger size for first two days of the period and switch to the smaller size for the remaining four days? Would switching to a small one after wearing the large one for a two days make the small one leak afterwards? Or make it entirely impossible to go back to small one permanently?
Do any of you switch back and forth between cup sizes on regular basis without trouble?
I find the firmness of the big lunette somewhat uncomfortable and the removal a bit painful and wouldn't like to switch to it permanently for now.
Now to the question #2 about Lunette Selene:
The lunette I've been using over a year tends to stain a lot on the last two days of my period; and by the end of the period has a uniform light yellowish colour that even hydrogen peroxide seems to be unable to completely get rid of now (my unused large lunette is still its shiney white). Does Lunette Selene stain less perhaps? Or does the staining show on blue as well?
I've been eying it for a few days now in Leastore and I'm looking for a little push to justify buying the pretty blue thing before it's gone ;)
Thank you for in advance for any advice you can offer me!

Clobbered capacity due to low cervix - LC or Lunette?
Well, my cervix seems to really love the outside world on Day 1 of my period - it's hardly an inch or two away from my introitus. Day 1 is my heaviest, although I have a really light flow. So the cervix tends to clobber some of my MCUK's capacity(low enough as it is!)
BTW, I know I'm not prolapsing, I just happen to have a pretty short passage.
I wanted a Lunette since it has a wide base, and highr holes. But all the shipping restrictions have played spoilsport in my plans to get it shipped to the States(Why US? click here), so I'm slightly at a loss.
I'd also love a coloured cup, and since I'm going to such great lengths for a second cup, I think I can wait for a few cycles till Lunette's new coloured cup hits the market.
But could I go for a large LC, perhaps? I know there's ample room "in there" for a cup's rim to go past my cervix, and the large LC would be only 3mm longer than my MCUK. I'm more worried about the 3mm difference in width - would the LC fold on itself and cause leaks?
I have a friend coming home from the US in June, so if I opt for an LC I can ask her to bring it along. A lunette will be much harder, since I have no friends outside India AND outside USA!
I remember sandundershoes had offered to bring me a Lunette, but by the time I sorted out my finances, it was too late :(. And now the Selene Size 1s are nearly sold out. Santi Shop, the only place which has them, will charge 42EUR to get the cup to Canada. That is nearly three times the eBay price of the LC!
Any advice, folks? Or should I just wait until the Lunette has a new coloured cup, AND can ship to the US?
EDIT: Is the large LC any harder than the smaller version? Or are they equally soft?

New User with Fit Issues
I am new to menstrual cups. Last month I used a Moon Cup Keeper and it was okay. But it felt like it moved around, like it wasn't "suctioned in place" and it leaked a bit. In my enthusiasm to convert, I purchased 3 more cups (PinkCup, Lunette Selene and Diva, all size L since I'm in my 40s and have kids). I am now on the verge of my next period and have an issue with my Lunette Selene.
Here's the background: Last month, after my cycle, I went exploring to actually FIND my cervix and could barely reach it. I should have started my cycle yesterday but haven't, so I took the opportunity to measure again. Wow - it felt lower -- at about 53 - 55mm. I thought I was long down there . . . so am I long??? What is the measurement that means I'm long?
The reason I ask is because I have been wearing my pink LadyCup in anticipation of my period and it feels comfortable. But I tried my Lunette Selene today, which is basically the same width and length as the LC, and it doesn't want to stay in. It almost "expels" from me after I put it in. What is up with that???? Does it have something to do with the stiffer material? Does it have too much air in it? I tried about an hour ago, cut the stem off, gave it an extra push and then it finally stayed in place and was bearable. I guess I need to wear it for a while to see if this is a fluke. I spent mega-bucks to get this one and really want it to work!
I obviously need more time and periods before I can realistically assess which cup I like best, but I am hoping at least one of them will fit me like a dream.
So my 2 questions are:
1) Am I long or not???
2) Why does my pretty little Lunette Selene want to run away from me????
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Woohoo! Lunette Selene arrived - question about rubbing alcohol
Hello everyone,
I just got my Lunette Selene!
Before using it, I'll boil it for 4 minutes. For cleaning between cycles, I've decided to try rubbing alcohol. Does anyone know the "official" name of rubbing alcohol? is that ethanol, or what? Thanks for the info!

Which size/Lunette Selene?
Hi!
I'm not sure this posting will work but I hope so. I'm not an English native speaker but I hope you'll be able to understand me.
I'm thinking of getting a menstrual cup, so far I've never seen one in real life. I've been reading a lot about it on the internet for the last few days. I'd probably get a Lunette Selene from what I've read so far (and I live in Europe so I wouldn't have the shipping problem like the women from the US).
My problem is that I still don't know what size to get, my cervix is rather low (I can reach it easily) and my flow is not very heavy (I change a regular tampon approximately every 5-6 hours even at the first two days). From this, I would get a small cup.
However, Lunette recommends the large cup for women over 20 (I'm 25) and I read somewhere that after a pregnancy you should always opt for the larger cup and it doesn't matter whether you've had the child or not because the hormons change your vagina. ( I don't know where I found it anymore). I've never had a child but I miscarried three years ago in the 10th week of pregnancy.
I think I'd prefer a smaller cup to start with, on the other hand, I wouldn't want to spend something like 60 euros if I had to get a large one because the small one doesn't fit.
I would appreciate any tips to help me with my decision! Thank you!

Lunette Selene!
I finally got my Lunette Selene in the mail yesterday! I ordered it JUST before Leastore stopped shipping to the United States, and was very happy that I didn't wait until the next day like I was going to. I was very excited to get it, and popped it in as soon as I got it. Inserting it was a DREAM compared to the Diva, and removal was about the same. For whatever reason, probably because I modified the holes, my Diva suction is easy to break but its hard to get the damn thing to open right when going in... without having to change a thing about the holes, the Lunette worked wonderfully! The suction is stronger, but the different feel of the silicone makes it easier to pop, which is what I like.
Unfortunately, I also just got my IUD inserted today as well. I asked my gynecologist if it would be OK to use a cup with the IUD in place, and she said that its best to wait until after this period and the next, since if its going to expel that will be when it happens, but mine most likely won't because insertion was so easy. I almost can't believe I actually got it, it wasn't nearly as painful as I expected it would be! I am super excited for the next two months to happen, because I just want to be able to use the Lunette for more time than just over night. Oh, and being the silly girl I am, I left my Diva at my house with the Lunette Selene bag, but left the Diva bag in my purse, which came back to college with me, and brought the Lunette itself back as well. I just realized this... it made me giggle so I thought I'd share.
Now my only worry is remembering how to sleep with a pad on... something tells me this is going to be a messy night(or morning!). I made some cloth pads myself... I'm not so worried about bleeding through them, but more about bleeding off of them... But I guess I'll just see how it goes and hope for the best!
